It is a very fun game, but really it is not as good as SoR4. I think Dotemu could’ve done a better job. A lot of fun and 6 player coop is amazing, but still, the game could feel better, just not as good as SoR4 unfortunately.
This game reminds me of the original TMNT arcade game from the early 90s! SUPER nostalgic for me. My grandma used to take me to the arcade and stand there for hours while I played. Love you Maw.

See, this is when a developer really shows love, care, and dedication to a product. I 100% agree that this is the best beat-em-up game of all time. Such polish and care from day 1 truly shows that the delay they had was freaking worth it! The level of quality is just outstanding, from visuals, to audio, to gameplay, everything was just absolutely fantastic! As an old school player of the old games, I can say they did it justice.

For anyone struggling with the 245 hit challenge, take Donatello to the Rooftop level, there’s a few places where he can dish out the hits, but especially the power pizza power move spam on the elevator. Stand center and just a little downward and you’ll be bouncing foot soldiers like they’re made of rubber!
Playing this game gave me the same exact feeling Sonic Mania did. That , "we've waited for 25-30 years for something like this and for once we didn't get let down" feeling. It's exactly what I wanted it to be.
@@criticalhex I can't blame Dotemu for reaching out to get him to work on the game after he got Sonic Mania so right... It was a really smart move for them to make...
No way, RGT! They made this game just for me! It's absolutely brilliant and I agree completely; incredible game! It's obviously a passion project made by fans and it shows. I wish I was in a position to get the collector's edition, but I'm satisfied with having a physical copy. There are also some interesting characters supposedly in the game somewhere when I looked up the cast for the game. Really looking forward to finding those characters!
Joy Masher has already made the perfect modern Contra game with "Blazing Chrome". You should check that game out! Another good Contra clone by a different dev is "Super Cyborg".
This is the kind of love the TMNT deserve. They really are cultural icons and some of the most notable heroes of the past fifty years. I've never stopped loving them and I'm hyped for this! Going to pick it up this weekend!
If you're a kid from the late 80s/early 90s then this is the 💎💎💎Holy Grail💎💎💎 of TMNT video games. Once you see it you instantly realize something special has happened. It's almost as if I went back in time to 1992 and found out SNK was making their version of TMNT for their Neo Geo AES hardware. The BIGGER, BADDER, BETTER slogan fits this instant classic perfectly. This really is a special game that appears to have nothing left out of it and i'm just glad i'm still alive today to have witnessed this beloved Masterpiece. This is a must have for any generation past, present, and future. I Promise You That!!!!! 💯 out of 💯 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💪😎💪👍😁👌
I’m so happy with how this game turned out. I’ve gone back to Turtles in Time a lot over the years, and Shredder’s Revenge feels like a true sequel. The gameplay is excellent, and jumping into it was like riding a bike.
Best Beat Em Up game of all time is Streets of Rage 4. The SOR dlc puts it over the top. As a party game TMNT is of course way better but the single player content in SOR4 is still supreme with it's unbeatable character roster featuring all the versions of the characters from SOR1 to 4.
You're the third youtuber I've seen say it's the perfect brawler game and I couldn't agree more. I stayed away from the reviews till I could play it and I played it from 8am yesterday to about 1am today. The only thing that could expound on this would be a Mighty Mutanimals DLC where the Mutanimals have to rescue the turtles. That would be fantastic.
I just picked up a Nintendo Switch for the first time. Just subbed to your channel to learn about what games to play. Thanks for helping this old Veteran.
I too, bought the Switch version. I've ran into quite a few bugs, but still absolutely love it. I jumped right into a full 6 player story mode and played all the way through on my first sitting. Was a great time. I sure hope they do fix the bugs, though.
When I booted the game up and the intro theme song started, I got flashbacks to watching the cartoon in the 80s. And when the game started I was hooked. I absolutely love this game. I also like letting the theme song roll when I start up the game because it makes me feel like I'm actually "playing" an episode of the cartoon. Amazing work by the team who made this.
I’m on level 7 and I’m having a blast playing it. Definitely very retro feeling and not super challenging so kids can enjoy it as well. I’ve been playing as Donatello
Dude. You nailed it. I said the same thing in my head when the Wu song came on at the end. "Did you make this for me?" And what's great is they did, right? They knew they were making the perfect game for all of us. Great review!
Played it with a friend last night. When we beat story mode, I hadn't even noticed that almost 3 hours had gone by. As someone used to beating Turtles in Time in about half an hour, I was really impressed with the game's length and I was having so much fun I didn't notice how much time flew by. One thing I really love about the game is how well you can combo the enemies. Was a blast being able to hit them while they're in the air or bouncing off the ground. I got some pretty sick combos a few times that made me feel like I was playing a traditional fighting game or Smash Bros. And I really like the little references to Turtles in Time that are thrown in. All the new mechanics added a lot of fun to the gameplay as well. I love how you can revive your teammate and charge your special meter for a flashy, powerful attack. Still trying to get used to using the dodge rolls and other techniques that I always forget as soon as I start playing. The ONLY negative about the game, for me, is the music. I'm sure a lot of people love it and that's fine, but for me, the music in this game was kind of just background noise. None of the tunes (other than the one that kind of sounds like Mute City) really jumped out at me. The Turtles in Time soundtrack is one of my absolute favorites from any video game. There's not a single level theme in that game that I don't love. And while I don't necessarily hate any of the music in Shredder's Revenge, it just didn't feel as banging and unique to me. Maybe on subsequent play throughs the music will jump out at me a little more now that I'm not overwhelmed by the newness of every level.
This game is freakin' awesome. They did a great job keeping the tone of the originals while freshening it up for the modern day. Easily the best beat em up of all time, and the best Turtles game so far imo. My only tiny, minor quibble of a pointless complaint is that Mikey doesn't have two nunchucks anymore lol
You’re spot on, it’s nostalgia all the way! The game takes me back to the arcade version, where I would continuously shell out quarters to keep playing. I love the fact that it looks like an old school NES game and LOVE the original voices. I played it on Gamepass, but would love to have it on the Switch.
Used to play the arcade game from time to time with me mates after driving to The Point cinema(it's a pyramid) in Milton Keynes, pumping a few squid in the slot waiting for the movie playing 4 player was the boss back in the day, even if there was just me and one mate there would always be plenty others to join the co-op goodness. Fun times.
If they added some decent CRT scan line options, this game would be PERFECT. Very impressed so far. I intended to play this for an hour after work, and 4 hours later I had to pry myself away from my controller.
@@javonjames4573 I happen to think that the slowdowns are very reminiscent of the types of slowdown Turtles in Time had on the SNES. Doesn’t bother me too much but would be cool if fixed.
YES! It's a short and tight game... but I think that's a bonus for it! It's incredibly fun to play with random people online! NOSTALGIA is a GIFT for fans.. and it's such a treat for sure!
For the OLED you guys need to change the video settings on the Switch from Vivid to Standard because the difference is night and day. Vivid looks way too saturated.
It's very easy to replay the intro song. Go back to home screen (the one with Press any button), in a minute or so, the intro plays again. No need to restart the game.
I've had two glitches so far. One of the foot soldiers on the last level just stood there after being defeated. On my second play through Rocksteady walked off the screen leaving us unable to progress short if restarting the level. We were playing the Xbox version.
Did my first playthrough on story mode yesterday and it's definitely a great game. Can't wait to level up the other characters and try the other modes. If we do get DLC, it would be fun to get some villain based levels where they capture the NPCs, setting up their part in the story.
This game is fantastic, I pre-ordered the digital Switch version and have enjoyed my experience with the game. I already beat the game twice (once with Raphael and once with Casey Jones,) working on beating the game with every character to see all the different endings. I got all the collectible items for the side characters. I've not had one single issue with the game that others seem to be having, haven't tried the online portion yet though. I am definitely going to double dip at some point and get this on ps4, it's definitely worth the money.
Man with this and the cowabunga collection coming! There's only one thing to say about all this TMNT goodness..... MAN I LOVE BEING A TURTLE!!!!! COWABUNGA!!!!!! 💙❤️💜🧡✌🏼😉 🐢🐢🐢🐢
I downloaded this game a few weeks ago, and I LOVE IT!!!!!! Takes me back to the original arcade game from the late 1980's, early 1990's. Stays true to the original source materials, but with some new twists.
I've played the first 5 levels so far and the game is a lot of fun; looking forward to playing more over the weekend. Also, IMO, Beat 'Em Ups evolved into what we know as Hack 'N Slash games today. Think about it; its the same concept. In both variants, you play as one character fighting multiple enemies on the screen at a fast pace. Playing an old school Beat 'Em Up is simply playing the genre back at its roots.
Really love the game. Although, the online a little glitchy. Sometimes the characters wouldn't show up, the game would crash, or the enemys are frozen in place. Other than that the game's amazing.
I used to drop Quarters into the Arcade game when I was a kid in the late 80's now if only someone will do Wrestlefest similar to this, I tried the first level on GamePass after work yesterday. Great job devs! thanks for the nostalgic trip.
The game has a ton of online multiplayer connectivity issues on switch on top of a very janky invitation system. The solo and couch co-op is fantastic but they need to fix the online problems before it can be game of the year imo... it is an amazing game overall, a ton of detail and passion went into the project but just be aware that the online is still far far from perfect or even acceptable for switch at this point in time. Cowabunga dudes!
Wait.. so what was the *REAL TRUTH* ? This just felt like another review that praises how good the game is. That title seems like it was meant to just attract people to the video.... 🙄
I played this last week and honestly I am enjoying this. I saw it was Dotemu , and knew it was gonna be a gem, especially with the job they did with SOR4 . Now I’ve been playing it with my son, and it’s great to be able to use this and get him excited about TMNT. He is 5
This is how imagined the Battletoads reboot to be. It turned out okay, but I would like to see this group handle more beatem ups. Kind of curious if they could do more Konami if they allowed. Imagine this group doing Contra, Gradious, or even dare I say it Castlevania. Either way they paid proper homage to TMNT while still evolving the game.
Love this game. The soundtrack was awesome! I’ve actually experienced some hiccups and glitches. Characters would freeze for a few seconds and just glitch into whatever move you were trying to do. Weird. But not a deal breaker.
The TMNT Shredder's Revenge is a awesome game to play with friends online, its great to see this arcade game back on Nintendo Switch it brings back memories 😀
I’m 41. Probably played Turtles in Time the most along with the other original titles. Just was in the basement playing Shredders Revenge with my 6 and 12 year old boys. Good fun!
It's good, but we found some SYNC issues with some side by side comparisons live with online play. Sometimes the turtles are facing the wrong way on high fives, one stage got jammed up when there was a jump done at one of the escilators obstical breaks and the Fade To Black didn't activate for me like it did my friend and so it just scrolled to the side for me. I was falling thrugh the screen time and time again as the frame rate tanked for my friend VydiaJames. It's certainly not perfect, server issues very much occur, but it's indeed pretty damn good. I wish they did a bit more to explain how the TEAM UP attacks worked too like how to toss your friends. We did it by accident and then couldn't figure out how to do it again. I also occasionally did a kind of downward heel kick with Michelangelo, and not the grab attack, that would send a guy flying hard and far. it was cool but it seemed to just activate on it's own at random. Seemed to be no real way to control when it came out or not. I myself obviously have more to learn about the game, particularly the team up attacks, its' decent, but I'll be looking forward to seeing it refine it's self just a little more. Still it was grand co op fun, and the way it set's it's self up for ease of access to get into online games alone was done well. I hope they wind up making updated missions. I've often talked about how some beat em up games coudl easily do some monthly bonus mission downloads to change up what happens in what stage with just a bit of text updates for side missions to take place in town. We'll see how it progresses. I'm quite interested in seeing where it could go.
I give this game a 95/100 For me this game is perfect, good controls, nice graphics, at the beginning I didn’t liked all the soundtrack, but after playing it a little more I got more into the music and now I like most of the tracks. I only have 2 complaints from the game: -The taunt button fills one bar of the special attack, the problem with this is that you do it any moment you want, this breaks a little bit the game, because in multiplayer everybody keeps doing the special, so I think it would be better if you can do only around 5 taunts to refill your special bar, then if you do it again it will consume one square of lifebar, this would make more balanced the game. Like in old arcade games like in xmen you get 2 mutant attacks, if you use any more times it consumes your energy, this is more fair. -My second complain are the last 4 bosses, this should be the most coolest fights, but I keep charging my special and the boss didnt walk to attack me, he just keep standing in the center, so it was little bit easy to bit him using the special, also the final enemy, was hard at the beginning, but after fighting for a while you get to learn his attack pattern and becomes super easy enemy, making a little disappointing the final battle. But everything else is just perfect. Good work on the review, I really agree with the things you said, this game was completely made for old fans, this includes myself!
Could not agree more. This game is almost perfect... with the exception of that taunt button. The taunt button is so easy to utilize and makes boss battles way too easy. I kind of wish they would patch this feature out of the game. My son (who is 8) actually said halfway through our first playthrough that the taunt button feels like cheating. So we made a rule that you couldn’t use it and only could use the special move when you earned it through combos. It made the gameplay so much more fun.
@@happyhollandays This is super good advice, after finishing everything inside the game, this game will become like casual arcade that sometimes I will return for a quick play, at this moment I will do this of not using the taunt button. So it is more fun the game. Like you are saying about patching the game, maybe in the options, putting an option ulimited use on/off, so this would make the online games more interesting.
I bought this game STAT when it dropped. I LOVED the arcade game back in the day. Donatello was my boy. Can't wait to play! I bought the digital version but after your review, I think I may have to get the physical edition as a collectors piece. Thanks for the great video man!
When I saw the trailer I could tell right away that this had the makings of a GOAT in the beat-em-up genre. The 90s Konami beat-em-ups (Simpsons, TMNT, Marvel's X-men and Avengers) had a fun formula -- familiar, beloved characters, great sprites and animations, and multi-player collaboration. This new game looks like it took a cue from those games, and went beyond, with even more combat moves, smoother animations, and less repetitive play and deeper mechanics.
This game brings me back to the glory days of the TMNT Arcade games but better! I loved the intro too with the original music! Just loving everything about this game!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtles in Time Reshelled was what ruined people's childhoods. I am looking forward to picking up the physical copy of Shredder's Revenge this summer.
6:10 the ability to save teammates on their way out is a recreation of the bonding opportunity created by friends having pocketfuls of quarters ready to keep you in the game because that's what you do.
The game looked so cool from the first time they announced it. I really want sure if it would be all that fun solo but I was totally wrong. I bought just thinking if I didn't enjoy it at least I gave some support to a gaming company that loves the turtles as much as I do. First play through I'm doing with Mikey. I probably will do a play through will all considering it doesn't take all that long to beat. Next character will be Casey Jones. This game bring me right back to my childhood and just remembering buying those 80s action figures just freaking awesome.
I absolutely love the game. Big fan of tmnt..the original arcade games and beat em ups in general. So to get a quality title like shredders revenge is awesome. Graphics..gameplay.. soundtrack..fan service..attention to detail. Hands down the best tmnt beat em up.
I have a 6yo and 4yo niece and nephew and they LOVE the game, the theme song, the overworld, all the characters, the levels, the gags, and me and my brother get that plus the all the nostalgia from the time we played turtles in time on the snes. 10/10

“One of the greatest most powerful drugs that you can get”…?? Nostalgia…. For a split second I put my Popeyes down ,turned my head ever so slightly to the left so that my good ear ( the right one) could gather the incoming information perfectly… nostalgia… damn
This game takes me straight back to the arcade. I am so glad they kept the throw feature. Final Fight might not have been remastered through those arcade games on consoles but that is still my favorite. I finally picked up Diablo 2 Ressurected and it made me so mad with the crap you had to go through in order to get a solo campaign going. Once I got it going and started playing the original original I thought it was good. Just figured I would say.
I haven’t played this game yet but I remember going to my local arcade and playing this as a kid now at 36 I see it and it brings me back to how much fun and how much I miss going to that arcade.
I played this game for a very short while...dont' really have time to invest Heavily into it like I have the Witcher 3 (which I'm playing right now) and Smash Ultimate, but when I'm not working so much and I can chill I'll play this game a lot more. I'm a HUGE fan of Online Co-Op games especially if it's an adventure/rpg'ish kind of thing (Nine Parchments)...so this game will due. Glad to see ya happy RGT 85 :-)
It has soo much potential with more playable characters to be added. I love the different fight/play style of each character. The longevity and replay value is great now, but could be through the roof with future playable characters.
The fact they got the original voice actors from the show makes me feel like im 8 years old again! OG Turtle 🐢 power for life! And now all 4 voice actors are coming to Emerald City ComicCon! !
The ninja turtles arcade game on NES was one of my first favorite games. Before I could walk or talk, I could crawl and turn on the nintendo and tv and just play the game. I... am... beyond excited for this game.
Nostalgia - its delicate, but potent. Teddy told me that in Greek nostalgia literally means “the pain from an old wound.” It’s a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone. This device isn’t a spaceship, it’s a time machine. It goes backwards, and forwards… it takes us to a place where we ache to go again. It’s not called the wheel, it’s called the carousel. It let’s us travel the way a child travels - around and around, and back home again, to a place where we know are loved. Don Draper
This game is actually really top tier and I’m loving the heck out of it. This one here seems so unique and heart and passion put into it. They will definitely bring more dlc and content with this. It’s fun with 6 players to..
The best beat ‘em up for me has long been Castle Crashers. If this game can bring me back for 10 years, it’ll be up there. CC has so much to unlock, so many characters, it’s just a masterpiece.

I love this game, as I predicted I would. The arcade mode is the best though, especially if you have 4 players or more. It gets absolutely insane and comical
This game is something that comes along once in a blue moon it captures the essence of what made the classic arcade beat ‘em up so fun and great and the fact that they took there time and did it right got even the original voice actors and the whole vibe of the overall game takes me back to those days of staying up late with your buddies eating pizza drinking soda and playing thru the original game

Playing this game gave me the same exact feeling Sonic Mania did. That , "we've waited for 25-30 years for something like this and for once we didn't get let down" feeling. It's exactly what I wanted it to be.
I couldn't have said it better myself.👍😎👌
Exactly
Yeap! Pretty much! Sonic Mania came and dethroned S3&K as my favorite Sonic game! Now Shredders Revenge did the same with Hyperstone Heist!
Crazy that both sonic mania and this have Tee Lopez on the OST
@@criticalhex I can't blame Dotemu for reaching out to get him to work on the game after he got Sonic Mania so right... It was a really smart move for them to make...
What I love about the game is that you can feel the love for the franchise in it. That and it is a really solid beatem-up.
Shredder’s revenge along with Kirby and the forgotten lands are easily my games of the year so far

Please give this studio license to make Contra and Castlevania game. Wouldn't mind a Justice League beat-em-up game too.
Joy Masher has already made the perfect modern Contra game with "Blazing Chrome". You should check that game out!
Another good Contra clone by a different dev is "Super Cyborg".
@@gamephreak5 great . I will check them out.
What surprised me the most about this game is the price point like $21
This is the kind of love the TMNT deserve.

It's an amazing game and great price and you get the entire game and characters not like Nintendo giving Mario strikers incomplete for 60 dollars.
This is leeeeeeeaaaaguesss better than Mario Strikers in my opinion and I'm a die hard Mario fan so yeah. Really enjoyed this game.
But he's still here watching the video 😂😂
You’re spot on, it’s nostalgia all the way! The game takes me back to the arcade version, where I would continuously shell out quarters to keep playing. I love the fact that it looks like an old school NES game and LOVE the original voices. I played it on Gamepass, but would love to have it on the Switch.
@@Ihatevideogames334 nobody cares. Die mad about it.
You mean SNES….. the NES doesn’t look nearly as clean
Fun times.
Nostalgia really is a thing for sure. I love the ezio trilogy so whenever a game like syndicate or even black flag had a ezio suit it just felt good.
This is my first TMNT game ever and I love it I beat it last night with a friend and now we are going for the trophies 🏆
The only flaw for me is, April O'Neal fighting
100% agree with this.
If they added some decent CRT scan line options, this game would be PERFECT. Very impressed so far. I intended to play this for an hour after work, and 4 hours later I had to pry myself away from my controller.
I hope they fix the slow downs in the game other than that game is awesome👍
DotEmu, please do X-men next 🙏
Been waiting for your take on this masterpiece, my man
I've had two glitches so far. One of the foot soldiers on the last level just stood there after being defeated. On my second play through Rocksteady walked off the screen leaving us unable to progress short if restarting the level. We were playing the Xbox version.
Same glitches on Switch. Its funny to me, like are we all playing a ROM hack?
Did my first playthrough on story mode yesterday and it's definitely a great game. Can't wait to level up the other characters and try the other modes. If we do get DLC, it would be fun to get some villain based levels where they capture the NPCs, setting up their part in the story.
We unlocked battletoads. I wonder if they’ll be playable

Wikipedia refers to Hack and Slash as a sub-genre of Beat Em Up, they just focus on melee weapons more.
@@chrisrichfield8906 Nice. I agree with Wikipedia then.
One thing I wouldve loved was some cutscenes done like the intro throughout the game. Other than that the game is flawless
Really love the game. Although, the online a little glitchy. Sometimes the characters wouldn't show up, the game would crash, or the enemys are frozen in place. Other than that the game's amazing.
That's your McDonald's Wi-Fi. My online experience was as smooth as butter. No glitches.

No problems on PS5. Switch is known to be trash online tho, not really a shredders revenge issue

I played this last week and honestly I am enjoying this. I saw it was Dotemu , and knew it was gonna be a gem, especially with the job they did with SOR4 . Now I’ve been playing it with my son, and it’s great to be able to use this and get him excited about TMNT. He is 5
love this game. 1gb download on Gamepass and me and 3 buddies are having a blast.... The online is kinda buggy tho on xbox
I’m double dipping on this game. I grabbed it digitally and I’ll be picking up a physical copy for the Switch.
My game of the year. Perfection
The 6 player couch coop was a pleasant surprise. The whole family is playing 🙂👍

I’m 41. Probably played Turtles in Time the most along with the other original titles. Just was in the basement playing Shredders Revenge with my 6 and 12 year old boys. Good fun!
Yo.
What's crackin homie!
I give this game a 95/100
For me this game is perfect, good controls, nice graphics, at the beginning I didn’t liked all the soundtrack, but after playing it a little more I got more into the music and now I like most of the tracks. I only have 2 complaints from the game:
-The taunt button fills one bar of the special attack, the problem with this is that you do it any moment you want, this breaks a little bit the game, because in multiplayer everybody keeps doing the special, so I think it would be better if you can do only around 5 taunts to refill your special bar, then if you do it again it will consume one square of lifebar, this would make more balanced the game.
I love that Michelangelo is called “Mikey” in the game. So much nostalgia here
I absolutely love the game.
They definitely need to do some DLC for this game or just make a sequel. We need more TMNT from the devs.
Haven't played this game yet, but Ninja Turtles for NES was the first game that my family ever bought me. Other than the obligatory Super Mario/Duck Hunt game. Thanks for always being there for your fansA
Played it a couple times. Went through story mode with 2 good friends and it was absolutely everything I wanted! Love it!
I love how faithful it is to the original old school games. This looks to be everything I’ve ever wanted in a TMNT game
Glad to hear there are no framerate issues I was worried really wanted this on switch.
To re-watch the opening cinematic, just sit on the title screen for a minute or two and it will play automatically.
It has soo much potential with more playable characters to be added. I love the different fight/play style of each character. The longevity and replay value is great now, but could be through the roof with future playable characters.
They should have included more characters like Granitor, Usagi Yojimbo, Ray Fillet, Mondo Gecko, Tatsu, etc.
The fact they got the original voice actors from the show makes me feel like im 8 years old again! OG Turtle 🐢 power for life! And now all 4 voice actors are coming to Emerald City ComicCon! !
My favourite Easter Egg so far is the image of Shredder on a TV looking like it came right from the NES game.

I'm playing the GP version while waiting on my VHS Switch physical version from LRun.
I really liked Double Dragon IV and this TMNT is now my favorite modern retro game. THIS is the TMNT game that should be in arcades!
I love this game, as I predicted I would. The arcade mode is the best though, especially if you have 4 players or more. It gets absolutely insane and comical
I feel like a kid again with this game, turtle power!
