    Beautiful craftsmanship my friend. You are a natural. The handle mods on the pipe hawk look like an original museum piece.
    And to think you have only just begun.
    My personal preference is in the realm of the Viking age and I would like to see the dragon scales and perhaps some of the elder futhark runes on that larger cold steel Viking axe, and perhaps a handle wrap like the pipe hawk has except longer perhaps starting two inches from the bottom of the shaft and extending twelve to fourteen the inches up the handle for a solid two handed grip when necessary.
    A work of art in the making..........
    Again, lovely and deadly beauties you have there.
    Please keep doing what you are apparently so talented at!

    Dude, You're an inspiration! Love the work you did!! If your engraving lines aren't perfect that's just the better! It adds character. I also like the comparison between Cold Steel and CRKT, that really helped me decide which one to get. Thank You!

    I just bought a cold steel frontier hawk, with the intention of customizing it, to "make it my own", so was looking at various vids to get some ideas. Just stumbled on yours, and all I can say is..WOW! You have some real talent there partner. I am truly impressed!
    I don't have the talent you do, so mine will be a bit more simple, but again, wow. You are GOOD!
    SO far, all I have done is sand down the handle, and made it fit the head the right way. Heading out today to get some paint remover and some bluing,. Was thinking of putting a leather collar on it, for missed swings protection, but I do plan on using mine, so not sure if I want to yet. That would prevent me from removing the head in the field if I wanted to, so will give it more thought.
    Overall, I am sure mine won't look as good as yours, but it still will be mine. I might get into doing more later on, as I like the process. A neat little "project" hobby, to kill some time productively. Thinking Norse Hawk for my next one.

    These hawks are not garbage when you get them from Cold Steel. They are rough, unfinished. Excellent tool, I have three. Best tool for the money I have. Better than a hatchet, or knife, or axe. Easier to carry. Faster chop speed. Excellent splitter, chopper, thrower, basher, will crack skulls too.

    Awesome custom work on the hawks! Had the same problem with the head coming off so I seen Crocket20 use a wood shim in place of the set screw.

  • @JuicyJerm
    @JuicyJerm 6 лет назад

    I just got my CRKT Woods Kangee last week. The edge was completely dull, the head looked like it was forced to the end and did the same that your frontier hawk did, couldnt sand it because it was a 1/4 inch from the top of handle. Had to used a wedge to keep head in but with some work it is awesome, the spike on it is a beast.

    Referencing the unwanted set screw: Check out Tandy Leather on line, or one of their stores. They have a good selection of screw in back silver or brass conchos. One of those might be used to replace the screw. Or, you could melt silver solder into the hole, and sand it smooth, and shiny.

    Very cool! Love the designs. Im a knife and bow guy. Will get my first axe tommorow. Coldsteel battle axe. Little nervous about the handle. In the netherlands these (and all weapons) are much more expensive. Hope i can get the head fitted good. I hear alot of people complaining about the screw. Will it really splitt the handle if you use the allen screw? Cant wait to get creative with it 😙

    It is hit and miss with the cold steel handles. But a little work and an hour or two of time. You can make it your own. I have a all of Cold Steels tomahawks and one Viking axe. Making the handle my own design was the best part. You did a great job on our handles. And as a side note, never make the them (the handles) factory finish. When it comes to design.
