This video will show you how to install the weatherstripping on the trunk of a car. This happens to be a 1970 Chevelle but they are all basically the same.
Beautiful car you have and thank you for the video.I need to put weather stripping on my 63' all original Chevy Nova 4 door it's old I gonna order the weather stripping for the trunk and did not have a clue as to how it's done so thank you I also have to do my 4 doors and windows gonna be a big job..I don't want to sound stupid but I have to ask this question my car has some rust spots but a lot of the paint looks good still I won't be able to paint it for another year or 2 so my question is should I still do all the weather stripping now ? Just to keep the moisture out ?Tks in advanced and God bless 🙏💜
Very good video. One question I have is the rubber has a lip that touches the trunk lid, which way does that lip point toward the trunk or toward the outside.
Watch the video and you will see the rubber goes under the metal lip. Install the seal all the way before you add the sealer. Close the trunk. Then you will know how it fits. Then add the sealer. and install it final. Don't cut the end off until it is totally in, just in case you nee an extra 1/2 inch.
really good video my friend! gotta do this to my old camaro in a couple of days. thanks for taking the time to post this. Utube community comes through again.
Hey dave, i gotta question. Can u look behind the top of your rear bumper down in that crack is a 1 to 1.5 in lip. Does yours have seam sealer, or gasket type seal in that chanel?? Im puting mone back together and ready to hang bumper but memory from 6 yrs ago when i tore it down is vague. Even though i took hundreds of pics, i dont have a clear pic of that chanel across back. Ty for any help
Sorry, I don't remember and I did not save the cans. But I did buy it at O' Reilly's Auto Parts. If you don't have one in your area, they may sell it online.
Hi david i've seen a number of your videos which are great, do you think you could recommend places to buy materials or parts that give you the best and most accurate fit for your job? thanks in advance!!!
@@davidlis6709 I hope so:) Got the some of the weather striping in today. I also watched your headliner youtube. Not sure I'm ready for that. Looks a little harder.
What is the worst thing that can happen? You screw it up and then have to take it to a shop. Watch the video and go and do that section, then move to the next section. Don't do it all at the same time.
Where should I buy the best weather stripping for my 1965 Chevy impala ss? There is all kinds of options even on ebay. They range from 109.00 dollars to 680.00 dollars. Are they all the same or is some better then others?
@@davidlis6709 yeah i picked some up at advance, I didn't realize there was a specific adhesive made just for weather-stripping. Thank you for replying and for the very informative videos! I'll be installing a bow style headliner in a 66 tempest I just bought!
I bought my at O Reilly's Auto Parts but Auto Zone, and others sell the same thing. There were 2 different colors with 2 different shades. You will have to ask because it is hard to find and some stores have it locked up. It comes in a spray can and it it easy to do.
Sorry about my other post, for some reason it didn't show the whole video. Great instructions and very thorough.
yes it does look easy. you did a good job explaining. thx for the videos keep em coming David
That is why I make these, it is a lot easier after watching someone do it. Have a nice day.
Thanks for the vid....replacing my trunk weatherstripping on my 64 Chevelle this weekend!

So you want to paint it in a few years - I would wait and do it after painting so you only have to do it once. Just my 2 cents.

Good detailed video, also what did you use to spray the inside floors of the trunk with?
Local auto parts store. They have a few different colors. It took 2 cans.
Appreciate it, but what's the name of the product?

If not they could tell you where to go
Apply the glue to the car and the weatherstripping, wait for it to get tacky, then install.
I great appreciate your helpful videos. I am working on a 69 Skylark.
You can enjoy it after all the work is done. I need to start driving my Chevelle more. Come spring time.

I went to O' Reillys Auto Parts, Black silicone. They all have it, all the same stuff. I can not remember how much I paid but it was under $20.
Very helpful video🏋️♀️👏👌🙏💪Thank you
Long life for you 😉
You are welcome. Glad it helped you
what adhesive did you use?? I'm going to be replacing seals on my 66 tempest this weekend.
I purchased it from O Reilly's Auto Parts. Most auto parts stores have them, just a different name.

Sweet, even my exact car! Thanks man
Just did mine hope it seals ok
Yes it will. But the sealant can make a mess_
I have the rubber foam stuff the previous owner put on but he glued it in about 2 or 3 spots so major leaking, its a 1970 bel air
Buy a new one from National Parts Depot or Original Pats Group
does it have to have silicone
I would recommend it because it seals it in place. How is is going to stay in place without some kind of glue?
I feel what you are saying. I just put my weather strip on it take it down to make it fit till I fix the metal
Nice work ...
Thanks. Have to be careful or it could get messy
Sometimes you have to put a finger in it. Its all manuel here. Why else did we have full service. They respected the at home mechanic
I tell people, if you don't want to get a little dirty, don't work on cars. Pay someone to do it.
Try using a smaller rag next time.
Never think of it.
old timer, I do not need gloves. I am same way.
I can not answer that question. I usually wash off my hands in gasoline. It works great.
