Even as an SNES kid growing up, I was mesmerized by my friend's awesome side scrolling beat em' up, which I eventually realized was SOR2. Just the creativity of the environments, characters, music.. just a masterpiece of a game! This new installment looks incredible.. I was 10 by the time SOR came out but I didn’t own a *Sega console. Older kids from parents who were close friends with mine did. I’d spend hours playing at their house on the occasional reunions. They being older and more skilled would help me get through the levels and finally beat the game. Such wonderful memories that made me purchase a used Megadrive, a 20’ Sony PVM monitor and a copy of this game almost 25 years later just to revive it again on a glorius full Scan-lined Trinitron experience! * I was one of those rare kids that got an Atari Lynx instead. God I feel old!
Anyone who thought the animation style was bad, open themselves up to what they think is good style. Considering how there are few hardcore sprite artists out there ahd the labour involved to make great sprite animation, they made a great compromise working within a more fluid 2d animation aesthetic. Everything looks great looks consistent as well as fluid.
CAN'T WAIT for this to come out. I pre-ordered the Classic Edition through Limited Run Games. First time ever ordering from Limited Run Games because I don't see any other retailer prepping this on their pre-orders. Has anyone else ordered from Limited Run in the past? How's their service, and how long does it take to receive the games after they have been officially released? Thanks for sharing RGT 85. :D
The game is amazing in the fact that it stays true to the retro style and yet delivers more in terms of game play. I do like the extra characters, but would have enjoyed them in the new art format (But who knows...could be part of the DLC content if they decide to expand on it.). My negatives are that you can only do 4 players locally and not online. Yet, I hope there will be DLC expansions for this game and reprises such as Alien Storm and or Golden Axe. Overall, I love this throwback and it is tough even on normal which is how I expect a game such as this to be done.
Hey RGT 85,I played “Streets of rage”and love the music in perticaler.Did you neu that before “Street of rage 4”A group of people who loved the series so much developed “Street of Rage Remake”on pc.Because it was taking so long for “Sega” to bring “Streets of Rage”back and the demand from the fans was there! This game had all the characters from 1,2 and 3,remixes of the music and much more.Unfortanetly “Sega” took it down instead of working together like with “Sonic Mania”.People on RUclips that played it called a labor of love. There’s even another intresting beat em up Recently released “The take Over”on Pc a lot of simularities with “Streets of rage” and “Raging Justice”.Maybe Nice after “Streets of rage 4” to play “The Take over”on pc.Have a Nice day dude
Bought this game today. Overall, I enjoy it. It is sadly a short game. You can finish in +/- 2 hours I highly recommend retro music over default. I like the retro characters. I did wish it was longer and had more content for $25.
You do know it's a beat em up right? Games like that don't need to be 4+ hours. Making a game of this genre super long would make the game more tedious. The replay value is what makes this game shine!
So happy that this game was a success! I was worried about it during development for a bit there. But nope... they pulled of a instant classic! The future of SoR and indeed beat-em-ups is very bright. It's about time! Because once they took the legs out from Scott Pilgrim it was looking grim again. We had YEARS of really no decent beat-em-ups to speak of, and now both SoR4 is out and Scott Pilgrim is back!
80s-90s kids: Cool, we actually get stuff for our high scores, like old games. The kids today: Why I gotta play the whole game to get skins, where's the in-game shop? Why can't we buy them? I prob wont be grabbing this right now, but it is cool to see they were so dedicated to making a modern-looking, but classic-feeling brawler game.
I bought the switch and PS4 version , and after hearing your review . I’m happy I didn’t mess up. It’s just exactly what I though , a great game for a comeback kind of like sonic mania , , not exactly perfect but deff a game worth owning and playing . For $70 for both versions from LRG and I’m a die hard Sega / 2d retro fan It’s worth it , not a penny more , would of been more solid tho both physicals for $60 with some of its drawbacks mentioned
Great review, I'm gonna buy this.. I can't help but feel like we are watching RGT85 grow up before our eyes. I'm loving the new layout format you've been doing. A+
Pre-ordered SOR4 from Limited Run the moment it was announced physically. So many years in the making, but thankfully it's worth the wait. Long Live Streets of Rage!!
The game visually looks ok but instead of giving us those 16-bit sprites for different characters they should've made a whole 16-bit mode so that the game can be entirely played in 16-bit as a separate mode!
The 16 bit versions are on the genesis collection though. It looks as though this is close enough that nobody will be like "I wish this was done in true 16bit".
@@deanthorpe1684 That's why I said make it a separate mode in the game! That 16-bit mode would have given it more of a Sonic Mania feel to it. You see how well Sonic Mania did! They didn't modernize those graphics they made it look like the 16 bit originals and look at how well it did. The new graphics look fine, but there's nothing wrong with having options for players and especially fans of the original series like me and many others. I don't own that Genesis collection but I still have my original cartridges from the 90's and can still play them on origin hardware as well as the ROMs which I added to my Genesis mini when I modded it.
It's bonkers that this is on Game Pass! Game Pass has been one of the best subscription services I've ever signed up for, hands down. Tip o the cap to Microsoft.
Most enemies move faster than the Main characters, so a lack of a Dodge or counter button sucks. jump attack enemies can attack at an angle and they can also jump as far or as short as they need to. So it's hard to avoid getting hit. Also, most attacks send players flyings across the screen. This makes it annoying when trying to move forward. But once you get use to it, you can work with it. It's a Great addition to the series none the less.

Axel looks like Sam the Sheepdog now lol.
Poor Axel. You can't even see his mouth anymore. 😆
Looks like a blonde bearded ryu
Anyone who thought the animation style was bad, open themselves up to what they think is good style. Considering how there are few hardcore sprite artists out there ahd the labour involved to make great sprite animation, they made a great compromise working within a more fluid 2d animation aesthetic. Everything looks great looks consistent as well as fluid.
Why do people want streets of rage 4 without roo?
CAN'T WAIT for this to come out. I pre-ordered the Classic Edition through Limited Run Games. First time ever ordering from Limited Run Games because I don't see any other retailer prepping this on their pre-orders. Has anyone else ordered from Limited Run in the past? How's their service, and how long does it take to receive the games after they have been officially released?
Thanks for sharing RGT 85. :D
If you wanna play the game this year. I’d suggest also buying digitally. Or you’ll be waiting a while.
@@zellycummings6328 awh, really? Do Limited Run Games really take that long to ship out their merch?
Thanks for the heads up. 👍
12 hours left until we are ready to play
The game is amazing in the fact that it stays true to the retro style and yet delivers more in terms of game play. I do like the extra characters, but would have enjoyed them in the new art format (But who knows...could be part of the DLC content if they decide to expand on it.). My negatives are that you can only do 4 players locally and not online. Yet, I hope there will be DLC expansions for this game and reprises such as Alien Storm and or Golden Axe. Overall, I love this throwback and it is tough even on normal which is how I expect a game such as this to be done.
The best Streets of Rage games = 3D version for the 3DS.
Streets of rage 2 on genesis
Streets of Rage 3 is my favorite. Not the greatest music. But gameplay is fantastic.
7:38 Did they pretty much rip this segment from the Bomber Games remake?
I said the same thing when i saw that
I'll buy it on Steam on weekend. Love Streets Of Rage 2.
It should be a game that cost $5 or $10 bucks, is too short and it doesnt justify that can be completely finished in a few days
What would be funny is if you are able to unlock Sonic or other Sega characters.
Um, how does it compare to the premier Beat 'em up game: Shaq Fu
Can’t wait till I get my switch version front limited run games
Grew up on streets of rage. Fighting force was probably my fav game on ps1. So glad you mentioned it and brought back so many good memories.
how DARE you use the words cash grab in the same breath as Streets of Rage 4? This is probably the biggest labor of love in gaming in modern times.
Oh I agree. It's also one of the best comebacks in gaming history.
C’mon man where’s the super double dragon remake??
When is the physical copy released from limited run?
It already did a month ago
Finally, a non-SJW female lead character and no undershirt or jeans obscuring any sense of sexuality (*cough RE3R*).
Crybaby
@@skybite Better than being apathetic.
Cash grab snoozefest aimed for children. Music is so anti hype its not even funny. Had to chug a redbull just to stay awake.
All these throwbacks with extra modes, in game unlockables, and couch co-op makes me excited for the Battletoads remake
This game is dooope .. most definitely worth the money
Definitely getting this. I used to like playing the 1st on the Sega genesis back in the 90s.
Long Live Streets of Rage!!
so many years and the refined combat is still just so damn fun! If you are an SOR fan, you won't be disappointed, and the art style will grow on you.
@Mike UK How many years have they been working on this game? How many delays has this game had? I'm not buying that excuse.
It's bonkers that this is on Game Pass! Game Pass has been one of the best subscription services I've ever signed up for, hands down. Tip o the cap to Microsoft.
If you have an Xbox, it's a no brainer. I still haven't played RDR2 yet and I hear that's headed it's way.
the defensive special is the most important of all for surviving higher difficulty, making a perfect run and/or high combos ;)
As a DoorDash driver, I thank you for shouting out the company that I work with to keep money in my pockets. 👍
Those graphics are not from a flash game
This looks far from a Flash game. Flash characters look like puppets with separate parts. This is actually hand drawn.
Great review bro! I preordered the physical copy for the Switch from Limited Run too!
Always good and informative videos
Most enemies move faster than the Main characters, so a lack of a Dodge or counter button sucks. jump attack enemies can attack at an angle and they can also jump as far or as short as they need to. So it's hard to avoid getting hit. Also, most attacks send players flyings across the screen. This makes it annoying when trying to move forward. But once you get use to it, you can work with it. It's a Great addition to the series none the less.
