  • I needed to replace a bearing from the lower gearbox of a STIHL FS 56 trimmer
    After a long period of time, this bearing failed
    Piece numer is 95030039853, type 609-2Z
    Advice: buy an original one, do not use any bearing type 609; the rotation speed is very high, so we need a bearing to withstand the forces

    I loved the visual instructions, which were extremely helpful and like that there was no audio to the video even more - Thx

    Top tip. If you heat the housing right where the bearing sits it will drop right out. And in when you assemble 😉

    You made removing the bearing in 2:20 look easy. I ended up breaking metal pieces around the housing and just through it to the trash. Love the video thought!

      Yeah I am also at this step where that tap pushes out all the gears and bearing (no bearing in the tube where the shaft goes in)..my bearing is still in there(it is in the round part of the head were the spindle came out)..I can see little balls covered in grease so I know it must have exploded..now how to pull that bearing out..?? Looks like it is in there pretty tight.(this is a older FS 55) Got the only bearing I could see out of the trimmer..now were to get the parts for a head that only had the one bearing..or maybe just buy a new gear box..

      Also noticed that my bearing is in the top part of the head..and not a sealed unit like this one.

    There are 3 bearings in some of them. The two that were replaced in this video aswell as one in top of hat 🎩. Make sure an put the gear grease in to the head too.

    "Safety washers" known as circlips in English. A safety washer is usually a lock washer - serrated or friction.

    I see 2 bearings here correct? And only one replaced? If I'm wrong let me know, would like second part number for the other.

    The clearing saw has been used for more than 10 years in grass clearing and is really a stubborn surface of grass leftover. One could say "glazed" as a green hard surface. Should a broken bevel gear be replaced and it would be nice to first clean around. The steel brush is the only trick to rub the aluminum shaft to shine. Would there be "gentler" ways to dissolve with a substance that would not corrode aluminum?

      I advise to use a piece of wood (fir, spruce) to clean it. This way you will not damage the shaft at all

    Hello, thanks for the video. I'm using a FS560 C-EM and I had the same problem, but I was upset when I find that the greasing hole does't go in the gear Chamber, it goes behind the upper bearing, filling the transmission bar! Why? How can I show you in picture?

    • @bercarumarcel1578
      @bercarumarcel1578 4 года назад

      The grease should also go into gear chamber, slowly. But I don't figure out how it goes on transmission bar, the bearing should act as a stopper. Maybe there is something wrong with the bearing. You should check that out first.

    Do you have to take the second circlip off to take the out but shaft bearing ?

    • @UsualRepairs
      @UsualRepairs  4 года назад

      If I remember correctly, there are two large circlips, and you have to take out both of them.

    • @UsualRepairs

      Only the bearing was worn, there was no sign of damage on gears. The gears are very strong, I think they can rezist a lifetime if something unusual doesn't occure

      We blow through these heads on FS90's. We shatter them and strip the gears. We try to save the busted heads, and rebuild them but still only get a few more hours out of them after a rebuild.

      Depends of the quality of the replacement bearings your using aswell as the gear lube. They usually have 3 bearings in the head.

    Any way to add a grease zert without damaging gears or bearings?

    • @UsualRepairs
      @UsualRepairs  4 года назад +1

      Some gear heads have a hole that allows adding grease. You can check for a mid size screw around the gear head, take it out and add grease. If your trimmer hasn't have one, like mine, you can try to add grease through shaft connection.

    I watched another video, where the man just heated the head for about 30 seconds with a heat gun, and the bearing fell out????? Tried it myself, the worn out head was easy, but the good head, put up a fight, ( the housing had cracked where it goes onto the shaft tube, so I was just going to swap the guts over, ( it will be a spare, a new one here is only about $US10 )..
