I finally tried it in St. Louis. It’s not bad. It’s probably best to view it as like a snack and have it in small portions. Overall I like it

Because it's nowhere near bar pie. Its trash. Joanies st Louis style in soulard is way better. To be honest. Fine. Its just ok. I give it a 4.2. But here is the deal. That regular cheese pizza large is freaking 16 to 25 bucks. Insanely overpriced taking advantage of the locals who its mothers milk too.

The key to IMOS is the toppings and always ordering extra sauce other wise the cheese just takes over. It does 100% have a unique cheese style that only us 3 million St.Louisians can appreciate. Your taste buds will be confused if you didint grow up on it.

Yeah my GF whos from st louis NEEDS to have it every time we visit her hometown. I had it few times but tbh I think its pretty gross. And as far as physical appearance goes think the pizza looks very unappetizing. Looks like vomit to me.

I love Imo's and St. Louis style pizza, but I get that it's not for everyone and can be a little different tasting. 6.2 is honestly a pretty good score coming from a NY pizza guy.

Classic east coast pizza Philly New York , New Jersey pizza's are the best hands down .. i spent 2 years in Cali L.A , and Orange County Cali . That pizza SUCKED!!!! every place was lik Dominos style / Little Ceasers style pizzza .. Casey's pizza SUCKS !!! The only place i'll give benefit of the doubt too is Chicago ...

The problem with Imos is that it's so damn expensive for paper thin crust where eating a large is like eating a small regular pizza anywhere else.
That pizza in his hand is easily over $20 which is just insane. It's fine to get every once in a blue moon, but not something I could afford regularly.

St. Louis native here, and this pizza is extremely polarizing in the community. I'm in agreement with Barstool, meh, I'd rather have something else but I'll eat it if my friends insist. Some people drive from all over to get it, others swear it's poison. You like what you like, salute to all, enjoy your pizza, smile, have a great day. If you're ever in The Lou again I'd recommend La Pizza, it's a shack by the road in University City where I grew up. Great slice.

This actually looks like a pizza I'd really like. Don't know about the tang or St. Louis cheese hes talking about, but thats a very Midwestern pizza right there. Cut in squares, cheese over the edges and crispy, and the cracker like crust.
Kind of reminds me of Jack's pizza, which I love, which Dave HATED. So, gotta take this one with a grain of salt I think. And no I'm not from St. Louis, and have never eaten there before.
Provel is basically a blend of the best non-pretentious cheeses

The cheese is smoky...best pizza...in TX now and when I go home I bring back pizza, toasted rav"s, cheese, cheese cake, BBQ sauce and chili beans and pork steaks...lol and salad dressing and few other items...my sister flew here to visit me and brought on,the plane 5 pounds of cheese to give to me. .lol...I even had them sell me the pizza sauce to being back when i,go...lol
Lived in St Louis for a year. The sauce is like chef Boyardee orange sauce but, I wouldn't even mind that because I could eat that. It's worse than that. It's like a generic Boyardee sauce. The cheese is funky but not in a good Euro cheese kind of way. It's called Provel. The crust is crispy. I have no complaints about the crust. Try it at your own risk.
Where's the BONUS Toasted Ravioli review?
If you're still in the city, try anything on The Hill. I would personally recommend Charlie Gitto's.

The natural reaction for a first timer at Imo's is something like this, "WTF is this? Gross? Ewww... Maybe I'll try another slice." (6 months later.....) "Imo's man! The square beyond compare! Get you sum!"

I'm from and live in Chicago and I love Imos. I don't know exactly why, I just do.
As someone from st Louis I'd say that are style is definitely something you half to have grown up on or get used to.
And I can also say that I personally don't like imos the main pizza I love is pironies

I actually like dominoes thin crust cut into squares pep/cheese pizza. It’s got a good crispy crunch to it. It’s kind of similar to this pizza. But it’s hard to put it into a category of real pizza. I agree with Dave on that. It’s different for-sure.
dominos thin crust is low key good af long as the person who makes it gives a fuck and doesnt burn it or skimp on the toppings/sauce/cheese.
had a couple disappointing ones but overall a dominos thin crust is a solid go to in a pitch. especially since all the pizza places near me suck

The next time you’re in St. Louis you should try Fortels Pizza at their original location in Affton. It’s thin crust pizza, but it has a thicker crust than Imo’s. It’s a family favorite of ours, we just ate there today!
I haven’t had fortels in forever, a bunch of my friends worked there back in the day. Great pizza.

100% have to order with extra sauce. Best toppings anywhere. The cheese is an acquired taste for sure but its unique and we love it here in the Lou.
Imo's is fire. I'm not even from that area but had it a few years back with my ex-wife and her family out there. The provel cheese is amazing. Might be the best pizza I have ever had.

Dave needs to come to kansas city Missouri and try either Milwaukee's delicatescent for the pie or Tascio pizza for the Sicilian style pizza.
I like how a biased Dave is complaining that it’s cracker bread pizza but if he had the same pizza anywhere but STL he woulda gave it a higher score, tang and all.
He did mention Pat's ristorante in Chicago having a cracker like texture and saying it's one of his favorite pizzas in Chicago. But Provel cheese does sound kind of a weird thing to put on pizza. I don't live in St Louis so maybe it's something you got to grow up on.

I am from around STL and it is my favorite pizza! I will say some don’t like it because how different it is but I grew up on it and it is my fav. And yes I have had Sally’s once and it was pretty good too just not like imos 😂

I was born in St.Louis but grew up in Atlanta. Literally every time my family went to STL to visit my grandparents my dad would stock up on Imos pizza and Vess soda Lol.
Vess is soooo good I use to buy the cream ones and blue raspberry in bulk I only got em bc they were a lil cheaper than other sodas then I started to love em

At least he went to an older location. Gravois and Arsenal (Store #2. The oldest operating location) used to make the sauce in the restaurant. Not sure since they moved to Jefferson. It was the best location because of the sauce. 💯
Never go just cheese at Imo's. People that love it won't even do that. You go to Imo's you get the deluxe, that one is an 8.8 that's a review.

The best saint louis pizza you'll find are in the small mom and pop shops in the greater saint louis area. If you're ever back in the Saint Louis area, take a trip over to Robertos (preferably in Florissant). They make truly amazing St Louis style pizza.

No it's, not even close. Provel is gross. Maurizios's or Epic Pizza is better than that. There used to be a Firehouse themed pizza place that was FAR FAR superior to IMO's.
Y'know, I'm a saint louis boy and Dave has a good point. I can be sick of eating pizza but still enjoy an imos pizza. Personally though I'd give it a bit of a higher score.
The corner piece isn’t the part to try go for the middle where the pizza is softer and there is more cheese.
And Imos is more about the toppings than just eating a plain cheese.
Also, that pizza looks cold. When it’s hot the pizza will not fold up on the corners like that and the cheese will be melty.

I ate at the one in downtown St Louis. And I don’t know if it was meant to, but the cheese was just so odd. Like our pizza’s cheese was like super melted and seemed like queso or something
imo’s is an acquired taste absolutely but i was raised on it in the stl metro i love it!!! also the pepperoni they use is great i don’t know why it doesn’t taste like other pepperoni
