Thank you for this video. My dad, Tom Mackay was a great friend of and fellow drummer with Alex Duthart; he is the third drummer from the left in this video. I remember my dad telling me about this tribute to his friend and how honoured he was to play that day. This is the only video I have of my dad, he died in 1999. I can't stop watching it.
I was at this with my mum. In fact, we took Kit Reynolds down from Invergordon with us. If memory serves my dad was overseas at the time, so couldn't make it. And Sheena I can remember speaking to your dad that day, an absolute gent.
Hi John, thank you for responding. Every time I watch this, I tear up. My dad loved Alex and I remember him talking about Kit too; he loved the pipe band and I even have his Alex Duthart drum sticks and some handwritten music (drum scores) that dad wrote. I have fond memories, as a child, of running around the buses while the drummers and pipers practiced. I am glad you got to meet my dad, he was a kind soul.
