I like this idea because you could adjust the hang by inserting shims in the eye until it's straight. This is what I've done for years with their tomahawks and it's one reason I prefer them over traditional hatchets. Every single wood handled axe I've ever seen has had crooked hang, and there's nothing you can do about it except cut the handle off and put in a new one, which is a big pain in the ass.
I think can be a good option for people concerned about fixing a broken handle in the field or switching for a hatchet handle for backpacking or random peojects. Regards from Uruguay sir
@Saber Outdoors I wonder if they meant you could figure out how to literally put it on any piece of wood in case your original handle broke... not sure. I'd email them
Has its pros and cons. As far as it loosening, a little bit of blue lock tite would solve that issue. I like how it can be easily removed to switch out handles or you could use a random piece of wood in the woods as a handle if you needed to in an emergency.
i mean, as long as you don't lose the loose pin in the front of the handle, and can carve the right indents for all the pins. if you want fast handle swaps and the ability to make one from found wood a tomahawk would be the solution.
Loctite those bolts and you will never have another issue with loose bolts, The design is odd, but the axe works great as a hybrid general use axe, especially for off-roading/camping.
That design aggravates me. Its a solution to a problem that didn’t exist. The fact it loosened that easily is pathetic. It’s dangerous to sell such crappy gear to folks.
You should make a video showing how easy or difficult it is to install a replacement handle for it.
That is a good idea

I have been using this since this video and its still a pretty good axe

Thanks for watching and commenting. I think it would easy to put a handle in too
It is really good review. best review for cold steel hudsonbay camp axe so far. I've always curious about the durability of this axe's head
The head did really good for me. Even when it was loose I wasn't afraid to use it
You could still put a wedge in that or just tighten it
I did tighten it.

wedge wouldn't work, it would just open up the back to accommodate the extra width.

After I tightened it the head has not been a problem since

"Intrinsic worth. the concept that when you put some made object in your hand , you go "Ahhhhhhh" or "EEEWWWW" Cold Steel is pretty consistent...
In my limited experience with cold steel I would agree they are consistent
@@Saber_Outdoors Ahhhh or EEWW?
I liked it

They haven't bothered me since I tightened them up. Its a good general use axe for me

After I tightened it I have not had any problems with it since
Drywall sanding block. Sandpaper from 200 up to 1000. Will absolutely make it shave. And how I do mine.
@@aprilnichols2806 i have done that too and you're right it works good
That head design is a horrible idea, especially for a "camp axe"
It's different for sure. I'll do a follow up on it at some point to see how it holds up over time. Thanks for the comment
