*Just run 3,000 grit sand paper over the peeling clear coat. Then use USC Spraymax 2k Glamour High Gloss Aerosol Clear Coat. For $20 you can save your car crom needing a paint job. Little to no orange peel, self-leveling, and flashes quickly. Easiest clear coat I've ever used.*
Got the product.. using it on an infiniti silver color.. it is truly amazing.. have not used the second bottle yet.. but the cleaner is amazing.. I started the feathering.. but the cleaner softens it and it kinda just disappears.. I recommend this product..
Darker paint colors do less well in the sun, especially here in Florida. Its because darker colors absorb more heat. Plus, darker paint colors show more dirt.
The problem with this is that the clear coat will just continue to peel pretty rapidly. It's a losing battle. Also most base coats are pretty thin so it doesn't take much to rub it off.
Couldn't you just spray some clear over it, until you get a real fix? They sell 2K clear in a can, which would probably be fine for this.. just wet sand it and compound/polish afterwards to get rid of the orange peel.
Thank you so much for this video. I was rear-ended thought I'd taken it to a reputable body shop they used no clear. I did try turtle wax headlight cleaner and it did just what you just did. So I'm going to find some of what you were using. And your right my 250 red. I lost all my pride in my truck hopefully now I can fix it or make it look good again. Thx.
This is exactly what I've been looking for and I'm so glad I found it after looking through a dozen other videos. I'll be giving you guys a call and ordering in the next few days. Thanks

Get rid of the majority of that scaly, dried up clear coat by firmly applying a heavy duty packing tape, burnishing it down with the back side of a spoon, and then rip it off like waxing a leg. It will take off most of the loose stuff and leave you with a lot less feathering. Only lightly sand in the remaining clear coat with 600 grit wet paper.
Every time you use a rubbing compound, (and see that paint come off on a rag) on an already thin film of base coat, you're removing the outer oxidized portion of that paint. Soon you'll be down to bare metal.
Yep! I was doing a cut and polish on an elderly relative's car & had to be real careful because the oxidation was really bad. But by the time I finished the waxing the car looked really nice. No clear coat to worry about though.
Going to check this out. Really hope it works. Walked out today, after 2 days of very heavy rain, and found TWO large water bubbles on the side of my truck. All because the 20+ year old clear coat had flaked some and now holding rain water.
@Windy Deals I only managed to sand it down. I'm having trouble finding the sealer needed. So i just used basic paint sealer. My truck is white, so it's really hard to see the clear coat issues after sanding. It's a work truck. So my main focus is keeping water from bubbling in the clear coat again. Seems to be working.
@@sespider not trade recommended but.... sand out the problem area and feather out beyond Mask around the area to be reclearcoated, ( by having masking paper rolled back over itself, ie deep curved masked edge, you get a soft feathered edge which melds into existing clear coat or paint and takes little to finish, rather than a hard stepped defined edge everywhere) And clear coat You can choose to give everything a light sand and polish, or leave it as you see fit. Works successfully, quick and easy fix for tired clear coat
Early 80s plastic coated cars were a thing until they started looking like they're shedding snake skin. Popular option at the time. My 2000 Ford Ranger looks horrible but I'm going to try this stuff & see what happens. The 2022 car I just bought has NO plastic coating!
This is reasonable compared to a lot of videos I've seen. I have a 95 Chryslerwith black paint and destroyed clear coat. This seems to be a reasonable "fix" until I have $1,500 for paint and body work. We'll see...
I used the product and it worked well but after a while, the peeling just continued. Do I have to put a clear coat on after the procedure to prevent that from happening? Something like Rustolium?
Hey man I appreciate the video I just bought a used Toyota it's a pretty decent condition except for the paint the paint on the roof looks like crap I'm going to get it back in shape with your video thank you very much
I'm glad I found this! My wife's Mitsubishi ASX has the rear spoiler on the roof peeling like crazy. Also on her mirror I see little bubbles? Almost like fish eyes? I've never seen anything like that. But it's over 20 years since I did a full restoration of an old car. Top job! I'm going to get some. Australian sun destroys everything. Cheers from Australia just subbed and liked 🙂👍👍👍
@@MrBENTPIN my Mitsubishi Evo its a 2015 the paint is held up well the only place it hasn’t is the spoiler for some reason the whole car is still black, but the spoiler is sunburned like crazy
@@chrismyersroofing it worked pretty good. It's definitely not as noticeable as it was. I'm satisfied with it but don't expect it to complete blend in.
Hey man, glad you're still doing good. I use to run the u- pull it yard on Broadway in Phx, you use to set up in front of the yellow warehouse. Keep it up man.

If you are an Arizona product, I will for sure buy it! I’m looking to improve the look of the paint on my 16 year old’s 1994 Honda Accord that we just bought him as a first car. Seriously, anything is an improvement, lol.
nothing stops it... it will spread No matter what you do... You could slow it ,, but not by much ..It will start eroding even more when it starts getting wet and raining a lot outside...It's not toasted and brittle it just has no clearcoat over it to protect it ,,, the reason why you're lifting the paint off..You're basically compounding it
I just noticed the fin on my silver Honda trunk is starting to peel, was rear-ended 4 years ago and body shop repainted :( Original paint on rest of car is not peeling anywhere else. Is it worth doing this or better to have the fin repainted by someone prof for longevity? Any recommendations on good companies to paint it? My car is always in the driveway (not garage) in the southern sun unfortunately.
That car needs some headlight, grille, and emblem restorer lol. I've never tried those products. They do seem to work well. I've always loved 3m products. They can be touchy to work with and you got to be careful with some things like their heavy duty rubbing compound but once you get the hang of them they are awesome. My main advice is NOT to use the items in big box stores. Its the ones you don't see ads for or never see in stores that tend to be best. They don't market them to common people because they would rather have professionals(or at least people who know what they are doing) use them.

Clear coat peeling after 5 years is acceptable because most people don’t keep their cars longer. If you don’t want peeling clear coat, wax it every 3 months or seal it once a year. Period.

No...if you are removing the clear coat from the base coat, its stuffed. Base coat is the merly the cosmetic colour coat, and has no protective properties whatsoever. Thats the reason clearcoat is applied. It provides the protection for the base coat against the weather. The only way to fix this properly would be to strip the panel back to bare metal and start from scratch. This will look exactly the same as it did at the start of the video in a few months time by doing it this way. Oh, and before anyone gets in here and says I dont know what I am talking about, 30 years as an automotive refinisher ( spray painter ) should count for something.
peeling is clear coat. you have to remove the clear coat first. actually the paint is still good but dirty. then you decide whether to cut the paint by polishing. we can see here the paint underneath is not good. then you polish. to seal the newly polish paint you have to wax.
I have that exact same thing happening on the hood of my Toyota Prius. What if I take some really really high grit sandpaper and sand off that peeling part first and then use this solution that you have will it work?
Looks like a rubbing compound that spreads the paint on the surface. Probably wouldn't be kind to a paint that has metallic flakes in it. Just my observation though.

I recently bought a mixed blade scalpel set from the pound shop. There are two chisel type blades in there. I made them sharper with a diamond stone. Laid flat they are amazing at removing the eges of clearcoat. Just have to be careful not to scratch the paint. Bought my plastic bumper up a treat!
After this is done and cleaned the paint job can I put a rattle an clear coat like a legit good can of it. I know how to paint but I need to know will this coat and dry right ?

Have you tried it? Wouldn't the wax prevent oxidisation and further peeling if you apply it somewhat diligently? Perhaps a ceramic coating could do even better than wax... I'm curious but dont wanna waste over a hundred dollars and a couple hours for it to go back to how it was in a few days lol

Just tried it today 7/19/24 .. garbage... didn't work on my trucks.. I have a 2007 Nissan titan and a 2013 cadillac escalade platinum and the titan has look as this red car in the video being sun burned in the Texas heat.. cadillac has a fade look too it ... did nothing for either one
it's literally the same thing, takes off a layer of paint. the amount of effort here...might as well stick to chrisfix's method and do it the right way
It is a finer grit than rubbing compound. I would use rubbing compound on the scratches, and I would use a finer grade compound such as this every few years until no more cracking and flaking appears along the feathered edges.
+what you want me to say I have learned a lot from RUclips from long time because that's people's experience and nothing matches that and that's the only social media that I use besides google

Thanks for your tip, I bet that red hood would look brand new with your tip
You should post a video tutorial.
Got the product.. using it on an infiniti silver color.. it is truly amazing.. have not used the second bottle yet.. but the cleaner is amazing.. I started the feathering.. but the cleaner softens it and it kinda just disappears.. I recommend this product..
you commented 7 months ago. what's the update?
Darker paint colors do less well in the sun, especially here in Florida. Its because darker colors absorb more heat.
Plus, darker paint colors show more dirt.
The problem with this is that the clear coat will just continue to peel pretty rapidly. It's a losing battle. Also most base coats are pretty thin so it doesn't take much to rub it off.
he already did, he went through the paint on the edge of the hood
Try to listen.
He said this is to make it look "better" until it gets painted.
The isn't a fix but a stop gap measure.
Couldn't you just spray some clear over it, until you get a real fix? They sell 2K clear in a can, which would probably be fine for this.. just wet sand it and compound/polish afterwards to get rid of the orange peel.
@@hhastewhat grid do you use on cars?
Thank you for explaining in detail. A lot of fix it videos don't explain what is happening and what you are doing when you apply each type of product.
Thanks
How did it work?
Come back, did it work? Has it stayed, if it did work?
Not a bad idea doing that demo in a scrap area. Valid points made.

Exactly, how about slide a razor blade on the edge of clear coat 🤣
I’m gonna wait until next spring/summer to repaint/clear coat. This will be a perfect solution over the winter.
This is a bunch of crap.
You do an awesome job at explaining the whole process, thank you so very much.
Going to check this out.
Really hope it works.
Walked out today, after 2 days of very heavy rain, and found TWO large water bubbles on the side of my truck. All because the 20+ year old clear coat had flaked some and now holding rain water.
@Windy Deals
I only managed to sand it down. I'm having trouble finding the sealer needed. So i just used basic paint sealer. My truck is white, so it's really hard to see the clear coat issues after sanding.
It's a work truck. So my main focus is keeping water from bubbling in the clear coat again. Seems to be working.
@@sespider not trade recommended but.... sand out the problem area and feather out beyond
Mask around the area to be reclearcoated, ( by having masking paper rolled back over itself, ie deep curved masked edge, you get a soft feathered edge which melds into existing clear coat or paint and takes little to finish, rather than a hard stepped defined edge everywhere)
And clear coat
You can choose to give everything a light sand and polish, or leave it as you see fit. Works successfully, quick and easy fix for tired clear coat
Has anyone used this product in the video??

@@TORITOCHANNEL but does it stop pealing?
Early 80s plastic coated cars were a thing until they started looking like they're shedding snake skin. Popular option at the time. My 2000 Ford Ranger looks horrible but I'm going to try this stuff & see what happens. The 2022 car I just bought has NO plastic coating!
This is reasonable compared to a lot of videos I've seen. I have a 95 Chryslerwith black paint and destroyed clear coat. This seems to be a reasonable "fix" until I have $1,500 for paint and body work.
We'll see...
your lucky its only 1500. my moms lexus has this and its over 6000 for a new paint job
Just saw this video and I am quite impressed, just bought a kit to repair one of my cars! I am excited!
How did it work? Has it stayed over this time frame?
I used the product and it worked well but after a while, the peeling just continued. Do I have to put a clear coat on after the procedure to prevent that from happening? Something like Rustolium?
Well the clear coat is mainly used to protect, once the flakes starts it's much easier for it to get ruined. So yes, you should use some clear coat.
If you are an Arizona product, I will for sure buy it! I’m looking to improve the look of the paint on my 16 year old’s 1994 Honda Accord that we just bought him as a first car. Seriously, anything is an improvement, lol.
would be excellent for used car Dealers
nothing stops it... it will spread No matter what you do... You could slow it ,, but not by much ..It will start eroding even more when it starts getting wet and raining a lot outside...It's not toasted and brittle it just has no clearcoat over it to protect it ,,, the reason why you're lifting the paint off..You're basically compounding it
Miss the part about the sealer? Then can keep up with waxing it..
What is the cause of the damage in the first place? To much sunshine, never been waxed what?
will this works on a a RV fiberglass roof? thanks
Will this help prevent the peeling temporarily?
This is exactly what I needed to know. Thank you! Subbed!
I just noticed the fin on my silver Honda trunk is starting to peel, was rear-ended 4 years ago and body shop repainted :(
Original paint on rest of car is not peeling anywhere else.
Is it worth doing this or better to have the fin repainted by someone prof for longevity?
Any recommendations on good companies to paint it?
My car is always in the driveway (not garage) in the southern sun unfortunately.
Nice video! I have a 08 honda civic that is plagued with this issue..
Will it clean oxidation off of fiberglass like on an RV?
So no need to spray the clear coat to protect the paint?
That car needs some headlight, grille, and emblem restorer lol. I've never tried those products. They do seem to work well. I've always loved 3m products. They can be touchy to work with and you got to be careful with some things like their heavy duty rubbing compound but once you get the hang of them they are awesome. My main advice is NOT to use the items in big box stores. Its the ones you don't see ads for or never see in stores that tend to be best. They don't market them to common people because they would rather have professionals(or at least people who know what they are doing) use them.
the damm car manufacture should be held partly responsable for this

If your old car or pickup truck's paint is old and hazy here's the product made for bringing back the good remaining color and shine. Lukat Fix it Color and Gloss restorer polisher and the Lukat EZ Sealer wax.
Two Products Two Simple Steps One Great Finish
Step One: Use The Lukat Fix It Old Paint Cleaning Polisher to remove embedded oxidation, contamination, from off of the surface of your old auto paint job.
This product is not an auto paint wax rather it's a liquid deep cleaner made for polish cleaning removing restoring your old paint job back to a smooth and shiny state.
If you have a classic car with an original single-stage paint job with an oxidized chalky patina or a ruff textured patina on an old metallic single-stage base coat? Then this is the stuff to bring it back.
Step Two: Use the Lukat Ez Sealer Wax to preserve and protect the finish.
Apply like a regular wax let dry and cure for about ten to twenty minutes then remove.
Remember these are old paint restorer products there made to bring back your paint to a better state. After these two simple steps, the paint job will be smooth clean, and shiny once more now you are able to use any over-the-counter wax to enhance the finish.
Special disclaimer for a delaminated clear coat,
( WE CONSIDER DELAMINATING CLEARCOATS AS DESTROYED PAINT JOBS ) If your car's clear coat is eroding or peeling the very best thing to do is simply repaint it. Once the clear coat comes off it's not coming back.
BUT IN THE MEANTIME, you can use our products to help beautify the car's paint job, use the Lukat Fix it Color and Gloss Restorer Polish to polish clean back the remaining color and gloss on the good remaining clear coat and polish clean back the shine on the good remaining color base coat. Feather back the crumbling edges preferably with a kitchen scouring pad or sandpaper 400 to 600 grit. If you want to know more simply call us if we don't answer text us and we will get back to you. Thank You.

DAMN water base paint sucks. Fuck the EPA. Need to go back to oil base paint.
To an extent. Paint not taken care of can go bad. Even the best paint jobs.

Clear coat peeling after 5 years is acceptable because most people don’t keep their cars longer. If you don’t want peeling clear coat, wax it every 3 months or seal it once a year. Period.
If you’re good at buffering, can you use a low speed polisher? My hands and arms can’t take but a small amount of that.
A friendly fyi 4u
1. "Buffering" is the technical term predominantly used when your computer or smart device is experiencing a slow or problematic internet connection and or bandwidth
2. "Buffing" is the term your thinking of.
Looks great. My car is so old, I'm holding out for a new one until I'm done with college, this would be perfect.
Great presentation! My 89 Nissan 300 zx top coat hit & miss all over the car, so?
So, when I use the kit you sell I don’t need to spend $1000 for repainting once I clean and seal my oxidized and peeling clear coat?
Excellent and trying your products.. thanks
Whats another liquid I can put on my car?
They make clear coat in a can that you can use to fix that spot and then wet sand to blend in then polish. Good as new.
Yup 😎
Can you share the name of the clear coat spray? I need to do this. Thanks!
Red always comes back banging

Great video I am sold
The clearcoat on my ride is trashed. Im ggonna order this stuff and see how well it works.
Could you have sprayed a fresh clear coat over it, after you took to oxidation off the base coat and clear coat?
Yup
Can you sand it with 400 - 600 then shoot clear coat again?
Yep 👍
No...if you are removing the clear coat from the base coat, its stuffed. Base coat is the merly the cosmetic colour coat, and has no protective properties whatsoever. Thats the reason clearcoat is applied. It provides the protection for the base coat against the weather. The only way to fix this properly would be to strip the panel back to bare metal and start from scratch. This will look exactly the same as it did at the start of the video in a few months time by doing it this way. Oh, and before anyone gets in here and says I dont know what I am talking about, 30 years as an automotive refinisher ( spray painter ) should count for something.
@@lloydowen1977 --yes there needs to be an "after" video for at least 6 months...i want a BMW w CC peel on the roof--what do you suggest?
Can you apply clear coat over the paint after using the product?
I don't see why not and that's what I would recommend doing, to help it stay protected. 2K clear, specifically
Good real world tips.
peeling is clear coat. you have to remove the clear coat first. actually the paint is still good but dirty. then you decide whether to cut the paint by polishing. we can see here the paint underneath is not good. then you polish. to seal the newly polish paint you have to wax.

After wet sanding wipe clean . Spray with a clear gloss . Will loom new .look new
Yup you can do that to.
Hoe to buy it and price
I recently bought a mixed blade scalpel set from the pound shop. There are two chisel type blades in there. I made them sharper with a diamond stone. Laid flat they are amazing at removing the eges of clearcoat. Just have to be careful not to scratch the paint. Bought my plastic bumper up a treat!
After this is done and cleaned the paint job can I put a rattle an clear coat like a legit good can of it. I know how to paint but I need to know will this coat and dry right ?
I would also like to know
But I thought the whole point was to repair the oxidation of the base due to the peeling of the gloss coat to appear as the original paint job?

How can I get this product
Nice itsalmost like "satin" car wax look it up people but this products is Kool aswell
Is there a video that shows how to use cleaner with buffer and explained the steps on doing so??
Very good information
Not a permanent fix. This will get it looking good for About 1 week. You must sand and re-cleat it.
Bro! 😂😅 I'm defending this product from lies like yours. I bought it tried it and love it.
How long did it last for you? @@terrencehead6213
lightly sand the line out and clear coat !!
Seems we need some different levels of Polish to clean up the surface, then wax
95 S 500 can you use black like bubbles of clear coat from sun on water drops. I'll try it.
Looks like what I need .
Thanks J

If you have a classic car with an original single-stage paint job with an oxidized chalky patina or a ruff textured patina on an old metallic single-stage base coat? Then this is the stuff to bring it back.
Step Two: Use the Lukat Ez Sealer Wax to preserve and protect the finish.
Apply like a regular wax let dry and cure for about ten to twenty minutes then remove.
Remember these are old paint restorer products there made to bring back your paint to a better state. After these two simple steps, the paint job will be smooth and shiny once more now you are able to use any over-the-counter wax to enhance the finish.
Thank You.

Could you use the product to clean the area, then spay on some clear coat? For an intermediate fix? I may try that on my old red chevy express. Red is great....at hiding almost everything.
Yup you can do that or just sand and rattle can respray and reclear
👍🏽😎
@@lukatfixit8298 you got me. I am ordering for my shiny red 20 year old chevy business van. Peeling clear coat is making it look awful, and reflecting on my business. I considered selling , just because the clear coat is failing.
That's what I would do
Will the cleaner take tree sap off clear coat without damaging
I have used rubbing alcohol to remove pitch from my car.
i have flaking clearcoat on my car hood like this, if i do this would it be alright to wrap the hood after? like it wouldn't affect its ability to stay on or anything, right?
If your gonna wrap it you wont need this product
@@lukatfixit8298 ok thank you very much
If your going to wrap your hood....you don't need to do anything but sand the flakes away. The wrap will cover the "bad" paint.
@@perryh.5306 oh nice, thank you very much
So what would you do when it starts rusting?

Just tried it today 7/19/24 .. garbage... didn't work on my trucks.. I have a 2007 Nissan titan and a 2013 cadillac escalade platinum and the titan has look as this red car in the video being sun burned in the Texas heat.. cadillac has a fade look too it ... did nothing for either one
Worked pretty good on my mother’s 2003 LeSabre.
Is this the same as rubbing compound?
it's literally the same thing, takes off a layer of paint. the amount of effort here...might as well stick to chrisfix's method and do it the right way
Rubbing compound are akin to liquid sand paper
This is more cleaner than cutter so less is removed
It is a finer grit than rubbing compound. I would use rubbing compound on the scratches, and I would use a finer grade compound such as this every few years until no more cracking and flaking appears along the feathered edges.
Great video
Thanks! Great Video!
That was a great video!
I thought you might respray with clear coat and feather it.
yup you can do that to just prep it

thank you for inquiring
It’s almost like your cleaner takes paint from one area and spreads and smooths the paint of the base coat. That way when you get to your wax it’s blends and shines that much more.
Thats not how it works lol...
@@henrykwan1221 i mean 😂 that’s how it worked on my car 🙂
I'm guessing its something you need to redo every year?
