    Recently purchased trunk weatherstrip for my fully restored 64 Impala convertible from Classic Industries. Although it was supposed to be “OEM” fit, the rubber fit great in the channel but was much too high and actually raised the deck lid so much to the point where it not only wouldn’t shut properly but it nearly broke off the key. I even reversed the gasket thinking I installed it wrong. Looking for something with a slightly lower seal or softer rubber compound. Anything you suggest? Been doing restorations for years and have never been fully satisfied with replacement seals and gaskets.

      Hey Steve, we're sorry you're having trouble with your new seal! Sometimes the rubber does take a bit to settle but we can’t speak for their parts. We do think you'd be happy with ours, we have had nothing but good reviews on this part: www.steelerubber.com/trunk-weatherstrip-70-0773-84
      Thank you for watching, let us know if we can help in any way!

      @@SteeleRubberProducts I actually trimmed 1/4” off the bottom of the seal that locks into the channel. Fits much better now

    I am replacing all the weatherstripping in my 67 Impala Convertible. I got this trunk seal and it worked great.
    At the end of this video it says that all the weatherstripping done on this Pontiac Convertible would be posted. Seeing the Convertible weatherstripping done would be very helpful. I cannot find those videos on your channel. Should I be looking somewhere else? Thank you.

      Hey there! Unfortunately, the additional video footage files from this installation were corrupted and we were unable to complete the other install videos. And once the video is uploaded to RUclips, we cannot edit or change it, so we're unable to take out the last part where we recommend watching the other clips.
      We have a list of new videos we want to shoot and convertible weatherstripping is on it! So, hopefully we can have that video for your soon. Thank you so much for watching!!

    Is this a substitute for the GM Cars Trunk and Rear Deck Lid Weatherstrip 'K Type'?

    • @SteeleRubberProducts
      @SteeleRubberProducts  2 года назад

      This is not a reproduction of the K type seal you're referring to. The seal in this video is for the 1960's-80's era GM vehicles and the K type seal was used during the 30's-50's. We don't have a Peel-N-Stick version of that one as of right now but check back periodically because that's something we could potentially add in the future. We've taken many of our most popular trunk weatherstrips and made them Peel-N-Stick to make installation easier for our customers. Thanks for watching!

    Does your cowl have a drain hole where the gasket is placed? My 54 new Yorker does not so just checking if it should. Ty

    • @SteeleRubberProducts
      @SteeleRubberProducts  Год назад

      Hey there, some vehicle designs include a drain hole while some do not. We can't say for certain if your '54 New Yorker should have them, however, if you don't see any holes then there probably wasn't any to begin with. If you're noticing water in that area, it may be something to look into further. We hope this helps. Thank you for watching!

    I have a cut in the weather strp but otherwise perfect all around. Is there so.ething I can use to repair or re-enforce that rip ?

    • @SteeleRubberProducts
      @SteeleRubberProducts  Год назад +1

      Hey there, great question! For a small cut or rip, we'd recommend trying Loctite 495. It's an adhesive designed specifically for rubber products, and it's excellent at bonding rubber to rubber to create a watertight seal. If the rip or cut is old, there's a good chance dirt or debris has made its way into the rip and that may cause the glue to not hold up as it would if you were applying it to a fresh, clean surface.
      When gluing, you don't need an excessive amount and you'll want to work fast because it will start working fairly quickly. Once applied, leave your trunk open for 12-24 hours to let it fully cure and bond together before shutting the trunk again, if possible. Check the seal every month or two after gluing to make sure it's still bonded and the cut hasn't gotten bigger. I will attach a link here to the Loctite 495 on our website: www.steelerubber.com/loctite-super-bonder-495-96-0495-96
