2023 Ram 1500 GT eTorque Towing Review: Is eTorque Helpful?

- The Ram 1500 offers both a 5.7L Hemi V8 with or without eTorque. #eTorque is the brand's mild #hybrid system that adds another 130 lb-ft to the V8's output at specific times. It's no turbocharger, but if you're #towing, is eTorque on the #ram1500 helpful?

I have one with Etorque and i certainly love the regenerative braking when towing. All that energy that normally goes to waste and wear on the brake pads now goes to give energy to your big electric fan, A/C fan, electric steering, sound system and much more... All that makes for good mileage when towing or not towing. Love it
Love the dive into e-Torque! Interesting to hear about the gearbox, as always great review!
I love my etorque the extra torque off the line is great and it helps speeding up when shifting gears to so I love the extra torque
Great review! I had the Laramie with etorque and towing our 7300# toy hauler was white knuckle through the SoCal hills, but unloaded, man it’s super smooth! Unfortunately only had it for a year and decided to upgrade to Ram 3500 HO dully 😎 tows like there is nothing behind it lol
Interesting that you didn't love towing the toy hauler given it wasn't much heavier than my car trailer. Guessing it was taller overall? The car trailer I use is ~10 feet from ground to roof... height and "sail in the wind" does a lot for stability.
Glad you're enjoying the Ram 3500 though and thanks for watching!
I have had the same experience with a 7x16x7 tall enclosed trailer on a windy day , white knuckles
e-torque is great in stop and go traffic but useless for towing or even just highway cruising
What are your thoughts on the etorque? Long term realiability? Love the red!
Great review. Like the explanation on the e-torque system and how it changes the drive feel and experience. I don’t think I’ve heard much in terms of reliability issues with it either so seems like a good addition to the 5.7.
But like you I am very interested to see how the 3.0 Hurricane performs, especially how the two variants differ (standard vs HO).
Reliability wise, these systems seem pretty durable. Mercedes-Benz applies the same concept on their current inline-six engine that they call "EQ Boost." Stay tuned for the Hurricane H.O. review on Grand Wagoneer L... in a few weeks ;-)
I hate the sound of a six. Any six. So bought a Hemi while I still could.
Interesting review, thanks very much. I am looking to buy a used RAM 1500 with 5.7L, and I am watching as many vids on 'eTorque' as I can find. So far, I see absolutely ZERO reason to buy a truck with eTorque. In fact, I predict that this will become a very undesirable feature as time goes on (yes, I realize the 5.7L is discontinued). For me, I am looking to buy a RAM 1500 with engine only, no eTorque. I just don't see any advantages to eTorque, and I do see many opportunities for trouble and added repair expenses down the road. Thanks again.......................
It's just a different style of starter/generator that is now pretty common across the industry. Does it help a ton in real world performance? Eh. But it's also not some magical thing that nobody will know how to work on, either.
Nice work as always Jake! Was always curious about the “e-torque” models, cool to see it in action in a real world towing condition!
Why not use the manual shifter or paddle shifters to see how the transmission holds or doesnt hold the gears while towing??
Not LGBTQ.. but you've got some great content. Trying to create a video specifically about the best trucks/suv's that can tow a smaller popup style of camper - 2k-3k weight. Do you have any good videos that would help with this? Trying to find something that isn't a dedicated tow vehicle that can also serve as a daily driver and get decent gas mileage while towing on long trips. I know.. pretty impossible !!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed :-) Honestly, for pulling 2-3k you have a ton of options that will be fine. Fuel economy while towing is always a difficult thing to discuss because it'll vary so much based on what you're towing. I'd recommend focusing on what else you want from the vehicle first (overall size, SUV vs pickup, etc) and then comparing how a smaller list of options tows.
We generally create towing videos on anything that is rated at 5k or above given our focus is towing cars over anything.
@@OutMotorsports Thanks so much !! I'm actually in the process of creating a video about the top 10 fuel efficient tow vehicles for lightweight campers. Should be pretty good. Unfortunately.. I don't have a channel that's all that popular.. so getting hands on with mutiple vehicles is impossible. But.. i'm still going to do the best I can to compare the specs.. etc. Looking forward to watching some more of your videos. Great stuff!!
why does the caption say 2023?
Wow who does a review on a dirty filthy truck. Camera man doesn’t show new digital dash. Good presentation and nice effort.
Wow just out here using the truck as a truck, terribly sorry that it wasn't freshly washed and up to your standards ;-)
@@OutMotorsports sorry that comment was not meant for you. Good video.
compared to the f150 powerboost the etorque is a joke
😂😂😂 Fords engines are a joke. Wait til you hit a 100k. If you can even make it there. Turbos just falling apart, interior squeaking everywhere. Ford trucks are junk.. good luck. 😂😂😂😂
@@claysmurthwaite2386 the joke is a wee little 2.7 ecoboost will blow the doors off a crappy hemi 🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣😂😂
