Paint the tank black, the white color makes for fungus to grow, some preppers cover it with roofing paper too, you can find great info on water tanks on prepper pages

Actually - no - complete darkness helps fungus grow the fastest. More light makes fungus grow slower and some to not grow at all.
Light helps Bacteria grow - and Algae is one of them.

@@SALESPRODUCTIONS Always use a completely opaque water storage tank - Algae uses photosynthesis to reproduce - in simple terms, algae needs light to grow. So, if your water tank does not allow light in through the roof or side walls, algae cannot grow.

At our cabin we have built a wooden box around the tank, which you can just lift up if you need to get access. Works really well, no more algae or green stuff. Here in Norway we have such long days in the summer that the water turns green very fast. We have one for the shower also which is black, and it gets heated in the sun and we have wonderful warm showers.

The end of your video had me crying like a baby. I have been following you two for years, and I can see the happiness radiating on both of your faces as you were soaking in the serenity and peacefulness of your own land. Seeing you finally get such a dream piece of land, for me, has been like watching the end of my favorite movie, while simultaneously starting a new one. I can’t wait to see your adventures ahead. Happy belated anniversary you two, I’m so happy for you both!

Oh, I feel so bad…I get fishing. I do, but seeing those glorious fish, suffocate and be afraid undoes me. And…I’m not disparaging any fisher people! I seriously do not like catch and release because it seems brutal and it will never be ok with me. I’m ok with you eating these fish…please don’t come for me anyone…it’s just one of my things I cannot overcome or stay quiet about but Barron and Elsa are two of my most favourite people on RUclips. I don’t know you guys, but if I did, I’d love you even more. Great video and you’ve got the best piece of earth I’ve ever seen! Hugs to little Kamp…I just keep envisioning him when he got separated and was stuck in the water looking so pitiful and it stayed in my noggin!
To imagine those who’ve gone before and walked that same land gives me goosebumps. To think of all we know and all we do not know and still, this earth amazes me.

Most homesteaders paint their tanks black. Blocks the sunlight inhibiting the growth of the algae. Happy 10 yrs together and may you be blessed with quadruple+ more😊💖 This video has been such a beautiful dramatic one. Excitement around every bend that opened up to amazingly beautiful scenery that just took my breathe away. With every step I wished I was right there witnessing the majesty of it all myself. That hilltop view of the sunset was just phenomenal. Elsa, you could here the joy in your voice when you said, "This is our backyard." And your faces said it all, like someone pinch me so I know this is real. You both have been blessed with such an amazing and beautiful piece of land and we thank you so much for humbly sharing with all of us as you continue on your journey, following your dreams💖💖😊

For your dowsing rods, on the handle end at the very bottom make a small 1/4" bend. Next thread a good sized bead at the bottom, followed by about 4" of a drinking straw. It makes it so the rod will spin freely and not get caught up on your hands. Happy anniversary!

We learned this from a pool and spa guy who lives up our road when we got a swimming pool, he said filter, filter, filter!!! Now if you're using plain old water in an enclosed container it will also grow algae but I believe that the filter will also keep it clean if it's in the shade!!!! Happy anniversary!😄💕

I even bought my most favorite ever dowsing rods from Amazon. I LOVE MY RODS! A long time ago, I worked in construction for 12 years. Whenever we needed to find water and sewer lines, we would take brass welding rods (they are very responsive) and bend them to 90 degree angles with one side longer than the other (loosely hold on to the short side). When you go witching, the rods would cross for water lines and go opposite directions for sewer lines as you walk over them. I've also taken wire coat hangers and done it, but they are not responsive at all. I've never tried it on open land, but I've amazed a LOT of people over the years with this. It really does work! And, by the way, great cutty's!

Another way to prevent algae from growing is to add copper pennies (pre 1982).
Copper has biostatic properties that makes it incompatible with algae. People have done this for bird baths for a long long time.
So does 99.9% pure fine silver. People with water cooled PCs put small "kill coils" in the water loop to keep things from growing in the loops.

@@tonimactavish9937 Even the worm on the hook is something I can't do anymore. I thought about all of this for a long time and finally came to the conclusion that I can't put any living thing through that kind of pain and shock. Indeed, imagine if it were the other way around.

Make a basic shade for it - build one or drape something impervious to light over it - or prime and paint it black. ( Which would heat it up naturally anyway for showers )
Make it slightly acidic or basic - ( very inexpensive tablespoon of baking soda or vinegar )
Put a few ( pre-1982 ) pennies in it. Not kidding. Especially if you are leaving out it out there without covering or painting it - the hotter it gets the more the brownian movement and corrosion of the pennies would work. Meaning more heat = better and faster disinfecting by the pennies.
Bleach of course is simple and easy - and inexpensive - but given it is shower water - not sure if you want to do that.
And then there is - Filtration of all water put in the tank and complete cleaning out and letting completely dry out between ( last resort steps )

Yeah keep the water tank out of the sun. Sun and organics will start the algae process. You can also use some chlorine to stop the process, mostly need to clean the tank first.

This. I brew my own colloidal silver.
      Indispensable.
Peroxide, then bleach (order German made online versus what we manufacture in the U. S.) as alternates.
Plus blacking out tank and as shaded and cool as possible.
      Love your backyard. ❤
Best wishes for the next amazing 10!

Don’t get me started on juniper pollen…ok, well that one pollen alone is single handedly trying to kill me. I’ve heard oohhhh wrong, or eat bee propolis from bees that are raised near these pines, or take juniper pills (tried a pill that unknowingly had juniper in it, I ended up in the hospital with massive gastric injuries (almost had to get a feeding tube). Wish there was someway to build resistance, but at my level of allergy the allergist doesn’t recommend it. I wish everyone the best on their allergy journeys.
