For me there will never be a monster as unstoppable and terrifying as clover from Cloverfield. Such a unique and very alien design we hadn’t seen before. And his scream is just chill inducing.
CGI it has become simply amazing and joining the imagination of the creators is divine. It is to thank all those who are dedicated to producing some of these renderings.

Not gonna lie, I find the trope of monsters roaring in a pose to intimidate everyone even further a bit overused. If a huge creature knows it is strong and menacing already and just gets straight to the job, that would be the one I'd really fear...because it would be so strong it wouldn't even bother to show it's power.
The roar's and posturing are realistic like territorial threat displays to try and assert dominance. Very common in the animal kingdom as a final warning. A lot of monsters and creatures have animal like intelligence so it makes sense they would exhibit the same types of behaviors.
I blame Jurrassic park, it's so overused with most intimidating cgi animals on screen now. They do it with lions, bears, and even when people shrink and are attacked by insects they even do it. While in real life, if those animals really wanted to kill you, they'll do it before you even realize you were even being attacked. Only animals that roar in intimidation are the ones scared or intimidated of you and/or are not predators.
Many of them have have great effects, lights and destruction of whole citys. Meanwhile the Kraken sunk one Ship but thanks to the absolutely amazing music it's my favourite out of them! Hans Zimmer for the win 🔥🔥🔥
I was near Joint Base Mcguire Dix Base in New Jersey during a weekend of Howitzer artillery canon live ammunition training. All around us were incredible explosion sounds while the Earth shook, we shook, and windows rattled. I have seen a lot of movie action scenes in theaters with incredible sound systems, but to witness great explosions for real is an entirely different experience to appreciate the amount of destructive force mankind is capable of.
Ghidorah's heads in a nutshell: No.1: Calm a collected, just wants the job done and gone. No.2: Bossy and has quite the temper. No.3: Basically the idiot, bro had a huge ass plastic bag on his head.
Honestly, thanks to Clash of the Titans for making the big leap into big ass monsters that look good and gave us what we have today I mean.. sure you had that first Godzilla remake and then King Kong.. but I think Clash of the Titans and the Kraken really opened up the _scale_ of the monsters. And no I'm talking about movies from like the early 2000s, not the old ones of Godzilla and Kong where you didn't have the scalez not really.
Not to rain on your parade, but POTC's kraken was 2006, Clash was 2010, so it wasn't really the "first" from where I stand. I do grand you that in Clash they revealed more of the actual monster. And I would like to offer up Deep Rising's mega-squid as well.

This is because when I was in high school, I used to try and do stupid things to embarrass my very polite and well put-together mother. One day, she had enough of my shit, and instead of quietly scolding me like she usually did when I did something dumb to embarrass her, she grabbed 2 pool noodles and recreated the Balrog scene by slamming the noodles into the ground and yelling very loudly "YOU. SHALL. NOT.... PAAAASSSS" Everyone looked at us. Everyone heard us lol she maintained the same unyielding eye contact for what felt like a year, and I never tried to embarrass her again lololol I had ZERO warning, she just saw the noodles and Balrog'ed my ass into behaving lol I love my mother
Cloverfield is the BEST monster movie of all time imo, it just got everything that makes it perfect. Showing the monster so less, keeping it a secret and unknown, making it SCARY AF, not showing that people are defeating it or fighting it off as much as Godzilla movies and more to humans trying to survive it

I always liked how the skull crawlers long prehensile tongues were a unique feature that no other monster had. It really made them stand out from other monsters. I especially loved the way Tamara emerged to fight king.

A fire-breathing dragon that size would have destroyed the armies of the Host of the Valar in seconds before Earendil could even arrive with the Great Eagles. @mkytl270 a mountainside could be described otherwise. "I clung to the mountainside for support as I tied the rope back to the anchor". Thus the Balrog could have broken a couple miles of the mountainside falling (or rolling) down it, or could have made a 20 foot crater and both would have counted. I believe the mountains you speak of are specified as "towers" in one passage, not necessarily mountains. But even then, this is fantasy and believing in a dragon that big is a really cool thought.
Same, I would’ve loved to see more hellscape depravity or horror. Like the Baba Yaga scene with hell boy or more demons walking on earth and causing chaos idk so much potential.

The POTC Kraken scene is still so iconic to me. The way those organ pipes hit as soon as the big tentacles destroy the ship. Absolutely stunning.

I believe the mountains you speak of are specified as "towers" in one passage, not necessarily mountains. But even then, this is fantasy and believing in a dragon that big is a really cool thought.

NGL, one of my favorites is an underrated one. the Hellboy remake may be bad, but I loved that monster scene.
Same, I would’ve loved to see more hellscape depravity or horror. Like the Baba Yaga scene with hell boy or more demons walking on earth and causing chaos idk so much potential.
