I've used 2k clear on several older vehicles. It surely qualifies as good enough. Trick I learned was heavier coats are better than light ones. Looks good from 20ft but most importantly stops the clear coat peel from spreading :)
The longevity of this finish? I'm guessing 18 months? The problem is that, if not removed completely, the failing clearcoat underneath the newly applied clearcoat exemplifies that old Jewish proverb: If you build your house on sand... 😅
I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing it this way. I used to work in a RV paint and body shop and we did it for customers from time to time. If the paint is in pretty good condition go for it. Your project turned out awesome!👍
Mask the entire car, you wont see overspray on the exposed surface but you can feel it, also surrounding vehicles can get overspray. 400 grit is too coarse, 600 to 800 would be good. Mineral spirits is too harsh, use sprayaway glass cleaner (ammonia free) or alcohol. Might as well clear the headlights, but with final 1000 grit.
Just be careful with that 2K clear. Super dangerous stuff. Technically, you should have an forced air mask, but at a MINIMUM, you should be using that outdoors or in a VERY well ventilated area with a respirator and paint cartridges.

So many DIY guys say it's easy, and then break out the 2k. You need a face shield respirator for something as poisoning as that. That no longer makes it as easy as these vids are saying
If a proper prep and good 2k clear is used, it will not continue to peel. The new clear will provide the proper u.v. protection to prevent further failures.

You should really be adding plastic at the bottom to at least protect the unmasked areas from overspray, other than that, nothing beats that 2k aerosol clear!
you could go down even to a 160-200 grit for the clear removal, maybe even down to 120 grit. And for home paint jobs, using low pressure air (40-60 psi) you can blow off the car in between coats to help minimize the dust trapped on the surface to cut down on the cut and buff at the end
That’s pretty aggressive, you’d have to come back up to 400 (ideally more like 800) unless you want sand scratches all throughout your clear. The risk of going through the exposed paint would be way too high if all you want to do is just re-clear
