Good review guys. I like how Mike is searching for quite the right descriptor and that's how I feel with this one. I think the mysterious funk has something to do with the char on this. It's like a really toned down Springbank 12 funk. The Hazelburn 10's five or six years ago had it - a slight plasticine note and a teeny bit of peat but here it's more oak spice. I prefer it to the 15 and it is a top 18 in terms of interest but they've jumped on the price increase bandwagon. It used to be £85 and now it's £125. It's always available so there's no shortage. I think Glen Scotia think they are an available Campbelltown option so I guess they think they can push the boat out. Springbank 18 is costs less than £100 but gone in the blink of an eye. Glen Scotia 18 is a good whisky but not interesting to me at that price unless the abv was higher. However, I actually think this drinks well at 46% so I have a dilemma. 88/100 for me. Cheers. WT
I need more time with this distillate. I haven't found the the right words to properly articulate what I'm experiencing... we have more from this distillery to come.
Haven’t chimed in for a while. Nice review. Happy that I was recently able to scoop up New Hampshire’s last bottle of this as a spare for $109. I love the 15, and of course, the Vic-which now seems hard to find? Recently sprung for the 25, which is awesome but hard to justify vs. nearly 4 bottles of the 18 for the same money. Have had one interesting single cask bottle with a cool lemon thing going on. Anyway….a great distillery and good value for money.
The 2021 annual Campbeltown Malts Fest release was really interesting with that similar GS character from first fill bourbon but a Bordeaux finish (10 yo). Still available in NYC retail too.
94/100 or maybe 95/100 Lagavulin 25, Caol Ila 35, Springbank fresh sherry 18/19 single cask, Port Ellen 37 were a few that received a very high score from us. I'm sure I'm missing a few. We have a play list called "legendary bottles" that might interest you.
the Campbeltown Fest. 2022 Peated PX CS edition finally dropped here in the U.S. this week at K&L for $79.99. Not loving how the special edition stuff they are putting out now are around 8 years old and same with the store picks. The brand got hot and the prices went up and the age down and new terrible looking labels. At least there is no color added to the special editions and store picks
I’ve been wanting to dabble in some ‘scotia never had. Some people say Victoriana, some people say the 18, some people say the Campbeltown non-peated, some say the 15. Sounds like as long as you expect something a little different from your standard scotches you can’t go wrong.
We have a review on the 15 year-old coming soon... These are all enjoyable whiskies. It just depends on what you're looking for. Of the three, I prefer the Victorian, but I'm an abv snob. Dustin likes the 15 best... but as you said, a little different.
Buddy of mine said the new GS labeling 18 Yr is better. I need to pick one up to compare the older GS 18 Yr 2017 vs 2022. GS 18 Yr is my least favorite of the Core Line. Cheers All
@@topshelfdustin3060 The new label Double Cask was better then 2020 or 2021. Better improvement still no 2017 or 2018 but I will take it. Looking forward to the new double Cask rum finish. Hope it's Good. Cheers
Woohoo! I got 2 of these at $100 each to help out a store owner who wanted to clear some shelf space. Feel really better now after this review.
More GlenScotia to come! We have the 15 year-old coming. Any we should look out for?

Just remembered it was actually 15% off of $109, so I’d better add that to the brag!
Great price and sale!

I have a buddy in NYC, maybe he can pick that up for me. shop?
Nice to know. Great review.
Thank you! Cheers!
the 18 was $95 here and the 15 was $55 and I screwed up not buying a few of each 2 years ago.
We all should have bought more two years ago 🥲
What is your highest score bottle to date? Love the 15 since that's only GS I could find.
94/100 or maybe 95/100

Just what the world needs, more young, rushed whisky.

Well that's good to hear. Hopefully it steps it's game up. But really the double cask over this one? You must have one of the good double's!

GS really not my thing, it has this warm glue note in the 15 n Victoriana old version, I'll pass on them
I was more of a paste guy 😉
This is not a Top Shelf whisky😄
Mediocre to me
haha, I've generally not been a fan, but it seems to have grown on me.
