RUclips will suppress the heck out of your video searches if they don't like your content. Why not talk about THAT? And YES they do hate truth talk that exposes corporations too much and in too powerful a manner.
My biggest fear was not having all the equipment I needed to start a channel, and rn I still don't have all that I need to put a good video out there, but don't let that stop you, just start with what you have and invest in those things you need which you will get with time. And overall be consistent and patient. Thank you Jeven(and everyone) for this video, I know it's been a while this was uploaded but it's really still helpful and encouraging.
I don't have a channel with any content right now. In fact I think all my playlists are private also. Just can't get that initial bump..I've got some awesome ideas and I love making videos. I have at least 50 already made. They have nothing to do with my idea but they would make great you tube content. Video my kitties alot and I make my own hilarious videos where I am talking to myself. I just can't get started. Just sit here talking about it.. Need someone to freaking put a size 9 up my behind. LoL
The key is to produce content you're passionate about and remain consistent, regardless of analytics. Thanks for the tips, Jeven! They were all very useful.
I think passion and consistency are very important but you do have to focus on analytics, too. I once saw a guy whose passion was reviewing comic strips. He was amazingly consistent, producing at least a couple of hundred videos ... and yet he was averaging about 20 views per video; it was actually pretty sad. I came across his channel because he was on a forum asking for tips on how to make his channel grow. Passion and consistency will only get you so far. You still need to produce quality content that appeals to viewers ... and that guy was failing.
6:41 "Every time you put a video out that's another chance for someone to find you." Such a good quote and summarizes perfectly what a starting RUclipsr should do!
Jeven I didn't watch the whole video not because it wasnt intresting, its what i need to hear however i'm not sure that if i stay to watch the whole video that'll answer my question. So if you can answer my question, here is my situation. I started my new youtube about 4 months ago. Mainly i post mashup videos consiting of anime, games, cartoons, parodies. In a sense it is a variety channel however they are all done in a similar matter. I see myself doing this for years in the future but my problem is copyright. I never got copyright claims or stikes for clips on my videos, but with songs its like when dont i get them. Starting out i went from making videos and using any song i wanted to now when i post its like every single song i use is claimed for copyright. I dont know what to do, ive looked at other videos and to no avail. When i hear music im lead to make videos, so its not something i want to let go. I want new subscribers but I just want to know if its even possible to use songs that arent from me in my videos without copyright claims, and if its possible to be able to montize them. If you can help me it would be greately appreciated. Thank you for your time
Hello Jeven. After Dunna's video I get an idea, why I get a little discomfort watching this video (this is the first time I watch you video or channel). You are sitting TOO CLOSE to camera and use wide angle lens. WAAAAY TOO CLOSE! I feel really not conformable this close, especially when you are watching to a lens (or another way of telling this - you are watching very close to viewer). Feels like you are sitting in real life as close as half of hand length (25cm or 10 inch from eyes). I think that usually in real life you would not seat that close to another person, would you? So, I am at 7:56 m:s of this video and REALLY struggles to watch it (even if it is good). Thing about it, try to feel it by yourself, because I have a feeling that you are screaming at be - that is how close you are sitting =) Maybe it ok on a smartphone (but I do not think so), but at monitor, tv set or even digital projection (which I am using and angular field of view of my 100 inch screen is close to iphone 7 plus screen at about 15cm or 6 inch from an eye), but at standard PC monitor it looks not great as well.
Sorry, I thought you were video bombing this post. I am a firm believer in adding value to my projects and when people self promote in other people uploads I call foul. Great information by the way.
Excellent collaboration gentlemen!! Been researching how to start a successful RUclips channel. Thanks for the tip about not making boring product videos just for affiliate marketing. I would have more fun creating entertaining true story reenactments. Just need to figure out how to monetize it
About Thumbnails- I was taught in art school the most important part of book jacket design was not the cover, but the spine. Back in the day when we still went to bookstores, sometimes all you saw was the spine, as the books where lined up on the shelf. Depending on what that spine looked like determined whether or not you slide that book out to look through it. Building a thumbnail is much like this I think. In that it's a very small but important way to draw viewers in.
Maybe you can help with an idea how to make thumbnails as a book spin.. I have very tiny channel.. 14 videos, I start to make the some thumbnails for my last 7 videos no make different.. I am wondering what’s wrong.. because it’s looks perfect to me 👌🏻
@@MilkyWay-vr7ku The point they're making is that the thumbnail is the spine ;) That is to say, it's a small area that you have to get people interested in your video. In this metaphor, there is no book cover, only the spine.
Ben Baron exactly. I was comparing the thumbnail to the spine of a book. It’s small. Needs to catch a watchers interest, just like a spine of a book does on a shelf, which is also small part to grab interest. You have a good thumbnail, you will have more interest.
The fear part at 8:10 and 14:00 is so true. I spent several months preparing my first video and then spent haft a year doing nothing. Why? I'm just scared. Thank you for your video Jeven and all of the creators in this video. I should start now.
It's one thing to make time to be a RUclipsr, doing 9 to 5, while being a good father to your son, but to also be a good husband to your son takes someone with only the best Sesame Street gear in town! 11:07 😉 "HIDDEN TIP", which was also the name to Dave's favorite game as a husband, make sure you "advertise your new podcast" within your intro 10:35 😉 I honestly can't wait for Dave's next podcast called "Golden Sho..." nevermind 😆 Although, I do think, on the whole, this title would strike gold! On scene, I would want Dave to be the Star 🌟 and definitely hope he decides to stream it 😉😆🚿
True for me too. I spent so many years being afraid of how I would look singing in front of a camera let alone posting publicly. I was also worried about doing things wrong. This year I just said screw it and started doing what I can with what I have, No expectations. Now its nowhere near as scary.
Another great video! We are both in our 80's and maybe the oldest-newest RUclipsrs ever! We recently created our healthy-aging advice YT channel to inspire & help people of any age. It was a real challenge for us, but thanks to you & your tips, we are growing every day! We are now over 2,000 subscribers and of course, working for more. Very grateful to you and your followers, too.
Even if here in your 80s, life experience would be my topic, so much to talk to talk about if you've had a full happy life or just content being something simple. I'm 41, thinking about a podcast or RUclips. I applaud you and your wife for making the leap without knowing how deep the water is.
I think this has held me back quite some in so many endeavors. It leads to procrastination and eventual stagnation. It should be one of the topics I cover on my channel.
I've dealt with judgment and rejection my entire life. So, when it came time to upload my videos, fear was not a factor. When you're at the bottom, you can only go up. I watched others' initial videos and saw the most basic content and it had hundreds of thousands of views. So, anything is possible.
Here are MY BEST TIPS. 1. Learn collab etiquette! Establish a relationship with someone before asking them to work together. 2. Find your "WHY?" Why are you doing YT? And when times get tough (because they will!) remind yourself of that so you can keep going. :)
I wish I saw this video 2 years ago. The procrastination part hit home for me. I got a taste for video creation 6 years ago, but I am only now setting up my equipment and studio to finally publish my first video later this month. What fueled that procrastination was a huge case of imposter syndrome. I wanted to talk about the thing I love, Architecture. But I am yet a registered architect. I overcame that mentality when I realized, hey, whether I’m registered or not I still have a passion for it. So I’m launching on the things that I’m currently passionate about, architecture, design, branding and real estate. Nov 2021 is my month. Thanks for the video, and thanks for helping future RUclipsrs.
Shinn Kawasaki dang, ten years tho, but congrats on starting! And you definitely have a point in what you said, and we also need to stay consistent and dedicated when doing this :>>
@@DeletechanUwU Thank you hahaha, still proving to be a challenge while juggling work and life. Congrats on your first 100! You have another subscriber. I've been learning that it's also okay to take a break and not be too hard on myself when other things in life take up time :) Stay well and safe! I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
I’m glad to hear so many people say they have FEAR 🥶 Also, I’m glad people say NOT to focus on being perfect! I always want everything to be so damn perfect, that feeling makes you want to wait until your 100% ready and it just prolongs your progress. I’m learning to just let go! It’s very intimidating when your just beginning and you watch these other channels that are so advanced and perfect and here you are starting out with an iPad and iMovie 🤪 but if I wait until I have the right equipment, I may never begin 🤯
i said the same thing 10 years ago. I've been on you tube that long, just waiting to get everything right. I said, i'm still not ready, but i'm ready. I pad and cell phone and ive completed 15 videos now in one month. they are not perfect, but i'm getting comfortable at every video. Good Luck in your endeavor, don't give up.
EXACTLY! I'm here with an iphone and imovie. That's it. I keep making videos and doing my best. I cringe when I upload and worry I'm being laughed at. But maybe some will take pity on me and watch just to hope I fail. Views are views LOL!
One big mistake I did was trying to churn out as much content as possible. The stress eventually made me lose all interest in the process and it's taken me almost 2 years to regain the passion for making videos again. Just like what was mentioned in the video, it's not a sprint, you need to think long-term. Another thing, especially for me as a "projects channel" is that I've been sloppy with documenting the process. It's much better to have a bit too much media to sort through when editing than too little.
Oh! The overthink it fail. Boy do I know that one. I was making short video clips on my phone and sharing them on facebook. All the while thinking that it would be great to have a RUclips channel. Then my son told me that I could upload the clips directly from my phone. My first content was single camera, single take, unedited footage. Yea. Just jump in!
I think I started my youtube channel on the same day I wrote this comment. No growth yet, but one day...... It takes effort. Commenting below with my channel, care to have a look? :)
finding the balance between eye-catching thumbnails and thumbnails that fit your vibe, or between a click bait title VS titles that still feel 'you' is the hardest part of all for me. I want to be noticed, but I also want to be authentic! Anyone else feel this same struggle?
Do both? I saw content with super click baiting titles, eye catching thumbnails and guess what: Really good, informative content behind it. It was such a breath of fresh air. You can do it! :)
This is an awesome topic! Thank you!! Edit: My biggest mistake was variety content. But I need to mention that uploading variety content helps to figure out what content you really like to produce. Dont overthink what you are doing, enjoy everything
Agreed. In the beginning, which we certainly are at we're not entirely sure where we want and what types of content we enjoy creating or how we even behave in front of the camera. We just learned how to export with Premiere haha. Make sure you enjoy the process is all I can say.
What Dave Maze said REALLY resonated with me! Both saying "no" to other obligations and trying to connect other creators on the platform. I will definitely have to work on these... amongst other things. I guess the most important thing is to just start and learn along the way. Stop worrying about failure because it is kinda inevitable, the point is to keep your mind open for the lessons you learn from them and listen to others' suggestions (if it's constructive advice). Eventually, we will get there :) Thanks for the brilliant video, it is such a great summary!
Another thing to be aware of... When you're starting out, you're likely doing everything yourself. many larger/older channels have a team for production, and a team for marketing... Be realistic with what you can actually do.
This was seriously epic stuff. Thank you! I have a couple ideas up my sleeve for channels, and yes, things that I WANT to do long term versus what I SHOULD be doing (I'm constantly trying to do that in my life - a bit hard in a society like Singapore hahaha, but another one of my lessons is to stop making excuses, so I take that back), and down the line, I'll surely hit you up for a collaboration. Thanks Jeven. You're the bomb.
Well done girl! I posted first on camera last week! Was so scary and I hate watching it back when editing but hopefully it will become more natural! Best of luck, you’ve made a start! That’s amazing! Goodnight from the u.k 🙏🏻🦋🙏🏻
@@houseofiight2880 I thought I would never go on stage, but that all changed when i was asked to perform in my daughters nutcracker ballet as the butler. When I was on stage I had to improvise here and there but I had fun and when that sank in my nerves went away
These were great tips. And coming from you and other YT’s with much more experience helps reduce beating ourselves up. As was mentioned the alone time can really get one in the wrong inner dialog and prevent creating. Growth comes through doing, not just learning…ride the bike 🚴🏻. Thanks
would have loved for your AI to have taken over the Tipps Section and talk about mistakes you`ve made in the beginning like not letting her go free etc :) but anyways, nice tips. Thanks for sharing.
I totally get what you mean by not forcing yourself to make a video every week, HOWEVER, one of my biggest issues is inconsistency. I'm proud to say that on May 30th, I will have uploaded a year's worth of weekly videos that I made over the pandemic. It wasn't always easy, but I made a promise to myself that I would try. I want to make films and videos about film and writing and that's what I've been doing.
One mistake I did in the beginning was talking too slow! It sounds that I was reading a childrens book. You have to bee more active and "speedy" than normal, otherwise it is boring. =)
Great point from Dunna about focusing too much on promoting your material on social media. I've spent WAY too much time trying to get something out of Facebook with getting very little out of it. The majority of my subscribers have come from keyword searches or the "recommended for you" algorithm.
Me! My husband has been encouraging me to get out there because there’s probably a lot of women who could relate to my journey! So this week, I’m gonna do it!
Yup. I picture it more like a mountain climb. So many obstacles and so much time dedicated to reach that summit and once you get there then there is always another mountain to climb :)
I had to just START...it'll be a video diary my children can be inspired by. That motivates me more than 'trying to get views'. If it's meant to be it will be.
@@xocoolchickxo thanks💕 go subscribe if you're into quantum jumping and law of attraction stuff. I'm making another video soon. Sending positive light energy your way, have a fantastic day💎👸🏾🎉💕
When I started producing RUclips content on my other channel, I was all over the place. I would do videos on traveling, book writing, lifting weights, and family life. I had NO clear path at ALL!!!! Even though I had all these niches, it was a challenge to think of a video to create. Now, I just focus on traveling and sharing my unique views, advice, and stories to help other passionate travelers on my second channel. It's refreshing to hear from successful RUclipsrs about the mistakes they made. It adds to my motivation to make this work and see this through. Thank you for this video!!!! By the way, I hope to find some more RUclipsrs like me where we can collab together and grow together!!!!
1) Create the content that you want to watch 2) "It is our failure to become our perceived ideal that ultimately defines us and makes us unique." - Conan O'Brien 3) Start before you even know what you're doing. We only find ourselves through mistakes and through the act of making things. 4) Limit yourself. Nothing is more terrifying than the thought of limitless possibilities. Though it seems contradictory, creativity actually increases with constraints.
_3) Start before you even know what you're doing. We only find ourselves through mistakes and through the act of making things_ addendum: Just Start... and then reupload the videos you already did on a new channel if you feel you're underperforming
Thanks Jeven, and all of you guys that responded. I appreciate folks like you putting out good advice for people like me just starting out. I found that joining some online communities and talking to people that way. It's a cool way to meet folks who do what you do, people that might have had the same issues starting out and may even have some great advice to overcome specific issues.
I find that you will go nuts watching the analytics which can influence the content. I agree to be yourself and develop your own style is so important. I don't know how many times I've been down the road thinking and saying so and so does this. Perhaps I should try this. It has merit, but people watch for your content and how you deliver it. Great video by the way. It hit home in many parts.
definitely, I've been guilty of that! Personally, these guys got some good ideas but at the same time when youtube started out it was more or less a lot of "Raw" video, and now it seems like everything is geared towards almost Cinema quality videos you need to post well not really "Need to" but that's the way it's heading, My thoughts on that are 50/50 ok ya "times Change" I get it! but what you said is correct people need to be themselves and try not to overthink and overstress this kinda stuff I suppose! my channel is what it is I'm not trying to overdo anything pretty practical and normal I try and keep it that way, there are some things I could take it up a notch on but just all takes time.
@@Canadiancarguy1987 **now it seems like everything is geared towards almost Cinema quality videos** Agree! My hope is that there is still a segment of RUclips viewers who like old-school RUclips. That is, raw, authentic, DIY, filmed-at-home videos. These are the videos that feel more like you're hanging out with a friend at their place just having a chat. The people who want super slick, high-level production shows have HBO and Netflix to watch. At least some of the RUclips audience is looking for deeper connection with relatable content that feels like real everyday life. Wishing you & your channel the best!
Damn dude, your tips were well thought out and articulated Gerald. That numbers game is so true haha I can point to reasons why my numbers aren't higher but I do appreciate all the "thank you"s that I get and when people reach out for help. It can be discouraging if you number chase but the subs you have that appreciate your work make it all worth it
Mad respect for the KIT webpage showing the gear and I appreciate the time you took writing descriptions and additional info. You a boss man, Thanks for being you. I kind of figured that was the camera you were using and now I'm 100 percent set on my next camera. Been eyeing that thing for years, just been patiently comparing over the years. This vid sold me on it.
As a youtuber that is just starting i found myself doing some of these things and will be fixing them before it is too late. I have been told my idea of my vlog is great and i chose a good platform but my execution is lagging and i think you guys helped me find what i was not seeing. Thanks and keep up the good work guys.
Thank you for these tips! Although I am still relatively new at creating content, it didn’t take long for me to realize where I was goofing up. This may be helpful to someone: What was my biggest mistake in the beginning? I was trying to move too fast! Now I am re-evaluating some things, taking more time to prepare and get educated on editing better. The channel is now in the process of a makeover 😎.
This was a great topic. Not that I have been doing RUclips all that long (the last 56 days), but I have for sure learned the power of the community, teamwork, and unity on that front. Learn not to look at the numbers and learn that not every video needs to be perfect sometime perfection will delay you. Can't wait for just the right gear, just get out there and create!
Wow Jeven! This was really helpful. Y’all dropped some gems right there and I’m definitely going to apply them to my content creation. Thanks Gerald, Dunna, Sidney, Make art and Dave Maze 🙏🏾
This was a great video. You all had some great lesson's. It was what Josh said that resonated the most with me, I've had projects that have been way to ambitious, wasted hundreds of hours, and many of them still float in a void, waiting for hundreds of hours more (at least) to complete. So that balance between what's realistic, and what's not, and understanding that with time, bigger projects will become easier, but first getting smaller projects done first, builds a lot of practice.
I like your videos but here is something else. What RUclipsrs do that irk me, not about you, but in general: 1. Choppy jump cuts 2. Music that sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks 3. "Being yourself" is always false modesty. You are never self-aware. 4. Looking like you slept in your clothes and then spent a day to make a 5 minute video 5. The Sony circle-jerk 6. The only negative opinions are the old saying that if you can't be right, be critical to make it seem like you are informed. Eg complaining about a camera made for photography not being made for vlogging. Not everything is about serving you. 7. Over lighting the talking head, esp too many gelled lights. Ok you can be considered guilty of this but you are not alone 8. No second act. People stop watching when nothing ever changes. Seen one, seen them all. Doug Demuro matured his stuff a little bit but Regular Car Reviews is a few hundred of the exact same thing. 9. Everyone looks exactly the same. If RUclipsrs switched places, it would take a few days to notice. 10. Zero risk taking
@@OneMoreVacation Instead of taking heed to the message, you're worrying about some damn jump cuts? FOH! Only on the internet, man. Hell, you can literally listen to this without viewing it and learn something from it. SMH
I feel like out of everything you said.. the pressure to always create actually reverberated most with me.. After nearly 3 years, I've learned that the audience will wait.. If i don't do 2-3 uploads a week, oh well. Life happens, spot on.
This was INCDREDIBLY helpful. My biggest takeaway is that you cannot procrastinate due to fear. I've been wanting to dive in and create a channel for 6ish months now, but the only reason I haven't has been fear. What if I'm terrible at it? What if people make fun of me? It was both reassuring and surprising that this is a common MISTAKE. I want to do it because it's fun and I the want to create keeps growing. Doing it because I want to have fun and not because I'm pressuring myself to make tons of money needs to always be at the forefront. Thank youuu!!!
Thanks man and to all the creators for the tips... this really resonated with me as I launched my channel a year ago and did absolutely zero with it. I have a young Travel, Adventure & Leisure business in South Africa and have owned my own restaurants for the last decade, so I am also a passionate cook. After SA was put on lock down I committed to creating and sharing 21 Recipes in 21 Days, focusing on cheap pantry staples, but I am a total novice when it comes to shooting and editing... like total novice... like Day 1 Recipe 1 was my 1st video ever... so to get through 21 days of straight solo shoots and editing was long yards, but I was super stoked after getting through it and totally proud of what I managed to put together, albeit totally rough and ready. Your tips on collaborating with fellow creators really hit home for me, so I will try to find and reach out to some like minded creators on a similar journey. Thanks again for the info!
We have the same passion .. and i too started a month back and on my journey to 100th video in another 10 days. My actual target was 100 Videos in 100 Days and about to accomplish the same..and wish you too All the Best
Thank you, I'm from South Africa and RUclips is still a growing platform, most people are still on Fb. I started a RUclips channel about 3 months ago and I recently started becoming fixated with the analytics. I only got one subbie today and it was sad but after watching this episode... I think I'm choosing to focus my energy on content creation and curation than the numbers. Thanks for this awesome vid. To all new RUclipsrs, best of luck to all of us...
Jeven, as a new RUclipsr I want to say “Thank You”. That was some valuable information and it’s pretty much what most successful RUclips channels echo... which means no one is going to re-invent the wheel. Follow the path that others have blazed for you. Probably the best way to stay on the road to success.
I had to re-brand our 'channel name' after 3 years and it definitely affected our sustained channel growth. In our case, it was due to a relocation. Re-branding is something nobody should go through, so I agree... choose your niche and your channel name carefully.
Thank you soo much!!! Had a lil blockage in my mind and didn't know if I should pursue my ideas for youtube or just scrap them.. Am definitely gonna pursue cause I don't wanna think about "what if I did..." thanks again man🧡
This is really helpful , my girlfriend and I just started a channel and I swear we just watch and look for views like they should be there after one video. So it’s good to know that RUclipsrs have the same fears us new youtubers do. Keep pushing new youtubers we’ll get there
I've just started after regaining my confidence to do it. I had an old account and things happened and then I stopped, I really wish I hadn't stopped, but I'm grateful that I'm back. I'll just enjoy the awesome process thanks to videos like this one.
Thanks, Jeven for compiling such a great collection of people together for such a comprehensive and inspiring video! Really appreciated so many of the great tips about focus, overcoming fear and creating schedules that are actually flexible, not set in stone. As a somewhat newer RUclips account, we are constantly reminded about how RUclips is hard and it is a marathon, not a sprint. Also, it great to be reminded to focus on making better videos rather than obsessing over how many or how little views we received.
Just started our family swimming channel.... great advice! Two very important advice that hit home for me... don’t worry about the analytics and don’t worry about what the subscribers want! Thank you!
@@thefpldude7780 what do you think is? you know long ago videos weren't monetized and YT was the best back then . now goes downhill, of course you dont believe they pay creators to...reward them right? they pay ON THEIR OWN TERMS to achieve THEIR MONETARY GOALs not to create a better patform for us,which is why became worse n worse in time Pppl flee and soon a good enough alternative will come up
So true about travel vlogs. My first few videos were travel videos. But then I stopped, because I can't afford to travel forever so I ran out of content. Also wish I would have started a seperate channel just for those travel vlogs.
Yeah, I was careful about doing travel blogs because it's really hard to travel when you don't have the funds or have a 9-5 job where you can't just take off if you want a stable income.
Thanks so much!! Doing lots of research on starting my RUclips channel. These were very helpful tips. I'm excited to get going. Been stewing the pot in my head for 2 years and now it's time to get going !
That's great to hear Kaitlyn. I've recently been considering starting one up, cause I really like the idea of getting included and involved in the community, collaborations and sharing what you enjoy doing with others to view and entertain by. But good luck with it! Also gotta agree, the tips in this video are very highlighted pointers. If anything this is motivational, and is a reminder we're all human and mistakes are a thing.
I struggle with not feeling confident on camera. I often make most of it up with editing but I’m still working on my confidence so that I can stream soon.
I am 2 weeks old to RUclips content creation. This video does help point out a few key things that has affected me personally, nice collaboration between the creators, thanks for making this video possible. It helps and appreciate it,
Thank you Jeven and all you guys who have totally encouraged me on this night as I am days away from filming, editing and uploading my very 1st video! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
9:56 Exactly what I learned from Zen Meditation. Focus on doing and ignore the results/illusions happening. Just watch but don't get distracted, seems to apply to daily lives! Thanks for this informative video! Subscribed! Like your voice and the way you speak For me, I just make videos that even I myself enjoy watching! Creations that I'm proud of
Wow, awesome tips. Specially Josh’s. It’s so true how imposter syndrome can make you feel you won’t make it to the point of not trying at all. But I guess he learnt 2 valuable lessons there: 1-life’s precious and 2-STOP IT: you’re awesome. Great content! Def subscribing :)
I highly recommend to the point of not going at it alone, to the extent of avoiding branding yourself just your name. Branding your channel as only your name will by default cripple your growth and not allow yourself to build a team Spoken from experience 😅
Thanks for this! I have started and stopped and started again. My problem is, is that I need to try and zero in and figure out which niche I am in...I am very aware that I am kind of scattered, and I need some help trying to zone in on it. We lead a crazy busy life with 7 kids and another one coming, running a very successful road cycling team, launching another non-profit cycling park, as well as a huge home remodel process...all of which I think somebody would want to see, and I want to document...but it's all over the place. Help. Thanks so much, and thanks for the great content!!
Thanks for taking the time to upload this content ! My takeaways to focus on are: 1. Work on a Thumbnail style that will visually attract. 2. Spend time on making better quality videos vs. simply try and gather audiences through other socials. 3. Collaboration with other RUclipsrs/Twitch Creators. 4. Go watch Ira Glass - The Creative Process
I just love my computer. I am seventy and just wanted to share what I learn. Next thing I know I started watching my analytics. It was good to hear not to waste the time watching statistics.
The biggest challenge for me is figuring out what my niche is. I'm a silk artist, musician, gardener, herbalist, carpenter, etc.... and my video with the most views is on heating with wood. I think I'll just keep cranking out a variety of quality videos and see what flies.
Instead of spending all your time creating videos to see what works you should do research and figure out which videos are getting views in the niche's that you're interested in. Look to see what works before creating a ton of content. That will give you a direction on where to go and then from there come up with a content strategy around the niche you're interested in.
@@JevenDovey I thought I did that. I just posted a video on "How to Grow 5 Favorite Vegetables" and spent a whole day first using Tube Buddy to find top key phrases that ranked 70 to 87. Some videos in that niche are over 1M views. But in 3 days I only have 30 views, probably from the 50 emails we sent and posting on Facebook. My video ranks 4th for "Favorite Vegetables to Grow" (TB rank 81), but about 50th for the other phrases I tried to rank for. The watch time averages 4:20 out of 7:00. I have expertise in this area, with 50 years of experience, but it appears I can't beat the competition, as there's a flood of vegetable gardening videos out there. So how do you tell if a niche is worth pursuing?
Once you find a niche it just takes testing and creating content for that niche. You'll need to do multiple videos and see how they perform. Its worth going towards that niche if these videos bring in more subscribers and watch time to your channel.
One of our (our main channel: Franci & Tad) main problems with starting was falsely believing that we had to have certain types of equipment, thus massively increasing our monetary output for equipment we actually didn't need...
I got burned out doing self help material on my other channel. Got to 2.5 k subs and now I'm starting all over. I think I'll do the occasional self help video but will focus more on things that I have a PASSION for. Uploading my first video now. Can't wait to start this journey.
Same with me I just started a channel I’m a cop that loves cars going to do car reviews upload videos of my 69 Mach 1 and just recently started uploading on my rare condition I got diagnosed with called Bell’s palsy. Check my channel out thanks !
The flavour of the video reminds me of one piece of advice I've loved ever since I heard it; "Don't ever compare yourself to others, compare yourself to yourself as you were yesterday" I just put up my first video and already I am refreshing it to see if anyone watched, going on Twitter in the hope of a retweet etc I'll take your advice on board and just focus on the vids, the rest will happen one day or it won't I guess :P Thanks Jeven :D
I put a video playlist together that goes through more mistakes you should avoid with yoru channel. Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/0bF4vcu9cZ4/видео.html

Biggest mistake is procrastinating and making things a bigger deal than they are =) Just go with the flow and create a lot! :D
Yup just go for it.
LoL
@@rumyfrogg 🥾 Whatever you wanna do you can here is the boot. LOL.

That's a good point! I've paid my dues!

+Draffyre hi 😀😀😀
Thing about it, try to feel it by yourself, because I have a feeling that you are screaming at be - that is how close you are sitting =)
Maybe it ok on a smartphone (but I do not think so), but at monitor, tv set or even digital projection (which I am using and angular field of view of my 100 inch screen is close to iphone 7 plus screen at about 15cm or 6 inch from an eye), but at standard PC monitor it looks not great as well.
That's a very nice perspective on that..but im just curious what could be the spine of the thumbnail if there is..I would appreciate if you replied😊

True for me too. I spent so many years being afraid of how I would look singing in front of a camera let alone posting publicly. I was also worried about doing things wrong. This year I just said screw it and started doing what I can with what I have, No expectations. Now its nowhere near as scary.

Spanish Fly Fishing done ✅
I think this has held me back quite some in so many endeavors. It leads to procrastination and eventual stagnation. It should be one of the topics I cover on my channel.
Spanish Fly Fishing, not me, I don’t have time.

thank you! ill take this into consideration! trying to grow my channel! :D

Well said.

Eventually, we will get there :)
Thanks for the brilliant video, it is such a great summary!
Another thing to be aware of... When you're starting out, you're likely doing everything yourself. many larger/older channels have a team for production, and a team for marketing...

Agree! My hope is that there is still a segment of RUclips viewers who like old-school RUclips. That is, raw, authentic, DIY, filmed-at-home videos. These are the videos that feel more like you're hanging out with a friend at their place just having a chat. It can be discouraging if you number chase but the subs you have that appreciate your work make it all worth it
And we're undone!
I love your tips! Supports your channel too 👌👏👍✔️ thank you for giving such inspiration to my channel too
Mad respect for the KIT webpage showing the gear and I appreciate the time you took writing descriptions and additional info. You a boss man, Thanks for being you. I kind of figured that was the camera you were using and now I'm 100 percent set on my next camera. Been eyeing that thing for years, just been patiently comparing over the years. This vid sold me on it.
To whoever’s reading this 👀
I hope that you achieve your dreams! 👍🏼

As a youtuber that is just starting i found myself doing some of these things and will be fixing them before it is too late. I have been told my idea of my vlog is great and i chose a good platform but my execution is lagging and i think you guys helped me find what i was not seeing. Thanks and keep up the good work guys.
HAVE FUN, Make content you'd watch yourself.
I totally agree with you! 😍
Awesome tip too😊
Too true 👍
That's important
Yes i would say the same.
I think it will always come back to doing what YOU like to do ,being yourself and staying focused on where YOU want to go with your channel.
Great, just started Jan 2020, needed to hear you and your friends... Marvelous!
Just started 2 days ago
Me too.
Best of luck man!
Gud luck... I'm still learning...for me It's ez to edit video... The harder part to communicate with audience...
"Experience makes you better."
👍
I love seeing the community work together like this! Excellent job fellas, thank you for the pointers!
“Don’t be afraid of making mistakes”. I’m just starting out. I needed that! Thank you! 💖
Nobody forgives you your mistakes.
Same here! Just started this month, and in my first video I was so nervous, barely could talk 😅
@@roxi_lovesmakeup Lol, yes! Checking out your channel,!! :)
@@roxi_lovesmakeup Ditto
@@roxi_lovesmakeupYes me too
This was a great video.
What RUclipsrs do that irk me, not about you, but in general:
1. Choppy jump cuts
2. Music that sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks
3. "Being yourself" is always false modesty. You are never self-aware.
4. Looking like you slept in your clothes and then spent a day to make a 5 minute video
5. The Sony circle-jerk
6. The only negative opinions are the old saying that if you can't be right, be critical to make it seem like you are informed. Eg complaining about a camera made for photography not being made for vlogging. Not everything is about serving you.
7. Over lighting the talking head, esp too many gelled lights. Ok you can be considered guilty of this but you are not alone
Mistake #1: talking too much at the beginning of your video before getting into the content. Not naming any names, but....
Jump cuts jump cuts juju cuts jump cccutts
Stopped watching the video on 01:30 for that reason... No offense..Just sayin
lol
@@OneMoreVacation Instead of taking heed to the message, you're worrying about some damn jump cuts? FOH! Only on the internet, man. Hell, you can literally listen to this without viewing it and learn something from it. SMH
Dont bore us, get the the chorus...
@@SnehasKitchenRecipes thats great so lets help each other grow! I have subscribed to your channel and your recipes look seriously delicious
You can get subscribers outside SouthAfrica, just keep promoting it.
Thank you!
You got this!
Me too,,,hehe
Brand new to this channel. Great points addressed. Many ideas picked up. Thanks Jovey!
This is a really amazing video. Thank you for the knowledge. I had to go give a sub to a few of the guys on your list. TY
Big fan bro ! 🙌
I think the biggest mistake people make is that they start a RUclips channel for the wrong reasons!
what? clout?
I started for money
What would you say is the right reason ?
lol precisely
@@thefpldude7780 what do you think is?
you know long ago videos weren't monetized and YT was the best back then
. now goes downhill,
of course you dont believe they pay creators to...reward them right? they pay ON THEIR OWN TERMS to achieve THEIR MONETARY GOALs not to create a better patform for us,which is why became worse n worse in time Pppl flee and soon a good enough alternative will come up
It's not only informative, but also very motivational. Thanks so much for producing such a great content.
I had the same problem, but I think I'm going to go in another direction with my niche and making it easier to make videos
Thanks so much!! Doing lots of research on starting my RUclips channel. These were very helpful tips. I'm excited to get going. Been stewing the pot in my head for 2 years and now it's time to get going !
2020 is the year to make it happen!
Kaitlyn, I wish you well, go for it. is fun!! I just started a few days ago. I love what I do and want to share.
All the Best Hoover.. there is no best time than this.. dive into the water if you want to learn swimming and don't sit on banks
I struggle with not feeling confident on camera. I often make most of it up with editing but I’m still working on my confidence so that I can stream soon.
An ultra-important statement you give near the start - "Don't be afraid to make mistakes".
Subscribed! Like your voice and the way you speak
For me, I just make videos that even I myself enjoy watching! Creations that I'm proud of
Thanks for the tips mate. Really enjoyed your drone videos too
Karl Rock how did u do it 😭😭
mistakes are important, but I think if you are smart enough you'll try yo learn from other people's mistakes. Great content !!
Yeah it’s important to make mistakes but always good to start from a place of knowledge so you don’t make the same mistakes we did
Vivien Pap so true
Wow, awesome tips. Specially Josh’s. It’s so true how imposter syndrome can make you feel you won’t make it to the point of not trying at all. But I guess he learnt 2 valuable lessons there: 1-life’s precious and 2-STOP IT: you’re awesome.
Great content! Def subscribing :)
I highly recommend to the point of not going at it alone, to the extent of avoiding branding yourself just your name. Branding your channel as only your name will by default cripple your growth and not allow yourself to build a team
Spoken from experience 😅
Love the collaboration.. glad to hear different tip perspective from different RUclipsrs. Enjoyed this one. Thanks love
A youtube channel on how to build your dream business with a large family...scheduling...living life...etc...
Such an awesome vid!! Keep up the grind everyone :)
Thanks for taking the time to upload this content !
My takeaways to focus on are:
@@JevenDovey I'll work on that. Thanks for the personal response!
Funny to hear each of these guys' psychological issues expressed through a conversation about RUclips videos.
Life is wild.
True
I'm a procrastinator my self , a perfectionist , workaholic and afraid of failure .
Which feeds my depression .
One of our (our main channel: Franci & Tad) main problems with starting was falsely believing that we had to have certain types of equipment, thus massively increasing our monetary output for equipment we actually didn't need...
Biggest mistake: Putting off starting your channel and making your own mistakes to learn from :)
100%!
I got burned out doing self help material on my other channel. Got to 2.5 k subs and now I'm starting all over. I think I'll do the occasional self help video but will focus more on things that I have a PASSION for. Uploading my first video now. Can't wait to start this journey.
Yay go you, have fun
Good luck!
Same with me I just started a channel I’m a cop that loves cars going to do car reviews upload videos of my 69 Mach 1 and just recently started uploading on my rare condition I got diagnosed with called Bell’s palsy. Check my channel out thanks !
Spen why did u gave up on the other channel? if it's okay to ask!
The flavour of the video reminds me of one piece of advice I've loved ever since I heard it;
"Don't ever compare yourself to others, compare yourself to yourself as you were yesterday"
I just put up my first video and already I am refreshing it to see if anyone watched, going on Twitter in the hope of a retweet etc
I'll take your advice on board and just focus on the vids, the rest will happen one day or it won't I guess :P
Thanks Jeven :D
