Your theory lessons are very clear. I’ve learnt a lot from your channel. How to find the key & major / minor of any song…that lesson allowed me to start soloing over songs. Great step forward so many thanks.
I like the sound of the guitar, do you use an amp or do you plug your guitar directly to an audio interface and to your computer? I am trying to find out how to make the guitar to sound like that with only audio interface and reaper
Thanks! I go into my pedalboard where I use a subtle compressor and some reverb. That goes into my Suhr Bella amp. Then rather than putting a mic in front of the speaker, I go into a load box that converts the signal into a digital one that goes directly into my audio interface. I use the Suhr Reactive Load IR for that.
I have a question Andrew. Let’s say i have Fm key. I would build chords like this: Fm, Gdim, A, Bm, Cm, D, E but found out that it should be: Fm, Gdim, Ab,Bbm, Cm, Db and Eb. Why there are flats there and how can I resolve chord progressions in flat keys e.g. Bb key?
Hey, you've got the right idea, but Fm is a key that naturally contains flats. 11 of our 12 major keys and 11 of our 12 minor keys contain at least one flat or sharp note. You have to make sure you're building your scales using the whole musical alphabet that includes flats and sharps. If this is confusing at all, I'd highly recommend watching this video: ruclips.net/video/dHKwodTRKN0/видео.html
If you're adjusting the numbers for a minor key, then you would shift the numbers. So in a minor key the 3, 6, and 7 are major chords, the 1, 4, 5 chords are minor, and the 2 chord is diminished. I prefer always relating my numbers back to the relative major key to avoid confusion.
So if the key is minor are the second , third and 6 th still minor chords? In the key of C the B is diminished. In the key Of A minor is the B now minor and the C is minor and the D,E are now Major?
The easiest way to tell is if the notes in the chord are in the scale. For example. In C major - it's C D E F G A B. If the song is in A Minor - you can't have a B major since the major third of B is D# - which is not in C major. It works for any key. Take D minor. If you want to know if the G is major or minor etc - play the notes in the D Minor scale ( F major ) and see if all those notes are in G major or Minor !!
That’s awesome, but what the heck is two and one? This is what I don’t understand about nashville number system or whatever. What determines two and what determines one? Maybe this is a good video for later? Maybe you already have this video? Help me please!
221 - 2221 = Tone tone semitone. tone tone tone semitone. 1 = 1 fret (semitone) 2 = 2 frets ( tone ). Hence C major scale is C D E F G A B C. On one string it's two frets two frets one fret. two frets two frets two frets one fret.
great recap andrew!!!. thank you for all of your lessons, i don't feel overwhelmed by the guitar no more.
Great to hear! Thanks so much for watching :)
Thank you for your videos. It is very easy to follow through and not overwhelming.

Very well explained. Thank you.
Good easy explanation 👌
Bruuuuuhhhhh... With the phone number analogy the whole "whole step whole step half step" thing clicked! Thank you!
2 1/2 + 3 1/2.

Thanks @@andrewclarkeguitar - I got back to the video you linked and sorted things out 🔥
Are the 1 45 chords still major or are they flipped?

Thank you so much for your lessons. You make theory understandable, and it’s really helped me in my guitar playing! You’re a great teacher!
Thanks so much! Glad the lessons are helpful 😊

Can please do for dim and augmented chords
Augmented triads are stacked Major thirds. Eg. C - E - G#. Diminished triads are stacked minor thirds. Eg. E - G - A#.
