Did Apple just steal the Ai spotlight and become the frontrunner with AI with the approach they are taking? In this video we cover Apple's approach to AI and why we think Apple's AI model will be more successful long-term with the average PC user. We also discuss why Apple's limited AI approach is much better than Microsoft's all-in AI presentation . If you are interested in all the brand new features built into Apple Intelligence on MacOS, iPadOS, iOS, and more then watch this video to find out why we think Apple has the correct direction with AI.

This is about the third video I've seen that says Apple "stole" A.I. Phooey!
Apple has always been fashionably late to the party, showing everyone else how to do it.
The Apple II wasn't the first personal computer. But it was the first really capable personal computer that didn't look out of place in an office.
The iPod wasn't the first music file player and the iTunes Store wasn't the first repository for music files. But they became the most popular of both of these.
The iPhone wasn't the first "smart phone" but it was so much more sophisticated than any other out there on the market, it redefined the term.
The iPad wasn't the first tabled computer, but it quickly became the most popular one because it required less configuration and was easier to use that what was already out there.
Likewise with the Apple Watch. And for that matter Vision Pro.
Apple looks at a market, sees what's out there, and then spends some time working out how to produce something better, more comfortable and easy to use. And recently privacy has become of primary importance. It also makes new technology more comfortable to use.
Steve Jobs said the Macintosh was "the computer for the rest of us." He actually did that with the iPhone.
If you're a techie, anxious to try out the newest thing, not worried about any glitches or other problems along the way, you probably don't want to wait for Apple.
Go ahead! Head out west in your Conestoga wagon and follow your own trail.
Some of the rest of us want to wait for the transcontinental railroad where we can ride in comfort, be served dinner and sleep in a sleeping car. And probably get there faster to boot!
There's nothing wrong with "roughing it," but that's not for everybody.
Agree 💰
AI is scary to customers. Apple understood this before everyone else.
I think you’re diving too deep here. By calling their offering “Apple Intelligence”…and Apple is arguably a market leader.. Apple has claimed the acronym AI and will probably try and trademark it at some point. That’s all I think it means.
That's mostly nonsense, for instance the iPhone couldn't copy and paste, had no apps and no 3g when it was normal at the time.
I'm not sure if you got what I was saying. I mean the snatched it away by the marketing strategy of focusing on smaller amounts of Ai to get people ready for it. They are going to get people to forget the scary Artificial term and go with Apple Intelligence and that will take time and trust. They are a bit behind and it's been documented that they made a decision after one of their head people was using another model and finally said this has to be the future. But yes they have the pull to catch up quickly and they also tend to lag behind to see how things work out. For example they saw how bad Microsoft's Recall feature went and they learn from that .
Another great video. Thanks!
Thanks for watching and the feedback.
If Apple practices what they preach, it is an excellent AI approach.
Also, the iPad calculator note is a great feature. I can see college math, engineering, and economics majors loving that feature. Wish I had that while in college doing MC = MR derivative calculations.
I do like the math feature for sure. I would have used that in college.
Dont stop thinking and using your brain. This is good but dont rely on in for everything.
Yes, AI could do that for sure and I won't how the brain will evolve in 100 years.
Great opinion piece. I agree with you.
Thank you. I know I could get some hate from it but I do think their plan is the correct way to introduce ai.
Love your take. Not sure I completely agree but I get you. Great take!
I try.. hey thanks for watching even if you don't agree.
very inteligente the way you see apple plans
It's just an opinion but who knows at the end of the day. Thanks for watching.
Craig! Give me the scoop, please!!!
Apple's slow walking ai.
Agreed. I decided to wait a bit before I did any purchase and am glad I did. Now I know what's I will be fully prepared $$$❤
Maybe they'll make AI an OS upgrade.
I would wait it out if you have equipment that works good now.
Totally agree. I really appreciate your attention to personal intelligence. I think this was a smart design decision by apple.
Thanks for watching and your comment.
I think you did not understand what Apple presented at WWDC if your takeaway was they were behind Android. Apple is not dependent on Nvidia chips to power their AI! If you get the Beta a LOT of the Ai features are available now! The “Calculator Math in Notes” for example. That was a favorite. Many of the basic Machine Learning features were ALREADY in the devices and apps like photos and email so the additional Apple driven AI components will not be difficult to add. The whole point of the WWDC was for Apple to prove they were NOT behind and can do 90% of those features ON DEVICE or with their OWN cloud server. Apple doesn’t need Nvidia chips with their M series chips! The remaining 10% the users can get from ChatGPT or other incoming LLM’s, possibly Gemini.
That is not what I said at all and it was more behind OpenAi and ChatGPT etc. Yes, I said they do have some things ready but their marketing is getting people ready for when they will drop support of ChatGPT in a year and keep everybody in a safer inside model. That is what they are getting people ready for. The only reason they are using ChatGPT now is because they are not fully ready for 100% of queries.
I would like to see Apple create a Photoshop killer. Not to mention Lightroom, Illustrator, and InDesign.
Yes, but not sure that will happen. Right now they have Keynote and I don't see too much changing there.
They kind of had that at one time. Remember Aperture? Even iPhoto was a decent low level Lightroom (better than Photos at least for photographers).
Yes, Apple did have Aperture, but Adobe was so far ahead that Apple couldn’t compete. After nearly a decade, Apple finally shut down Aperture, the second most popular app after Lightroom. Now, a slew of other companies have entered the market, including Affinity, which was recently acquired by Canva. I doubt Apple will re-enter the professional photo editing segment. However, they will likely incorporate AI enhancements into their consumer-level apps such as iMovie, iPhoto, Apple Notes, and Apple Pages for home publishing, rather than for mass consumerism.
I definitely won’t be upgrading my iPhone 13 Pro this year. Keeping this baby another year until iOS 19. Some AI features won’t be full integrated until later in the fall or beta mode. I want to see how all this plays out the first year.
I agree that it's going to take time and keep the device you have.
@@craigneidelthanks awesome content. Definitely keeping it one more year.
Thanks for the nice words and good luck.
I'm glad you mentioned marketing at the outset because that's ALL that this is. "Apple Intelligence" is going to suck just as much as all other "AI" (which is not really AI) platforms. Hype is all that Apple knows how to do. How's the Vision Pro doing?
They will do it better and more secure than the others for sure but overall I agree I'm not incredibly happy about Ai.
I laughed at the: 👍 just trust us from a Microsoft guy "that looks like Dr Evil"
Funny, he kind of reminds me of him.
Dr. Evil was the CEO of Microsoft lol.
The cloud commute is unique in that what you send to their cloud is not stored.
Yes I listened to the head of Microsoft about AI on a Wall Street journal video and thought Dr. Evil. But I don't like too many CEOs.
With Apple’s model, they can add Google Gemini down the road as well.
I think they will have their own model within a year and then lock others out.
@@craigneidel Maybe. If Apple can cover all bases then it has a clear strategic advantage over the other players.
Google will want Google Gemini to be used by as many people as possible because it will mean more revenue. Apple has 55 to 60% market share in the smartphone market in the US, not having Google Gemini as the default AI option will probably impact Google revenue for this product.
@@craigneidelEU will throw the gauntlet on Apple if they lock everyone out
This sets the stage for Apple avoiding anti competitive practices while simultaneously ensures that Apple users will always be using the Apple ecosystem and not 3rd party AI
Yes the EU might but you know Apple will try. They won't lock them out completely but are conditioning people now to think the outside is bad and the inside (Apple Intelligence) is good. So they will effectively wall it off based on changing the perception that they are much more secure.
@@craigneidel I wonder down the track if users can connect to their specific AI model to Siri/Apple Intelligence?
I worked with one company that has huge specialised field workforce that use iPads in the field. This company has built their own internal AI model using OpenAI. It could be handy for the company to connect their internal AI model to Siri. The Apple AI implementation allows for better options for specialised AI models.
I don’t think Apple is as concerned about locking out the AI competition due to the following reasons:
1. AI on device - it has given everyone a reason to upgrade their devices to the latest version.
2. To keep the EU and US Government off their backs
3. It has created AI ecosystem design that can cover all bases
4. It leave the riskiest AI models for others - People will want to certain AI models that have a huge downside if goes wrong. Apple won’t implement the similar model but through APIs, it can still link to the AI model.
5. Specialised AI models - There industry / company AI models that are too small for Apple worry about, but through APIs it can still integrate with those models.
Apple did something even more amazing. AVG2, which is why games can't be ported to the Mac and why NVIDIA makes so much money along with Microsoft, now converts to run on the M Series with the Game Porting Toolkit 2.0.
Yes, that will be nice also but this video wasn't really about those OS features and kits. It's more about the AI marketing but I do agree with you.
If you include machine learning, apple has plenty of AI. Why do all of the computers now have NPUs included?
They have npu to run llm models , they want to make money with AI.Funny thing Recall can run in any rtx Nvidea, but puting a npu is for make more money , they need to sell
Yes, they do have it for sure but still need a little help. This will change soon and I'm glad they are taking this stepped approach with security first. I think the majority of people fear Ai and this approach will allow them to built trust on their internal systems and once they are ready for everything they will drop ChatGPT. Just my opinion is all.
AI = Apple Intelligence 🧠
Yep, They are trying to rebrand it as Artificial has a terrible image and this is how they are starting to do it.
Exactly. They’ve now claimed the acronym as their IP.
Yes.
It's the Apple way 😁
It can be for 😃
Very interesting the comparison between MS and Apple. I’m biased, but Apple won the first salvo.
The Recall feature was a disaster for Microsoft so I think Apple is taking a bit slower approach.
@@craigneidel Looks like MS back tracked and Recall will be opt in. Damage control?
Yes, Recall may never come out now.
@@craigneidel Good! It was creepy!
@@jimtipton8888 Iit was a bit
I wonder how much openAI had to pay to be default online LLM provider lol
Yeah, but Apple will just use them, learn, and have their own model soon. It's just a stop gap for sure.
@@craigneidel but openAI's tech will continue to evolve too. I expect Apple to continue to partner for openAI and other AI service providers for a long time. especially when they can take money from them to be the default world knowledge LLM model. they may even force openAI to buy Apple Private Cloud Compute servers to work with them.
Time will tell for sure. I truly think Apple will wall it off soon (1 year) but who knows for sure. Thanks for watching.
@@craigneidel cloud is going to be apple's largest revenue stream fairly soon. I fully expect apple to figure out a business model for this. you can see how they are building this they are planning to open it up to developers to build on too. I expect openAI/google/etc to be building on Apple's APCC platform to be able to have access to user data.
Yes, cloud should be one of Apples best revenues in the near future as it is for most other companies now.
APPLE INTELIGENCE= OPEN. AI = Microsoft Copilot ..wow what a trio😊😅
It's coming no matter if we like it or not. But true
Timothy Cook's Intelligence
It's possible
Elon Musk isn't happy about the collaboration with open ai. He's saying that he will ban apple products on his owned premises. Bad blood between him and Sam.
He’s mad because his employees don’t use Grok 😂😂😂😂
@@Madeintheshade65 Musk is just "mad" -- period.
He’s super butt hurt
Such a child
I think he's upset that it was supposed to be open source and now they are using it for crazy profit. At least from what I understood in a musk interview.
Nowadays, with AI, u gotta b really dumb to be caught for plagiarism...my new dilemma is MBP 14 M3 16/512 @$1699 or MBA 15 M3 16/512 @$1499 or MBP 16 M2 16/1tb @$2149.
Only you will know the right one to pick. I love my Air but don't care that much about the better screen. I like more real estate in a slim factor.
@@craigneidel I also prefer a bigger screen with aging eyes but limited ports & antiquated screen resolution on Air is disappointing. They should bring back the 15 inch MBP.
The larger screen is nice for sure and even the 1 inch matters on the screen.
*Funniest thing is it's not even Apple Intelligence, they're using openai's intelligence*
Only for part of it. If you watched video till end I said they are conditioning us that openai is bad and they will transition to their own model as soon as it's ready.
Apples way of saying, your 2 year old Apple stuff is not compatible, so you need to buy new Apple stuff.
That is part of it but it will be like that on the Microsoft side as well.
They are so far doing with ai what Siri did. Show something with potential that every other company was able to beat and they never caught up and surpass everyone else. By next year they’ll probably be some other company with way better tech that does actually useful things.
We will see but I think Apple knows a bit about how to market to the masses as they have massive profit margins. I think security is the #1 thing with AI and if done correctly they could be in the #1 slot soon. I know they have labs around the world working on AI but are just starting with the basics first and by next year will have their larger language model ready.
@@craigneidel If they Integrated hooks into every button, menu, and script in apps would allow AI to understand user actions and automate tasks. This self-learning AI could handle repetitive tasks in Mail and Finder, organizing and sorting intelligently, saving hours of work. Thats a real AI future they need to create. Current AI can draw pictures, but we need it to go further. Without constant innovation, Apple risks falling behind competitors. With a product like Apple Vision, aiming for Jarvis-level AI integration is crucial. Vision OS 2 feels like OS 1.1. Real AI should enable Apple employees to achieve more in less time. We’ll know it’s not a gimmick if Apple’s feature growth accelerates.
I have been reading that Apple is one of the leaders in AI. Time will tell once they come out fully with everything but I feel they are being a bit more careful as they have a lot to lose if done wrong like the RECALL feature from Microsoft.
Its funny how Apple create new names for the same thing , 😅
Yeah but i think it's smart this time as most hate artificial term.
Frankly there wasnt an iota of innovation here
Yes, there wasn't a ton of features but overall I like the limited approach to Ai until it's 100% ready. Microsoft's Recall feature was a disaster for them that nobody wanted or trusted.
"Apple is behind" it's a bit more that the rest are prematurely ON the game. Apple always waits for the tech to mature, learn from mistakes others do and then jump on the bandwagon with polished (most of the times) product and using their genius marketing team they manage always to steal the spot and stay relevant, where others fail. For anyone who has not been following AI (Artificial Intelligence) advancements until this moment will forever think AI means Apple Intelligence.
That is kind of what I said but yes, part of it is planned and using ChatGPT is only temp as they didn't really want to do that. But they are now making sure people feel safe using their internal models and will eventually wall off the outside models in about a a year.
You don’t know who the Microsoft CEO is?
Yes, Satya Narayana Nadella.
Thank you very much for that explanation. What Apple is doing is slowly easing you in and fattening you up for that slaughter in the future.
Funny that could be true.
Well they didn’t
Ok, it's called an opinion piece and you have yours and I have mine. Nobody is 100% right
@@craigneidel have you ever watched the live presentation OpenAI did around a month ago ? Apple are not even close to what ChatGPT 4o is able to do once all the features are rolled out & released … you haven’t even made a video about it, why? because it’s not Apple … “OpenAI is something related to Microsoft, so it’s not interesting” Then Apple finally release their version of AI & even stole it ? 🤣🤣 Give me a break! Where is your co-pilot video ? It does exactly the same if not better, but again it’s Microsoft/Openai so it’s not interesting for Apple boys such as you …
By the way I have 4 Windows laptops now and use them. So you are wrong and didn't get what the video is about. Yes, ChatGPT is ahead and I said that but people don't like the way it's moving. For example the Recall feature on Microsoft was a total disaster for them. Apple is going to start with much smaller things that Ai can help with in everyday life and not trying to create a video of a Monkey on a motorbike. People will eventually understand that it's safer to stay on Apple's Ai then venture out and Apple will eventually have a product (they have the money) that can do everything. So it's a great way to go in my opinion as Ai has so many things that people don't like and they will concentrate on the things people like first.
Recall was copilot and Microsoft but ChatGPT is scary for the average user that isn't into tech like us. I just think Apple is moving at the right speed but I admit they are a bit behind now. But that isn't a bad thing for their massive client base.
