People asking why he sent the letter now, i feel like he did that to flush out all the PSG hopes (if they had any) that they can convince him to renew when the 2023-24 season starts. So basically he did the right thing if you ask me, he let them know that he wont renew and will leave for free next summer. But the one thing i don't understand is who leaked this letter to the public? Was it Mbappe? Maybe to pressure PSG. Or was it PSG? Maybe to make Mbappe the villain.

@@Hrishiqx There was no reason for him to even send the letter. His deal expires in 2024 and there's no way PSG can automatically extend it. This is different from Messi's case. Messi had to inform Barca in writing, by a certain time. He only did it verbally, took Bartomeu at his word and got shafted. Mbappe is in no such situation, because unlike Messi's deal at the time, Mbappe's doesn't automatically renew.

Real Madrid's number 9 is more than just a regular 9 position. You have to be flexible and know how to start a build-up play. By penning this letter, he is formalizing his position so that there’s no misunderstanding between the club and him, and he’s giving the club the time to decide what to do. Had he said nothing and let the option deadline pass, those same media and club would have argue he could have told the club earlier to give it time for transfer business.

This Kylian Mbappe thing should've been sorted out 12 months ago because now with all the whole he doesn't wanna leave and he informed the club he won't trigger the option to renew his contract, it's just news that is leaked and it's clear that he wrote the letter on purpose so that he can seal a move in the future. He played the cards right with PSG because he knows that with this contract impasse, he'll be sold if he doesn't sign a new deal and also if he'll run down his contract if he stays beyond the summer. After this letter, there's no coming back for Kylian Mbappe at PSG and Real Madrid find themselves in a better position than before to finally sign this player. Besides why is this transfer saga dragged on for another summer, he should've been a Real Madrid player by now, playing for a club that's ran properly, has a sporting project, much better team and a team who'll continue to compete especially in the champions league, let PSG sell him, they need to because right now it seems like the relationship between PSG and Kylian Mbappe has broken down and I would be surprised if there's a way back for him there now.

Mbappe made the optimal decision on how and when he announced his decision. This positions him to be seen more favorably to PSG fans. Protecting his legacy so he will be glorified in the manner PSG retells his history with the club.
Here is the alternative move: Mbappe says nothing until the end of next season. Professional behavior and constant downplaying a move away from PSG in interviews and Tweets. There would be this "weird" delay with Mbappe not signing an extension. Then Madrid signs him on a Free Transfer.
Mbappe and his camp know this would damage his legacy with PSG fans. In reality, he gave a business courtesy to PSG, the fans would not forgive him if he'd left any other way. He made a good decision, which was the objectively best decision. With this, Mbappe gave PSG an opportunity to be able to make a choice. Sell now and get some money or go free at the end of the season.
He accomplished his league titles, goals and records. He knows he's winning a Champions League with or without PSG, so he is not losing sleep not yet having that trophy. All this is is that Mbappe will stay until 2024 and then leave in the summer, but PSG assumed he would automatically renew his contract beyond 2024. Mbappe allegedly gave PSG a heads-up in July 2022 and is now putting it in writing in June 2023. PSG realize they will lose Mbappe and also lose financially if he leave in June 2024. PSG should have had a clause in their contracts with Mbappe to prevent this; maybe something like it is mandatory to give inform the club of non-renewal of the contract in writing at least one year in advance or something so that PSG know how to act, should something like this happen. PSG should NOT have been surprised by this situation now. Players of his calibre are treated differently but the clubs are the EMPLOYERS and should act like it, from an organizational perspective.
But *this* is 1 year in advance, his contract goes until 2024 with an option to stay until 2025, so now in 2023, 1 year in advance he's reminding them he's not going to stay after 2024.
mbappe is telling real madrid that he is free next year in a way that they can trust him, if he tells it behind the doors they might not believe him because of the past u-turns he made, but if he puts it out in the media then there is more chances that real madrid will believe it and they will wait for next season to sign him.
