Blasting down the back of the JLR Solihull past Solihull Moor football club and the top entrance to Elmdon Park! Thought I recognised the roads from blasting down there myself. It was alot better and more desolate before Solihull Council let JLR expand on green belt land and build that monstrosity of a bridge! Love the video!!👍👍
Thank you! 😊 it’s changed quite a lot hasn’t it over the last few years, although I think that new roundabout will be quite good fun in the snow if you know what I mean 😉
I passed my test in my grandmother's mini 1000 and I used to embarrass alot of drivers on the twisty roads, you just can't beat a good mini and especially with the right setup, thanks for your video,I really enjoyed it!.
I love reading comments like this, so thank you for taking the time to write it!
What amazes me is how good modern cars are . It's all about memories of your youth. When you drive these old cars you realise how bad they were.
I agree, but there's something about driving something very pure with little to no assistance!
Not bad just better because the more driver input = more reward. If you know you know. You don't get that with any modern car. They all have limits controlled by computer systems and that's it. Anyone can get to it easily.
Very nice build. Love to see old British cars tuned up.
Brings back memories of my modded mini. Love it!
Love reading comments like this! Appreciate it :)
What a pocket rocket. A Series engines are legendary.
Still being raced and developed to this day would you believe!
@@arthurspringthorpe You can do anything to an A-Series engine.
Love that 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻love the way the Speedo just gave up and wobbled about, like who’s gunna be looking at it anyway with that engine sound lol
Appreciate the love! The speedo has a mind of its own to be honest haha
@@arthurspringthorpe the box sounds wicked 👍🏻
That's how we do it 😜👍...all about fun !!!
More video's please. Looks a great Mini!!
They're on the way as soon as I get a gopro! Appreciate the comment :)
A lot of torque steer to sort out!!
An LSD is on the list! (Along with many other go faster bits too haha)
Omg that is jlr entrance Solihull I used to work there what a small world
It is! This was before they changed the road layout slightly
Arthur what pistons you have? i am thinking to put die cast and go for the first rebore allready got the sw8 and 1.5 rocker. mg metro engine build
Hi Theo, from what I remember I have die cast AE/Nural ones! They were the best I could budget for at the time and in fairness they have held up after 4 years. Any die cast ones should be fine unless you're going turbo too - if you've got the budget I'd stretch to good quality ones, I think even Swiftune make die cast ones now.
@@arthurspringthorpe yes from swiftune those die cast. i watched your video over 20 times to hear the sw8 hahaha. turbo not for sure. i have a mk1 so i am keeping it n/a
@@TheoXydias_PerlaCoffeeTrailer haha it's a good cam to be honest! I did put on 1.5 roller rockers on last year and it does seem to have given me a very slight increase in revs up top - I do wonder what the sw10 is like though as the sw8 is still very drivable!
@@arthurspringthorpe i drove a mini once with 286 kent. if the sw10 is similar as they say its pretty good even for road use. check the mk1 on my channel that was listed at bring a trailer. had a 286 with weber 45
Footage of everyone driving to the post office collection counter before it closes...
You could say it's First Class Service...
I like the sound !! nice
Thank you! Sounds a bit better (louder) in person :)
Is the speedo off..were you over something something miles an hour..lol don’t want to get you in trouble👍
The speedo does read around 7mph too fast, but even then...
You’ve got the wrong speedo drive fitted.😂😂
I did actually change it when the engine was built, but it’s still out as you can clearly see haha! Will be replacing it with the modern Smiths equivalent in the future anyway…
That speedo doesn't know whether its coming or going
It's what I say to the police if I ever get stopped ;)!
Not big, not clever, I hope your attitude to driving on a public road has improved in the last three years.
I get where you’re coming from, but the only person I’m putting in danger here is myself. I draw the line if there’s any chance of anyone else getting hurt - there is a difference.
Gotta say I probably drove like this when I was 17 but I learned quickly it's not a good idea, I'm in my 40's now with 3 million+ miles under my belt and I can tell you you literally don't know what's around that corner. So ease off and have a good life.
@@nothingsurprisesmeanymore honestly I only really drive like that if I deem it safe enough. I have to know road, and know I’m only putting myself at risk. I’ve had a few close calls in my younger years, it’s best to leave that type of driving to the track.
In the video you can hear I lift off slightly around the bend, just in case there is a cyclist or something hugging the inside. I can see around it from the drivers side, but not the camera side.
Nice Mini. How tolerable is the straight cut gearbox everyday?
You kind of get used to it! If you like the sound then I think you’d like it. 4th is helical like normal, so it’s quiet when cruising which is perfect!
what compression ratio you using with the SW8? that thing looks like it pulls really well. Got a 1380 going into my frogeye sprite - think i might go for this cam.
I'm running 10:7:1 if I remember correctly! It's a good cam and behaves very well on the road - pulls well to around 6k, although I will be putting on some 1.5 rockers to get a little bit more out of it. Love a frogeye sprite, hope the build goes well!!
@@arthurspringthorpe Cheers - my engine was machined for 10.5:1 for a kent 276 cam, but I have not spec'd the head yet so i have options to increase compression ratio a little further with the chamber size. Might speak to swiftune in the morning, your engine just seems to rev so nicely. Its just a road engine so don't want to over cam it. SW8 looks like a good choice.
@@tanksjago3189 that's funny because mine was originally going to be 10:5:1 too, but when I got the block machined it increased! It runs fine on normal petrol too, but I always run the higher octane stuff. The lightweight flywheel really helps with the revs and I'd definitely get one if you haven't. I'm using the MED one! Not sure how similar the gearing is on a sprite, but in 4th gear with a 3.44 final drive on 12 inch wheels, you can just about cruise at 30mph - with just enough torque to pull away too!
I went for the SW8 in the end, so please a did! Made 105.5bhp on the Dyno…. My frogeye is a little rockship now, compared to what it was. Runs great on a 45 Weber as well (38mm chokes).
WOW
Install LSD?
Not yet! But it’s on the list of things to get :)
Bizarre... the speedometer was strangely inaccurate and the torque steer seemed a little extreme. What was happening?
Wheel spin
What will she rev too with the SW8 cam?
I’d say till around 7k, that’s what I’ve got my redline set at! Cam wakes up around 3-3.5k and will pull hard till around 6.5k. Is easy to drive in traffic too, can just about cruise at 30mph in 4th! Idles around 1-1.1k with a slight lumpy sound. I’m currently using standard A+ sintered rockers but I’m thinking of going to 1.5 rollers to give me more power! :)
Arthur Springthorpe nice one thanks! I've just built one and seems flat but I've only taken it 3k as I'm still running it in
Mat Mk1 hope it goes well! I remember seeing it should give 110bhp with 1.5 rockers on a 1380
