  • Part XI: About 5 hours out of Los Angeles, I visit the steam engine from part III of Back to the Future. It's the movie in which Marty and Doc Brown end up in the Wild West. This is the area used for filming. Unfortunately, I can't find the exact location.

The set for the town was built in the red hills area of Tuolumne county, but unfortunately the property that the set was on is private property, so the chances of being able to go there are slim to none. However in September Tuolumne county is having a back to the future festival. Here’s the link to the events website : www.backto1885.com

Thanks for the info about the location, Garrett! Yes, I read about the event and it looks wonderful, but unfortunately we're not able to fly over from Switzerland for it. I'm looking forward to lots of photos and videos!

I guess you can say Sierra 3 is a movie star

Absolutely! A movie and TV star! 😊 I remember it from the Range Rider episode of the A-Team, but of course it played a part in many many productions.

You should have came by in September. There was an event that took place at the filming site. It's still there. The town burned down in 1996 though, but there's a few pieces left over. Mostly burnt.

I wish someone would do an onsite location video of whats left of the town today.Seems everyone films all the other locations from the series but none have yet to go out into the woods and film the ruins of the the old west Hill Valley town.

Something like this, yes! ;-) BTW I also visited the intersection of Hayvenhurst and Plummer in Los Angeles, where the evil terminator jumps the tow truck down into the drainage canal during the motorbike chase in Terminator 2. :-)

The address is right there in the video, you can't miss it, just watch it until the end (or at least until 4:19).
