    Caruso himself, I believe, would have been blessed. Tremendous flowing melodic lines. Very high in the giro. Vowel sounds pulled inward, so breath is immense and silent. In the two phrases before the final phrase, the pulling is so immense and long that her final finishing words are gigantic. That is not pushing, it is the product of sound technique and immense emotion. What a woman!; what an artist; what a model for future sopranos.

    I know this interpretation isn’t for everyone, but I defy anyone to find a more beautifully sung Tosca. Kiri sang this role in the only way she could - as herself. And it’s sublimely gorgeous and moving.

    • @philipkuttner7945
      @philipkuttner7945 3 года назад +4

      What I find remarkable about this interpretation is her anger at God. I’ve never heard it this way before, but when you read the words, it’s all there if you look for it. If nothing else, she sings directly to God as few others do.

    I know she’s not everyone’s cup of tea in this role, but I don’t think this aria has ever been more gorgeously sung. The tone that she could spin in her prime is unparalleled.

    One of the greatest divas ever. Her lyric voice would not be adequate for Tosca, but she managed to sing beautifully this most famous aria. And she is an excellent actress too. Bravissima.

      More acclaim? You maybe young, but hers is one of the most storied careers. She has quite an extensive catalog of recordings. She sang for Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding seen by millions all over the world.

    • @ER1CwC
      @ER1CwC 4 дня назад

      @@phedrob3735 Which of her contemporaries did you have in mind? I agree with Serrano here, but one thing to consider is that she was somewhat limited in what she could sing given her fach. Her voice was light but not that high. Mozart and Strauss were perfect for her, but the most popular operatic rep is Verdi and Puccini, and she couldn't access bel canto repertory in the way that a Sutherland or a Caballe could.

  • @apsetiadi
    @apsetiadi 3 года назад +22

    I don't usually opt for Dame Kiri for Puccini, but here, she undoubtedly sings which such an intelligence unsurpassed by any other sopranos. She crafted and measured each phrase beautifully and just listen to that subito crescendo at the end (rimuneri). Who else did that? No one. She really understood which part would magnify the intensity of her voice and which part would not. Such highly conceptual singing. Unbelievable.

    • @Wotan123456789
      @Wotan123456789 2 года назад +1

      Unsurpassed by any other soprano? A bit of an overstating, I think. This is a fine performance from someone who is not in her repertory but still uses her 'limited' resources to make the most out of it.

    • @apsetiadi
      @apsetiadi 2 года назад +1

      @@Wotan123456789 Unsurpassed in how she strategically placed a crescendo at the end. It gives a novelty. So far I haven't found any other sopranos who did that yet. Or perhaps she just ran out of breath and involuntarily blew the word off (?) If that were the case I suppose it was a blessing in disguise.

    • @Wotan123456789
      @Wotan123456789 2 года назад +1

      @@apsetiadi Actually it's doesn't sound like a crescendo but more of a little push on the last seconds. It is, however, IMO, the only part in this aria where she fails to provoke a proper: after a Bb in ff, followed by some lines in pp that attack in 'cosi' sound rather unmusical to me. Still, many sopranos sang that last word in forte or mezzo forte, according to their capacities.

    It should show how great Kiri is. This role is completely unsuited to Kiri's voice, and yet she succeeds here. Callas could never take on Kiri's roles, especially anything a Mozart role, like Don Giovanni.
