Your fashion sense really evolved over the last few years! I love the latest outfit of your thief, it's so good. And it's always cool to see someone really stick to their first char and main, especially in gw2. My main has been changing quite a few times since release.
Warhammer online created dynamic events, Guild wars 2 nearly perfected it. The combat system is still ahead of it's time even 10 years later. The F2P model GW2 utilizes is the best in the industry imo. Lastly and most importantly the community is one of if not the best I've ever been a part of.
I also like that you don't have to keep a monthly sub, so you don't have to worry about maximizing your 1 month sub, which is what I do in other games that has a sub model.
I remember launch of this game. Got early access so i started a day early and skipped school to play because it was my birthday. Here I am 10 years later still maining the same character.
If I remember correctly, I quit playing Rift at the time GW2 came out, and only began playing late 2013. Rift was to some extent the first mmo that adapted dynamic events to some extent. Sadly they sank the ship and focused on everything but making that aspect better. Yet I can never forget those large zone scale invasions where the forces beyond the rift would send out skirmishers to track down and capture checkpoints, kill you quest npc's and lay siege to towns. While in GW2 you can sometimes get completely lost in immersion as you follow some random npc around the map. And Verdant Brink was as close to what I remember Rift as yet so much more.
damn, i been through the same man!!! i am 27 now and also played during the beta. the game still has something for me to comeback after some breaks and it is still atractive to me!
Guild wars memories are the most nostalgic and memorable of any game. I dont have a pc and stopped after 5 years but i hear the music and it takes me back.
it wouldn't be possible without cloud storage and external hard drives. still even with everything i filmed, i'm always upset at myself for not filming more back then. oh the joys of being a content creator while gaming🤷♂️
This video made me think about launch. I was literally the exact same age as you, 26 right now. April 10th 2012, pre purchase came out and i had my box with just the code in it on my doorstep. I opened it, created my account, linked my gw1 account with it. And waited. Thankfully i didn't have to wait long for the first beta weekend event but still! Fast forward to August, the days grew longer as i waited for the game to release. I literally slept with my pre purchase box in hand to read the back text over and over and over again. I had alerts set so facebook would ping me very loudly to make sure i didn't miss stress tests. Seeing as those were at USA prime time i usually had to wake up in the middle of the night. Much to my mom and dads dismay. And then it happened, launch day. August 25th 2012. 24 cans of redbull and i was ready to go, time to enter tyria and enjoy this amazing game. And afterwards enhance my relationship with my toilet due to the redbull's \o/ Having been playing the game for 10 years has given me great joy. Here's to 10 more!
Oh yeah, I completely forgot about the stress tests. Those were great experiences. So much more fun than sleep. I even managed to quit smoking at GW2 release because i was distracted and didn't wanna take that many breaks to go out to smoke anymore. ^^"
This is a wonderful video, thank you for sharing your story! It's so cool to see people's nostalgia and how much the game means to them. I haven't played a full decade yet myself, but I'll get there! I'm at 7.5 years right now, I remember starting in early 2015 on my actual birthday! I'm a bit sad anet doesn't account for leap years because until then my main character used to get a gift on my real life birthday which was fun. I'm like you in that I never changed my main from the one I rolled all the way back on day one - I've tried every profession and got plenty of alts but none so fun as the first. I could go on but nobody asked for a research paper worth of writing in a comment. Here's to another ten years of Guild Wars 2! Can't wait to celebrate their 20th with you all
@@moopliss Elementalist! At the time I chose it because I love that sort of theme, elemental powered heroes and all. I REMEMBER playing this game RIGHT when it came out. Leveling through the human starting area with my buddies was incredible, but when we first hit WvW, it absolutely BLEW MY MIND. This has been the MMO that I've come back to most often - it's such an incredible experience.
haha crazy bro, I bought this game on release with my bro when I was 12. I was active between seasonal events and boy has it been a whole ass trip !! Its crazy how this game ages with us; can't quite put my finger on it, but the game aged like a fine wine kinda like minecraft... but that ones debatable..

Dynamic events were in gw2 prior to WoW having anything like this and prior to world quests. WoW always copies ideas, yet people think they do everything first, now they are even coping gw2 mounts for dragonflight expansion.
@@HeroSevenRacing So, all good MMOs take good ideas from other MMOs and put their own spin on then. At least WoWs real flying physics dragon (skyscale) doesnt require a long convoluted grind, then only getting 99% of new skins from a store. Or saving up 25 to 30 dollars worth of gold to gems, to just get a new skin. WoWs dragon we get to unlock customization features, colors, skins, claws, diff heads, bodies, tails. GW2 couldnt hold its large player base. Hence why before end of Dragons. Its mainly die hard players who have been playing since it came out. The only innovative things GW2 brought to MMO world, are better mounts, and better puzzles. GW2 hearts and events are boring, just like WoWs world quests.
@@pokeylope6108 And now you've demonstrated you've never leveled through Wow's recent content, because there are several questlines that shift the world around you and make it so that towns ARE in fact disrupted and you HAVE to take care of things before you can progress, but this was only AFTER Rift implemented it first. To be fair, WoW copied it in a partial and halfass way in comparison due to their adherence to the Big World Engine, but is close enough that it is exactly obvious it is something Rift made them realize they either had to implement to some degree or get left behind. Several other games implemented it as well, including GW2, but Rift was undeniably earlier.
@@ZealothXyven No its not lmao. Very few towns have phased content, that barely changes shit. Like village in Drustvar where you find everyone frozen in stone from a witches curses. Then after the quest its a town with un frozen NPCs. But nothing dynamical or dramatically changed. Ive leveled through all of WoWs content from 2004 till now dumbass. None of that phasing is remotley similar to live events where you defend towns etc. WoW has some phasing sometimes, but not live action events lol.
Crazy to look back and reflect and use games as a timestamp in our journey irl. What a unique video. Thanks for sharing so much about you as a person.
