    Whether you are coming up with your own guitar parts or improvising a guitar solo on the fly, knowing which notes sound good over the chords is essential. In this video, I’ll go over the two main ways to look at the music to help you improve your note choice on the guitar. After we cover the two main methods for finding the right notes, we’ll talk about the best way to deal with non-diatonic chords, which can occur due to key modulation or modal interchange. By the end of this lesson, you’ll be well-equipped to play over just about any chord progression you can think of.

    Thanks for another great video. I really like your take on focusing more on scales when improvising and more on chord tones when writing a solo. Lately I've been watching a lot of videos about how to incorporate triads and chord tones while improvising within a scale, but I've found it really difficult to implement that, especially in a live setting. I feel like my brain doesn't have enough processing power to keep up!

      I've found that it can be helpful to start just by picking one point in a chord progression where you attempt to land on a chord tone. Maybe the first chord of that progression, everytime it comes around to resolve you aim to hit one of them. As you get better and better at all this stuff, everything starts to feel like it's moving in slow-motion. Just about pushing yourself and putting the time in. ☺

    Hearing and looking at your solo make me wonder if you have a video coming out on linking effectively the different scales to do solos like that or do you have any advice on how to tackle all the different pentatonic shapes effectively?

    • @andrewclarkeguitar
      @andrewclarkeguitar  Год назад

      Planning on it! I just have to decide if it's worth tackling all in one video or not. Learning a handful of those links at a time is manageable, but learning them all in the span of a 30 minute lesson would be very difficult. Just wanna make sure I'm being as helpful as possible :)

    Hi Andrew
    You tube member vs $5 patron member?
    Whats the difference?
    Thank you. Or verses $9.

    • @andrewclarkeguitar
      @andrewclarkeguitar  Год назад

      Hey! The Tier 2 ($5 CAD) RUclips Membership and the Tier 1 ($5 USD) Patreon tier will give you access to most of the same things -- downloadable lesson notes & bonus videos. Patreon does have a little bit of a nicer interface, and it makes it easier to navigate and share things (built-in attachments, etc). But the YT membership gives you a cool little badge next to your name when you leave a comment on one of my videos. So that's kinda cool.
      The Tier 2 ($9 USD) Patreon tier gives you access to be able to Direct Message me with your questions on the Patreon platform (which is something the YT membership can't offer). Hope that helps! :)

    Great but too much all at once. Drinking from a fire hose. Just a suggestion but you might consider breaking this up a little more. I'm a flight instructor and what I have found is if you overwhelm a student they won't apply it and therefore won't retain it. Great info...just too much at one time.
