    Iv cleaned a heat exchanger before with a soft brush it caused a pinhole leak the debris that builds on the heat exchanger is not just surface it’s also corroding in to the heat exchanger also have be called out to combi boilers losing pressure can be difficult to find at first as it looks like the are no leaks inside the boiler as the burner is drying up the water

    Nice job, not many people will decide put extra money for new seal and checking heat exchanger. As a Vaillant technician for us this is must do when u are opening heat exchanger and i saw few videos where u are just checking if seal looks good and out it back in which is not smartest thing to do, especially on Viessmann where u have silicon one

    Nice video Elliot, I like the water bottle. One thing too note though............ Like you I used to clean the Vaillant electrodes with something very abrasive, a couple of years ago as part of regular updating, I took myself off to Vaillant training, where I was told by the head trainer that you should NEVER use anything abrasive as it kills the special coating that they apply to make electrodes last longer. HTH

    • @BriaCroTex
      @BriaCroTex 3 года назад +2

      First time hearing this, ignition electrodes are not the problem, flame detection ionisation electrode that's really important to clean, some boilers like Vaillant combine spark and ionisation electrode into 1 electrode so they have to be cleaned basically they have to be shiny after service. I don't want to tell u wrong information but i never heard about that special coat, electrode is basically piece of iron which conduct current.

    • @rayc1503
      @rayc1503 3 года назад

      Correct a few of the Mi's mention not to clean with anything abrasive I.e Viessman and baxi. Nylon brush should be ok imho. Problem with flame rectification electrodes is they rely on ionization to send current back to the board. With calcium deposits covering them they work ineffciantly. So they need a good clean right.

Have been told that the fan speed needs adjusting but don't know how to do it - it's somewhere in the settings - any thoughts? Thanks

      It was fitted brand new about 5 years ago there is no leak anywhere around the radiators the boiler runs fine on hot water only don’t need to top up at all.it’s only when we use central heating while the central heating is on everything is fine it’s when the heating is turned off that’s when all the water in the system is empty’s and I have to refill the boiler to 1.5 bars. There is no visible leaks that I can see it maybe the water is being released through the safety valve outside in the gutter. Just to repeat the water is completely empty only when central heating is turned off.refill the boiler to 1.5 and it will stay at 1.5bars for as long as the central heating is not used that could be six months. Hope this will give more ideas as to what could the problem be thanks for getting back to me so quickly the first time

    • @BriaCroTex
      @BriaCroTex 3 года назад

      U can check pressure when heating is ON i
      And all radiators are nice and hot if pressure is close to 3 that means expansion vessel is empty or low pressure. It's really hard to fix the boiler without seeing it. Sometimes a single noise or little detail can tell u everything best thing would be contact Vaillant and do proper boiler service and if after service u still have issue with pressure then u have leak probably in the wall or floor compression fitting is pretty bad or shark bite is leaking when pressure is increased. U need proper central heating engineer, not a plumber a proper heat engineer,which is really hard to find. Call Alan

    You really shouldn't clean the main heat exchanger like that, the MIs state that it needs a light clean. ("MIs Remove any loose deposits from the heating spirals
    (3) using a soft brush and jet of water")
    Cleaning it like this is essentially taking off a very small layer of the metal, as soon as you see shiny metal it means that you have taken off a layer. If you do that on every service you're going to half the life of your heat exchanger and its going to pin hole. Its common sense really.
    Just lightly clean it and get any major debri off it, you think you're doing good scrubbing it but you're not.
