    This video shows you what to expect when installing a Trans Go Kit. This TransGo Reprogramming Kit comes with everything you need to recalibrate the accumulators, feed orifices as well as pressure regulation for street, strip and off road. The resulting increases clutch plate durability and produces short-firm shifts that are perfect for hot rods as well as work trucks. In addition, when using the included optional low hold 1-2 shift valve, the transmission will stay in low gear with lever in manual low position. With this kit you can expect to increase trans performance, durability and longevity. This kit was installed on a 3rd Gen Toyota 4Runner but the steps showcased will apply to most trans valve bodies.
    This kit will work for:
    A343F:Reprogramming Kit 1985 - 2017
    A340E:Reprogramming Kit 1985 - 2017
    A340F:Reprogramming Kit 1985 - 2017
    A340H:Reprogramming Kit 1985 - 2017
    A341E:Reprogramming Kit 1985 - 2017
    Chris has reported that his Trans temps have also decreased overall with typical driving habits after doing this #sicmod.

    Great video! I just pulled the AW4 VB from my XJ to do this job.
    Quick tip on the deburring of the separator plate holes: Get a bigger drill bit (maybe 5/16 in this case) and turn it in the hole BY HAND with light pressure. The point of the bigger bit will clear the burrs from the edge of your hole. MUCH easier and faster than trying to trim it away with a razor blade. :)

    What were the symptoms of the transmission that lead you to the faulty solenoid? I'm trying to chase down an issue with my 1st gen Tacoma (A340F Trans) which has some jarring shifts from Drive to Reverse when at a stop. U-joints are good and recently lubed. Driveshaft carrier bearing appears to be okay. Maybe, the previous owner installed a kit like this? Chris mentioned the Drive to Reverse shift is firm.

    • @christophergoodwin6846
      @christophergoodwin6846 2 года назад +1

      Yes shifting into reverse in general not even just from drive feels very jerky. The symptom that lead me to the solenoid was when I don’t fully stop at a stop sign (rolling stop) and then I press the gas I get a weird shift/loss of power between 1-2 shift. If I fully stop it doesn’t happen at all, new solenoid actually didn’t end up fixing this problem after driving it for a while. That solenoid definitely wasn’t functioning though 😅..

    Masters, I have a question, you can put a larger spring in the valve body oil accumulators, a mechanic was changing the accumulator spring of a Chevrolet L460 transmission and I wonder if that can be done with Toyota transmissions, 4runners 3rd gen are a little slow and the 4runners from 2003 onwards accelerate and respond better, maybe if they upgraded the transmission accumulator springs from a 2003 4runner to a 97 I think it would have more strength because when the accumulators push the oil harder you will have more response, Maybe one day they can try it, I would be happy to do it if an update could be made to the accumulators

      It's normal for them to shift rough when cold and smoother when warm. Transmissions shift better when the fluid is up to operating temp. As the temp goes up, the fluid thins out and allows for smoother shift.

      To speak for Chris, it was definitely a challenge to find the right ones. If you have a 2000 limited with a push button 4wd shifter like Chris has, then the solenoids we link in the video description should be the right ones for that platform. He basically had to remove them first and then he compared them with pictures that PARTSOUQ had to get the right style with the right mounting brackets attached.

    Hi guys. I need to rebuild my A340E transmission for my Toyota Tundra and this is an affordable option which says is good for increased torque and towing. I'm buying a few beefier internals such as raybestos clutch discs, etc, so is this kit something you recommend. I'm not supercharging the v8 or anything, it's just a work truck but optimal towing matters to me. Thanks for the help and any advice you can give.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Год назад +1

      Yes, we think the Transgo kit is a good way to go. If you're already going to have the transmission torn apart, it will give you firmer shifts and reduce clutch plate wear. I'm curious, who's going to rebuild it?

    • @oldowl4290
      @oldowl4290 Год назад

      @@TimmyTheToolman I am actually with aid of a friend. I bought a rebuild kit from OPT which comes with a manual and there is a fantastic 3 part video series of a college instructor rebuilding one (Michael Fleming). So between those two I should be ok. I plan to photo each step and take my time. I will probably buy a torq converter and will likely replace one set or more of the planetary gears as I read they are prone to fail in the early year Tundras. There’s also another guy on youtube, an Australian guy who does a lot of transmission videos including how to properly test and clean solenoids. In short, I couldn’t afford a 4k rebuild so going DIY while also installing better components is my best option and saves $2000.

    • @oldowl4290
      @oldowl4290 Год назад

      @@TimmyTheToolman FYI, I found out that the A340 issue is in fact not the gears but the torrington needle bearing between the OD planetary and ring gear and this is not just an 00-02 issue. Once that fails it in turn destroys the planetary gear set. It's a lubrication and overheating issue, such as with towing in overdrive where the torq converter is unlocking and continually downshifting, searching for lower gears. My friend is a master yota guy and after very thorough parts searching we found ZERO evidence of any actual part change numbers, supercession, upgrades, etc, for the 03+ years all the way up until the next get A750 series at which point some things do change. So the only remedy really is to put in an 06 trans into any year prior. I did however find just one trans company in Alberta Ca. that was previously rebuilding the OD gearsets with a larger torrington which also requires machining of the planetary race (pocket) where the bearing sits, in essence replacing the 1.5" OD bearing with a 2.0" OD bearing that has slightly thicker needles.
      The problem however is they stopped making these a few years ago due to lack of parts to rebuild (because so many were shredded).. so they are no longer making this modded set! In a nutshell, this means anyone who has an A340 is driving a time bomb as far as I'm concerned. The only #1 thing people can do immediately, is replace that bearing.. especially every 100k miles for preventative measure and if possible find a way to install a larger one, machine the race, etc. I actually called countless places nationwide trying to get a new/used gearset and only 1 place had a set..only one. I was extremely lucky to get it. If you want a new set from Toyota just the planetary alone is $1000 and includes no mods. I got my used set (planetary, ring, sun, etc) for $200. I'm also installing a slightly larger transmission cooler, derale 13011 thermostat and a MaxTow temperature gauge.

    The one thing I do not like regarding my Tacoma's A340E is kickdown: its too late and forces me too deep in the thottle going around town to make it come in and feel safe about it more often than not. Typical situation is this: I'm just into third gear [near 40mph or so] and a tight freeway on-ramp or merge demands quicker acceleration or I need to avoid some knucklehead and leave them in the rear view. If pavement is wet [I have an open diff] full throttle to get the kickdown is a dumb to insane move so... its unusable about 75% of those times I might want it. I'd like kickdown to hit around 2/3 throttle or so. Presently, a 2/3 throttle at lower speeds just loads the engine down and the go factor just doesn't really exist at non freeway speeds. Is a shift kit or reprogramming kit a fix for this, or an adjustment of some kind?

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Год назад +1

      I don't think this Transgo kit will change how much throttle input it takes to get the transmission to kick down. If you have an earlier yeah 1st Gen Tacoma with the throttle body that has 3 cables going to it (throttle, cruise control and kick down), you can take slack out of the cable to make the kickdown more responsive. You simply loosen the 14mm nuts for the transmission kickdown, make the adjustment to take some but not all of the slack out of the cable and lock it back into the bracket with the 14mm nuts. You can easily figure out which cable is the trans kickdown by seeing where the cables run too. The trans kickdown runs back under the rig to the transmission. Hope this helps.

      Chris has reported that it definitely made the shifts a bit more ‘crisp’? Not sure if that’s the right word to describe it, but ultimately it made the shifts more noticeable.

      @@TimmyTheToolman I recently bought it and want to use the truck setting and not the hot rod. Any suggestions?

    it was painful to watch him take apart the valve body with no little impact driver!! Why would you punish yourself that way?

      I don't know if Chris owns a small impact driver. With small fasteners like that, I also like to feel what's going on with a standard ratchet. Less chance of snapping off a fastener. I do like my Milwaukee cordless ratchets and I probably would have used one of them to speed up the time to remove all the bolts. I would break free the bolt using the cordless ratchet like a standard ratchet and then use the electric assist to spin it out much faster. I definitely agree with Chris not using any electrical assist to install the bolts due to the higher chance of cross-threading or snapping off a bolt.

      @@TimmyTheToolman oh yeah for putting it together 100% but taking all those well lubed bolts OFF? I’d use battery power every day.

      We agree it was a bit on the messy side. That is a great analogy. Working on vehicles is a lot like medical surgery.
