    I think some viewers turned on Caffeinated Dad because (1) He was a GW2 channel that later transitioned into "game hopping." It was a sudden and unexpected change of brand, and some people just don't like change. And (2) He was praising Final Fantasy constantly, while simultaneously crapping on GW2. His video themes were often like, "This is why I like Final Fantasy more than Guild Wars." That wasn't exactly the message that GW2 players wanted to hear. (I think he's toned down these harsh comparisons now, probably because of negative viewer feedback). Anyway, I'm still subbed to his channel... I just simply don't watch the videos that don't interest me (like FF stuff). I like Rubeus's GW2 and Runescape vids... I skip the MapleStory stuff. Not EVERY video needs to appeal to EVERYONE.

      I don't understand why people say negative things like 'game hopping'. It can also be called variety gaming, which might be what someone needs for a while after having burned out playing a single game.
      After having burnt out playing gw 2, it's only natural to feel that a new game is better in many aspects.
      In the end it's a hobby and it should be fun. If playing different games makes someone feel better, let them do that.
      For me the term 'game hopping' has a religious touch.

      I don't think it's the messaging or change. He has a right to do what he wants for his channel and as you said, if you're not interested in a particular video, just don't watch. However a title like "This is why I like Final Fantasy more than Guild Wars" is clickbaity to garner views and some people get irked, however there's nothing wrong with promoting his videos in a more dramatic fashion. Just watch the video and agree or disagree and provide constructive feedback.

      He never crapped on GW2. He does make comparisons, but he never says GW2 is bad, or that he doesn't like GW2. He does mentions things about the game that he isn't fond of, but he does the same thing for FFXIV, and other games that he plays now.

      I never got the hate against caffeinated dad personally, like I see your point but. Idk man, gw2 players keep priding themselves on how good and non toxic the community is but then everyone gets upset cause a youtuber decided to play another game. Guild wars 2 is my favourite game, I got thousands of hours in, and I actually liked his videos on ff14 and lotro

    There are some times when we can get a little too much into GW2. You grind, you do the dailies or you sit long hours in WvW/PvP. It happened to me few times in my 9 years long GW2 journey. Usually after few months of playing I felt that I overdid it a little and I just knew I had to take a break in order not to lose my love to this game. How did it turn out? It helped each time. Whenever I must find reasons why to play something regularly or when I spend too much time thinking "what to do next" I know this is a good time to take a break - so later on there will be some new content to catch up on. This way everything stays fresh. For me this is just a way not to end the "honeymoon" phase with this (or any other) game.

    I've been burnt out on GW2 for the last couple weeks myself. I have taken multiple breaks from the game since I first started playing, sometimes for years on end. Some people can find one game and decide that it is the only game for them, and that's great. For the rest of us, though, sometimes variety is needed and can give us a new appreciation for the things we love about any specific game

    3:58 People form tribes based on MMO they are currently playing, so when their content creator stops playing the game or some new MMO pops out they go feral. Fear-Thats whats happening here. They are afraid that their favorite MMO (tribe) will lose players because of actions of others and they are dreading of a fact that the time they spent it the game will feel wasted.
    They are not living (enjoying) in the moment, because they are either reminiscing of their ''good old days'' of their MMO or fear that their favorite game will die because of some other external force.
    One common denominator occurs with those people, which I will not share here. They know why they do it, they just need one genuine look in the mirror.
    Long story short, they are mad at people who quit the game because they think its a bad PR for their MMO.

    The beauty of GW2 is you can actually take breaks without falling behind unlike most mmos. To me people who take shit on people like Caffeinated Dad are just weird because you do not have to watch everything someone makes. We are living a point in time where there is more videos out a day than its ever been and people moan about when single person doesn't make specific videos constantly.
    Its like fandoms of franchises i was a huge fan of Star Trek but the route they took with modern Trek is just for me so i just do not watch the modern stuff and just watch something else and the old stuff its not 80's anymore and there is more stuff to watch.

    My issue with caffeinated dad is that he just started his channel to make content, not to play the game, ofc he got bored. I have around 10k hours in GW2 (while i have many hours i am casual and i play a lot of games) and it was very obvious that most of his content was for the sake of making content and not really talking about the game as a game, just as a platform for content making.

    I’m a game hopper. I usually play games exclusively until I burn out and move to another one. I have several MMO such as GW2 ESO Ff14 and others and also ARPG like D4 Torchlight Infinite and POE. I have another friend who still plays EQ2 almost exclusively but I have gradually got her to try some of the ones I mentioned earlier. But everyone is different.

    I didn't know people were hating on him, but I don't think that playing other games and taking a break from your main game is a bad thing. I do that quite a lot with gw2 and it has made my experience with the game a lot better. I've taken breaks and played other mmos quite seriously, doing endgame stuff and getting involved with guilds for a few months before I return to the game. This is also why I'm in love with the game and even though I enjoy those games a lot during my break from gw2, it feels like those feelings are isolated. I mean, there are too many things that just click with me when it comes to gw2 and I believe a lot of players feel like that towards their favorite mmorpg, so even when they take breaks from it(if they can even allow themselves to do that), they never forget how good it is.
    I actually love the feeling I get when I return to the game and there is new content I can quickly get acquainted with. And with the current changes they are making to classes, you also get to experiment and experience new things with the classes. I think gw2 has broken me in many ways and now it is very hard to play another mmorpg without having some expectations of it. Even though I enjoy a lot of tab targeted games, just the fact that they don't have a dodge button feels cheap and gear treadmills feel unsatisfying in MMORPGs at this point. I've never really had an interest in playing multiple classes, but I realize that having the option to hop from one class to another and being able to enjoy all the specs in endgame instanced content without the need to grind all over again is just too good. I mean, with the changes they are doing right now and how different classes become viable, I just feel a lot more blessed while playing gw2. I just love all the classes in gw2 and that is coming from someone that has only enjoyed playing one class in each mmo for about 8-9 years.
    I enjoy gearing up, but I play arpgs and singleplayer rpgs that satisfy that itch from time to time. I don't seem to be getting it as often as before and I've started enjoying the freedom of gw2 a lot more. I'm also more interested in chasing legendaries and using gold for account upgrades rather than reaching the top for a single season. It feels a lot better to hop from one content to the other in a few clicks and always feel like you're progressing towards something. Changing to whatever class/spec/role you want with a few clicks is also a very good feeling and it never gets old, so I don't imagine maining another mmorpg any time soon with how things are looking with the upcoming ones. Maybe I will play them for an year at most and enjoy my stay, but gw2 will forever be my homestead(ugh).

    Why is it hard for people to understand that if someone plays one game for 1000+ hours that they may not want to keep playing? I get that these are mmos but let’s be real anything gets boring after you do it long enough. Doesn’t make it a bad game. Hell if you played 1000 hours and only then did it start to get boring, I think that’s a pretty good game.

    most if not all MMO's have some sort of grind. It's how they keep players online playing the game. Guild Wars 2 doesn't have vertical progression that keeps players grinding for gear. However, Many of the things that players want are hidden behind achievements. These can be in story missions, where such and such has to be done to get the achievement and you have to have all 18 achievements to get a title needed for a legendary and then it has to be done in every zone of the expansion that the legendary comes from. Some mastery points for advancing levels are hidden in story achievements. I'm working toward a legendary now and it can be very grindy with not only the achievements but the accumulation of materials needed for such legendary. If I'm not careful, I can see myself getting burnt out with the amount of time and things I see i need/want to do and I'm not even a content creator. Yes, people are allowed to get burnt out and sometimes taking breaks, playing something different makes the game more fun when u come back to it.

  • @NikeGipple
    @NikeGipple 4 дня назад +1

    As well said the problem coffee had with GW2 could easily occur with ff14 or other mmo as well. Here the problem is in the attitude with which one plays. One must have fun before putting a carrot in front of the stick.
    Many old-fashioned game designers define video games by their overall goal but on some games such as mmo's this definition has obvious flaws. Getting to the end of all the content in a 12-year-old mmo creates boredom and detachment.
    I speak to creators in general, Don't play mmo's like this or you will hurt yourself. Have fun and let the fun shine through in the content you bring otherwise the problem will be obvious to your viewers.
    Coofee had this problem in his last year on GW2. It was obvious to everyone even to him.

    For me, it's not about CD not always playing GW2 - I have no issue with that what so ever. I had a 3 year break from GW2 and I still play other games as well. I have two kids and a full time job, so I know all about the struggles of the so called life puzzle really well. My issue with CD is that he makes guides with invalid or even false information. After having to correct him in the comments a couple of times, I lost interest. If he'd at least be open about not being sure abut things, I'd be fine with it, but he's not. If you're gonna make a guide for whatever game, please make sure you're giving new players the correct information.

    I actually quite gw2 too back in June and stumbled in to RS3. Hadn't played rs since 2010.
    I loved the journ of gw2 especially going through the story. For me though end game was a bit boring. Biggest end game is working towards legendaries which requires doing a lot of things I don't like or enjoy about the game.

    • @jhmi7877
      @jhmi7877 4 дня назад

      The end game can definitely be boring to people. But I will argue that working towards legendaries is far from what the end game is. End game = more stories if you follow the expacs and the installments in between them, exploration (from said expacs/installments), achievement-hunting or collections (sometimes for cosmetics), WvW or PvP (I personally camped in WvW when I had no interest in PVE stuff), fine-tuning your current class or trying out others. And the most recent addition of homesteads, for people who are interested in housing.
      All of this can definitely still be boring for you, so that's still valid! But it won't be fair to say that end game doesn't have much outside of legendaries XD

    • @Saulram91
      @Saulram91 4 дня назад

      @@jhmi7877 I did a full playthrough of the games story in order including expacs. Personally was the best part to me and for me.
      But yeah the grind was just to tedious. Hated pvp and wvw so mostly left pve legendaries but raids was not chil at all for a casual game and was a real pain to find training groups even with discord.
      Left open world legendaries and a lot of the have too many annoying things like achievements behind bosses or events that appear at random wasting a lot of time hunting. Or having to do the same boring meta over and over again. I mean the metas are bad a but not for the 100s of times required plus it felt like a job having to log on at very specific times to jump in to a meta map especially to make sure you don't get a dead overflow map.
      Just a horrible experience long term. Short term amazing and fun but it's to repetitive and the same thing over and over. The hardest pill to swallow was making full set of legendary armor to realize I did all of that and it did not change anything game wise. End game did not change or expanded it was just more of the same.

    • @Saulram91
      @Saulram91 4 дня назад

      @@jhmi7877will add that I put over 1k hours in too gw2 and for the most part I loved it.
      I had no plans to play it again after 2014 and recently just wanted to see if it played on the steam deck. The raptor mount hooked me and I wanted more.
      The combat and mounts are so good in gw2 and I loved it. But for me I love a game with a good story and plus is achievements with rewards.
      Thinking of why I'm loving RS3 so much and my experience with gw2 and it's end game. RS3 I have a ton of small goals and rewards with almost every lvl unlocking something.
      Gw2 when you work towards legendaries you kinda get nothing during the extremely long and boring grind until you finally unlock the legendary and even then you probably all ready have ascended so it's not like it's something amazing and a lot of the times the legendaries don't look that great so I'd rather transmog them anyway.
      Biggest thing was just unlocking quality of life for multi class or skill builds but those builds.
