I'm having an absolut blast in this game. Got my own guild and have alliances with others who are trying to fight the big guild.
    The world is amazing.
The open world content is great and I absolutely love how the game feels with no sharding and how smooth it runs. I see people I've met before.
I cant express enough in a youtube comment how much I enjoy it.
Haven't had this much fun in a game since I started FFXIV back in june 2021

@@TempestchronI'm not sure what you mean. GW2 is full of different map instances. It can't show all players and it doesn't use servers, but exclusively sharding on a world server.

Fair point, we all have things that we like and dislike, however not everyone is on-board the 'Pro-Gambling' train. Myself included.
To RubeusCubeus's credit, he has been pre-conditioned into these systems with his history of Maplestory, hence his tolerance to it is much higher than any individual who hasn't been thoroughly exposed to such systems themselves.
I generally agree with RubeusCubeus's views, hence the reason why I watch his video how-ever when he said the following, I can't lie I was taken off-guard.
    4:54 "It's gambling dude, it's fun, it's enjoyable".
I have to be fair and mention the context in which he is saying this.
This is in regards to gear upgrades in Maplestory.
He is saying that the chance of successfully upgrading a gear is very low, while the chance of the gear being outright destroyed is very high.
I personally don't find it 'Fun' when there's a chance for my gear to be outright destroyed. Even though it may be easy to reacquire.
Especially if the chance isn't even 50/50, but heavily in favor of breaking.
Don't forget 'Fun' and 'Enjoyment' is subjective and varies from person to person.
Apart from that, I agree with your point on enjoying games for what it is and to have fun. Keep it up. 👍

I love the Maplestory example you used. Personally, I love the starforce system in Maplestory despite what a lot of people think, the idea of working hard to defeat a boss, get a rare item, gather your friends to watch you upgrade it, and if it goes it's a celebration, if it booms its all fun and laughs. This is enough to keep me playing forever honestly.

While people were playing WoW for a better part of 2 decades, we have been playing these types of Asian style MMOs for roughly the same amount of time. And we have had a boatload of these MMOs that look and feel similar to what we have gotten in these new iterations of Korean MMOs that leads some to think, "so what's new?" I used to think that the MMO genre was the one genre of game that had the highest potential of evolving how it presented its gameplay because of how broad its scope it, but it is sad that it's the genre that had the least innovation over the past decade because of how expensive it is to make and maintain.
Imagine if they could make a whole city using the technology they used from animating the flying whale in TaL. Or maybe a game mechanic that involves flying. The past me expected the industry to already have that kind of feature available for a Ship flying MMO, but oh well..

Honestly, I think not liking the visuals is a pretty valid reason for not playing a game, since that is what you will be starring at all the time while playing. However, I think there is a difference between giving a game a cursory glance and being like "yeah, no, don't like the graphics" or coming to that conclusion after watching a few game play streams and having looked into the graphics settings of the game.

    • @squirrellover69.
      @squirrellover69. 16 часов назад

@@rubeuscubeus Firstly, No. It has nothing to do with lacking the ability to have fun. People can have fun playing games that aren't destined to fail, yes. I can name plenty. The difference here is why would someone with a brain waste their time with a game that will utimately fall much the same way as it has in its place of origin? That fact doesn't necessarily sing of confidence/hopefulness. Numbers don't lie and evidence is public. A game that has poor monetization, lacks content and has no replayability will inevitably bleed players. Second, by your own logic the game is a flash in the pan.. "in the moment" isn't something to write home about. T&Ls future has already been prophesied in south korea (and it failed). To think it'll be different outside of its own country is asinine. Point is.. Players don't want their time wasted. They want a game that will stand the test of time.
Lastly, you can absolutely determine whether or not a game is for you by looking at it. Concord is a perfect example. Unappealing character designs, dull concept/gameplay and launched as a box cost hero-shooter within a market that's already saturated. Peaked at 600 players. Now is dead and in the grave. The argument of someone not knowing if they'll like the game unless they play it has always been an abysmal take. If someone walks into a restaurant and sees that sandwiches are made with dirt and glass shards, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to ascertain if whether it's fit for consumption or just flat out bad. Like.. hello???

Something I realize, we need to create a new term than just call something an MMO, since this term is both too vague and has no definition to what an MMO truly is.
Like the Progression Genre sounds like it is more definable to what an MMO is seeking to accomplish, where the gameplay is about the constant progression to the game without ever reaching the end. And then add something like Methodical-Style for "slower" combat games like WoW , FF14, and Throne and Liberty, and Fluid-Style for more action based games with fantastic movement and combat that seemingly flows all together like MapleStory, Vindictus, and Phantasy Star Online 2.
Methodical is probably not the term that should be used however, but hopefully you can see what I am trying to get at. Just changing terms for things that can be more defined and showcase better what something is than use an extremely vague term like MMO which just means game with people playing it and it is always online - Call of Duty is an MMO by this metric (obviously it is a first person shooter, but still).

I've been playing this game a little bit and it's really not that bad at all I don't understand where some of the hate comes from, almost as if people just hate it because it's an MMO and I guess it's become a trend to just hate new things. I get the pay2win stuff is horrible and I do think the game is overcluttered with menus and systems but overall the game itself is pretty fun so far. I also think adding in mounts would be preferrable .. the character models and armor sets look so good that it feels kinda shitty to have to constantly morph around everywhere in animal form, I'd rather just have a mount to be honest.

I always argue with my friends about gaming and such ... gets rough sometimes and nasty :D we take it as fun tho. Tho i even they know really well i have played so many games i lost count(over 700) from my 3y. of being a nerd gaming kid and know a lot about it, firends just want to annoy me for thier fun and i get it.
we got to our MMO games as well to how we grinded Metin2 and its private servers, 4 story bc we didnt have money for WoW, runescape, Maplestory, Tera, BnS,eve online, neverwinter nights etc etc...
we knew most of the games we played were hot grinding garbage mostly asian ones too... but we had fun. fun grinding gear to sell, just be better then others.
the thing is we even now know how predatory or trash some games r and some good classics or some finally sorta fixed games like New World r playing and what to expect. idk till lvl 35 we had some fun in TL tho we saw its repetetivnes and nowdays its killing us to play more bc we stop to care soon enough (we r around 25-30 y.o. btw).
Im am happy for ppl that found fun in a game that looks like uninteresting to me ... bc i know ive been there (like my friend who enjoyed Skull nad bones, even tho i warned him that battlepasses will come and that daily grind of coins is just the endgame all over again and game will after a week fall of players, they made fun of me ... but i was right. didnt took the fun from him tho and his 50h were woirth the time similiar with lost ark and so on)
its just me problem that when i see a game i learn from how it looks like, what genre it is, i can already see potential and also the downfall of that game for me.
so i may brag about how the game is blend, nothing interesting, but but ppl seems to enjoy it and im happy they have fun

You mentioned cognitive dissonance briefly at the end there, but I think it is a very useful concept to explain the "hating" behaviour you observed. I'll try to sketch out what happens in people's minds when a new MMO releases to warm reception.
Cognition A: Reviewers say the new game is enjoyable and has some redeeming qualities. Player population seems good and the 3-month honeymoon phase is usually the best time to enjoy a new release.
Cognition B: But I really like my current MMO and all my friends are there. And I haven't even done all the things I wanted to do in that game.
=> Result: Cognitive dissonance. Feeling of unease.
Resolution strategy: add negative cognitions towards new release and weigh them more heavily.
Cognition C: Actually, I hate the new game because of [reasons XYZ] and also its entire subgenre.
=> Result: Cognitive dissonance resolved. Breathe a sigh of relief and go back to playing my current MMO.
Another perspective on this problem is that for many players MMOs (and other multiplayer online games) are not "just games", but a hobby. A lifestyle choice. This is part of the reason it is so hard to get your friends to try out a new MMO. You're not just asking them to give a new thing a shot out of curiosity, you're asking them to devote less time to a hobby of theirs. And oftentimes an existing social circle that comes along with it. In favor of a new hobby where you'd have to create an entirely new social circle.
