As a film-maker and RUclipsr who just surpassed 100k subs, I can honestly say that weekly content is an unreasonable standard. Art was never meant to be manufactured in a warehouse, on an assemble line. It's important to make the best videos you can, not to "just make content" because you "need a video that week." It's important to take breaks, recharge the creative juices and then get back to work. 🤘
I felt this. I don’t have 100k but congratssssss!!! I recently did videos everyday and that caused me to get a burnt out and then after I recovered I made a video that made me happy and I felt better 🥰
I stumbled across something by accident that might work. Film when you want to, but only upload one or two videos a week, even if you filmed five videos that week. That way, you build up a Catalogue of videos that you can release on a regular schedule, even in weeks where you didn't film any videos.
Thank you I just want to make a better banner and record videos of games and actually do it not just for a random reason but when I want to and am ready to. Done it to much with my PS4 gaming content.

I just finished a 30-day challenge where I posted a new video every day and not only am I completely burnt out but all my analytics are on a steady downward trend for like 3 weeks even with DAILY UPLOADS!! I'm happy I finished the challenge but it's absolutely better to focus on making 1 great video and not 10 just ok videos. You can get way more views with less work focusing on 1 quality post versus the quantity approach.
#4 is a killer. Perfection paralysis. "Well if it doesn't look great, I'm not doing it". You'll never get anywhere. Source: That was me for years. Just getting over it now.
"take time to learn yourself" definitely needed that. Everyone just says just post post post, but definitely love taking my time to find new topics and understanding what i wanna make a video on. Hey thanks!!
I agree. I uploaded 2 videos and then did nothing for 4 months bc I felt overwhelmed by how much it actually required of me to know. Once I started again in January I knew I could handle weekly uploads and understood how to integrate RUclips into my life. There’s a learning curve for sure
The reality of it is... you have to be willing to post at least once a week for a very long time, most likely 6 months to a year until one of your videos gets put into the algorithm. You have to be content with seeing 50 views on a video that took you hours to make, weekly. Not many people have the motivation for that, let alone the extra time for that risk. Especially if you end up quitting before youtube puts one of your videos on peoples recommended... it will have been a huge waste of time. Thats why there HAS to be a deep down passion to create, similar to an artist that volunteer to paint or draw something nobody wont even ever see... just because they enjoy doing it. Do that, if you dont have that creative passion, please dont waste your time. Even if you do get a semi-viral/viral video you will end up quitting eventually because of that lack of creative passion/motivation.
This! I'm at that 50 views stage, but I am passionate about Classical piano. I will keep posting because my main motivation is to get my music out there for other people to enjoy.
Love this advice. I try to keep in mind, the internet is permanent, edit like it. Quality > quantity always. If your work is excellent, it will still be excellent when your channel blows up in 3 years and people start digging through your content.
Note to self : "Try not to set a schedule".. It really does get overwhelming especially when you don't get the feedback you expect 😕, after all that work.
From my experience, sometimes you double your subscribers in a week, sometimes you don't get any for months, but if you start posting something and it becomes popular, don't feel the need to keep posting it. RUclips isn't about money or fame, it's about having fun and sharing your hobbies with the world.
I have a very small channel with 1,6k subs and consistency is important. VERY IMPORTANT I upload 2 videos per week, but when I couldn't record videos for 10 days, after I came back MY VIEWS GOT 5X LOWER!
Forcing yourself to crank out content every single week can be overwhelming as a new RUclipsr!! I’ve learned to post when I’m feeling creative and actually want to film 😂
Good advice, but to be honest, if I don't push my self to do a video, I'll just get in the other side:not filming at all 🥺. I'm very nervous in front of a camera, and the only way for me,to pass that, is to upload constantly
Man, you just took a gigantic weight off my back! I will work on improving my editing and recording instead of posting weekly things done hastily! Thank you very much!
I'm glad I saw this when I did. I was of the mindset that I wanted to stockpile videos and drop them weekly in order to not "fall behind". But thanks to your advice, I'll have my first video out as soon as it's edited. Thank you!
I couldn't agree more with not having a schedule at the beginning. Everytime I want to upload weekly I get overwhelmed and just stop making videos. It's really not a good idea to have a schedule early on
Same!Video editing takes a lot of time.. I now settled for a very quick content I can post once a week. Hoping it will help me grow. I want to make the bigger Videos without pressure..
I always appreciate your honesty and "get to the point" way of saying things. You are the first person to mention ads. I tried ads on two of my videos and yeah.. they got views, but my average view duration dropped to about 0:30.. It kinda sucks since you're paying for it and you expect it to work better than any other service out there because it's a google product and you're targeting a specific audience. Thank you for also saying that youtube doesn't promote your content at the beginning, because I'm tired of click-baits who say bullshit on how to grow your channel. I've already learnt from my analytics that youtube doesn't promote it. I got only one video that suddenly got suggested and grew organically after 1 year.
As a new content creator, I agree with you. Especially since I don’t have a video editor. I am learning software and making my own thumbnails. It’s a time consuming process but I enjoy learning. I will upload when I can. I have to be realistic as well since I have a day job and other responsibilities. Appreciate you all at Senpai studios (too early? 😜)
I like to think that it's more than just the RUclips algorithm not liking me at the beginning, it is myself that have not yet found a way to properly engage new audience. Inspiring as always!
You are correct. I feel the same. Not found what my viewers what and keep them engaged. Hey 👋! Your videos answered many of my questions. Subscribed you
Now these are real and promising tips! I was really tired of hearing the same tips from other RUclipsrs, but it was refreshing and eye opening to hear you say these particular tips. Makes me enjoy the process of becoming a successful RUclips rather than burning out and giving up on my dreams.
I like how you told the audience to just focus on getting better in the beginning phases versus pumping out content that could be lacking, and then just stopping entirely all together.
Yeah at first I was really bothered by the thumbnail because Consistency is amazing... But what he's saying makes so much sense. It hit a light bulb in my head
It was nuts. For them to announce from the beginning that the project was going to end, genius. and then watching the final live stream when they ended the channel... it was almost sad, but you were prepared the whole time for it. So good.
It's good to hear this advice from such a big streamer. It's calming to know that posting constantly isn't the key to success, rather posting a good, quality video is the way to make it. Quality should always be the most important thing. Thanks for the video Harris!
I have three things to say about consistency: 1. I have experienced a fair amount of growth during periods where I didn't upload. I'm moving to a "when it gets done" model for content, meaning that a single video takes a couple weeks to come together in terms of researching, writing, recording and editing. 2. Some fairly large creators on the platform don't have anything remotely resembling an upload schedule. Creators like Philosophy Tube, Hbomberguy, and Contrapoints upload one big video every month, if not every several months, which makes sense when you consider the length, amount of research, and overall production value of their work. 3. Frequent uploads can actually hurt you due to subscribers eventually not getting notified if they miss so many uploads. There are many cases where creators pulled it back a bit and wound up seeing an increase in views.
* wildtechie* on instagram Won’t stop to amaze me He helped me boost my account from 101 subscribers to 9k subscribers I can’t stop thanking you Because this channel is the only source of my income Thank you so much
I remember hearing the same things from videogameDunkey, that a change of pace doesn't stifle his creation anymore. And it makes sense to change upload frequency, our brains calculate stuff for us like how often a day or week a video pops up you go straight for the video thats rarer because its easier to miss.
I really admire how your tips are so personal and not generic at all! sometimes I feel like a lot of these videos deliver the exact same message, Thank you for this!
Thank you for finally getting info out there that makes sense. I’m so tired of strategist chasing the clicks by giving “do this 1 thing” advice. I wish I had this video when I started and I wouldn’t have killed myself posting weekly and believing if I didn’t, I’d never be picked up. I took a 4 month hiatus and I was getting more views then ever during that time. Lesson learned to always follow what feels right to you. Some I preach but wasn’t practicing.
This is a great video for New Content Creaters! definitely Over hyping things and plans is a bad idea, Ive definitely learned that the hard way from my Podcast show. Over Hyping Streams, Videos, or Even Podcasts show plans can be a bad idea if you cant come through with the plan or late on the release date..
I'm so grateful for your musical contribution to the streaming/RUclips community. The DMCA thing, while well-intended, can be broken and daunting. There are so many instances where Twitch thinks your content is fine, but RUclips does not, or an artist with the rights to a sampled song declares they are "free-to-play" but the algorithm still detects the original sampled song, or sometimes an artist just declares verbally they're "free" but the DMCA algorithm doesn't agree. It's a giant headache, and while I don't currently and likely will never make money from either Twitch or YT, I am very appreciative of the effort you've given to provide people like me with music AND written validation of permission to be able to listen to good music and also not worry about any of the red tape.
2:22 I agree so much! I posted my first video in September and then stopped...it had no views and then on christmas it started to get a lot of views and now it has 228k views and I got 500 subs in 2 months :)
This is good advice, particularly the first point. The algorithm is important to think about but there is so much to learn from your mistakes and its nice to make these mistakes in-front of a tiny audience ;). Hopefully at some point, the quality will start to speak for itself. Make sure you enjoy doing it as a hobby, if you catch a break run with it!
thank you as always man. i always struggle with streaming for no one and i feel like it most likely wont change but i have learned to do it for me and its been much more fun and rewarding regardless of views. one day ill hit affiliate and itll be with the people that wanted to be there with me. Appreciate the tips and the stream beats
Thank you for this! Just returning to a YT channel I had stepped away from and this time trying to make it fun for me and a collaborative context of making it fun (or meaningful) for others. This helped remind me that quality is number 1 tied to my whole mission and reason for doing this. Thank you for voicing this critical message!
I stumbled on this today and thank you!! Your first point was exactly what was holding me back. Starting a cooking channel and I didn't know how I was going to learn while keeping up the pace at posting once a week. I was feeling paralyzed by it. Thank you for giving me permission to just take the time I need to get a quality video out, since I really don't know how to use my camera properly, don't know a lot about lighting, need to learn how to make thumbnails, etc. This really inspired me.
Streaming, even for a small audience has helped me as a person come out of my shell and I want to make my streams be the best I can with what I have (since I'm still jobless and have the time and basic gear) for the few people that follow me and watch. Your vids have helped so much to figure out this life. Started two months ago and only 6 more followers to go before affiliate! You rock, dude! Also streambeats is our new christmas music--bye Mariah Carey!
This man has dedicated so much time to helping people like me who’s trying to get better in RUclips. You deserve so much more credit. Thank you for all you do Harris!
I've probably watched a total of like a hundred of your RUclips and twitch advice videos trying to figure out what I want my channel to look like but I'm so glad I watched those first going into this one because I want to get such a solid game plan out before I even pull the trigger but the best advice I could have gotten was to not look for validation. Try and fail and try again. Thanks for everything you're doing for small time content creators man!
I was one of those dreamers who would watch hours upon hours of videos and "how to's" about content creation but never created a single video. Earlier this year I finally thought fuck it, let's do it. Loving every single moment of it! Thank you, Harris. For your inspiring words. x

Thanks so much for these videos, I've been working on a basic streaming setup for a few weeks and I'm finally up and running and trying to learn as much as I can. I haven't been this excited and scared in equal amounts for a while. Cheers for your dedication to quality and sharing your insights!
“I’m the only one who can issue a DMCA” Oh, good sir, you underestimate the audacity of music companies and the imprecise nature of copyright bots. I know people who’ve gotten DMCA notices for their own music. Granted, it’s easy to deal with those, but it does happen.
@@mynusopposite6674 No, like people have gotten copyright claims on their own self published music. From what I can tell it happens for two reasons. One, copyright bots are not the most accurate things in the world. So sometimes they are accidental flagging’s. Two, Music companies are not the most ethical things in the world. So sometimes they’re just flagging stuff in hopes that they’ll get money out of it because it’s easy and costs them nothing basically.
I'd still say his claim isn't really false. But, your 100% right about the false positive stuff. I can say I've used a ton of royalty-free stuff and the only ones that I haven't had issues with are his.
@@mynusopposite6674 I once got a claim on a video after it had been out for 8 yrs. The sound in question, it wasn't even a song, was a heartbeat sound. The sound was used in a song that came out 3 years AFTER my video was published. It was easy to dispute, but it was still a huge pain.
Within the first 3 minutes you’ve broken down whats been holding me back. I’ve been wanted to create beat vids for a year or so now but the idea of being a consistant uploader is daunting. Thank you for this because I thought I was doing something wrong since i was getting no traction. Turns out i just need to work on my content!!

Im trying to grow my channel but it is very hard. Thank you for the advice harris heller you inspired me to start! And I will keep learning and improving :)
Kind of disagree with the not posting weekly or on a set schedule. Or well I agree that you shouldn't do it because the youtube algorithm, but I think the biggest risks most creators have is to just go for too long without posting a video and then it just becomes a non-priority. If you are committed to posting 1 video every week and feel beholden to that, then you are more likely to make that happen and it will ensure you do some work on your videos/channel every week. But if your mindset is that you will just post whenever you feel like it, you easily fall into a rut where it goes weeks or months without doing any work on your videos. If this 100% won't happen then I assume just spending time improving your skills over holding a specific schedule is as good or better. But I think even for most people who are 100% sure this won't happen it's pretty likely to happen 😬
Im a new CC on RUclips, I'm currently uploading once a week and I don't get many views but I don't really care about numbers, I mostly do this because I want to, and if I end up big or at least with a small community that would be awesome! I'm just learning as I go! Good luck to everyone out there as well!

One of the things I regret is using a cheap webcam to record my videos in the beginning, it didnt even cross my mind at the time to use my phone which had a much better camera. The runner up was making super long videos thinking more view time.....well in the end most of the old videos are deleted
Love the advice you give of focusing on finding yourself before going weekly. I've been super worried about that lately and it makes me sooooo anxious! But I wanna post stuff I'd watch myself so I take the time to make it as good as I can...
Of all the Grow your channel type-esque videos, I'd have to say this is one of the most genuine ones to watch. It shows you care about the craft and want to help others on that journey and not just rake in views with fake promises. Thank you.
I honestly think that is the hardest thing about a RUclipsr, uploading videos you worked so hard on and it hardly gets any views. It's discouraging. I just want a good sized audience that looks forward to my new videos.
I feel that pain!! I learned something from watching the behind the scenes of the show the queens gambit. The creators were passionate about chess but realized they had to make cuts because not everyone else was but instead they built the emotion around what they loved.
Try to see which video gets the most views, then use that video as a guide to make videos that gets more views. If people viewed that video most, make that certain video your “content”. Remember to stick to at least one to two cliché’s 👌 Hope this helps!
@@ShaniaOcampo What do you mean by clichés? It's not always obvious what made your most viewed video the most popular one. I want more views but I gotta enjoy the subject matter I am making it on. If it's not something I would like I have no desire to make it.

I upload 2 videos per week, but when I couldn't record videos for 10 days, after I came back MY VIEWS GOT 5X LOWER!
Forcing yourself to crank out content every single week can be overwhelming as a new RUclipsr!! I’ve learned to post when I’m feeling creative and actually want to film 😂
Honestly very good advice, I don’t want RUclips to ever control my life
ruclips.net/video/f_je3TQ3VPE/видео.html

Good advice, but to be honest, if I don't push my self to do a video, I'll just get in the other side:not filming at all 🥺. I'm very nervous in front of a camera, and the only way for me,to pass that, is to upload constantly
Definitely agree!

I'm glad I saw this when I did. I was of the mindset that I wanted to stockpile videos and drop them weekly in order to not "fall behind". But thanks to your advice, I'll have my first video out as soon as it's edited. Thank you!
I literally gave up 2 years ago because I burnt myself out, just make the stuff you like and the viewers will come
Don't give up bud. We can do it.

More RUclips tip videos please! Love me some Twitch but YT is my main focus and I love getting advice from you!
Me too dude! I'm 100% youtube and stream occasionally on RUclips so I second your motion!
I couldn't agree more with not having a schedule at the beginning. Everytime I want to upload weekly I get overwhelmed and just stop making videos. It's really not a good idea to have a schedule early on
Yeah I feel that Because If i do it because of schedule not because I want to it gets overwhelming

I like to think that it's more than just the RUclips algorithm not liking me at the beginning, it is myself that have not yet found a way to properly engage new audience.

"I promise nothing, and deliver less."
Words to live by.
To anyone starting their channel, keep working on it, just enjoy the process and you'll get there some day!
Agreed🤟🏻🤘👍
Unus Annus reference! It was a super groundbreaking project that did some really cool stuff.
I have three things to say about consistency:

Wow nice Philip Wrighth Congratulations
I remember hearing the same things from videogameDunkey, that a change of pace doesn't stifle his creation anymore. And it makes sense to change upload frequency, our brains calculate stuff for us like how often a day or week a video pops up you go straight for the video thats rarer because its easier to miss.
I really admire how your tips are so personal and not generic at all! sometimes I feel like a lot of these videos deliver the exact same message, Thank you for this!

@@TangledFlockFarm 38 in 2 weeks is actually good! Keep it up!
I posted my first video in September and then stopped...it had no views and then on christmas it started to get a lot of views and now it has 228k views and I got 500 subs in 2 months :)
wow!

I’ve been binging “how to RUclips” videos and this was such a refreshing take on how to get started. Thanks for the tips!
Streaming, even for a small audience has helped me as a person come out of my shell and I want to make my streams be the best I can with what I have (since I'm still jobless and have the time and basic gear) for the few people that follow me and watch. “I’m the only one who can issue a DMCA”
Oh, good sir, you underestimate the audacity of music companies and the imprecise nature of copyright bots. I know people who’ve gotten DMCA notices for their own music. Granted, it’s easy to deal with those, but it does happen.
Only if they have record labels. He solely owns his music.

Great to see all the support on these videos! Good luck to everyone starting RUclips! 😁

One of the things I regret is using a cheap webcam to record my videos in the beginning, it didnt even cross my mind at the time to use my phone which had a much better camera. The runner up was making super long videos thinking more view time.....well in the end most of the old videos are deleted

So so true
I feel that pain!! I learned something from watching the behind the scenes of the show the queens gambit. The creators were passionate about chess but realized they had to make cuts because not everyone else was but instead they built the emotion around what they loved.
So true 😭😭😭

If people viewed that video most, make that certain video your “content”. Remember to stick to at least one to two cliché’s 👌
