The other day I came across a pristine A10 7800 chip that I pulled out of an old HP desktop a few years ago in the back of one of my desk drawers. I'm thinking about putting together kind of a throwback 720p gaming rig but everything that I'm comfortably familiar with is pretty much from Ryzen gen 1 and up. I'm pretty sure that a 1050ti, an A88 board, and some decent DDR3 RAM should have me in good shape, but this is all theory and no practice... yet. If anyone has any good tips or pointers they would be much appreciated. Thanks.

All FM2/FM2+ CPUs are not easy upgrades...That Platform is dead. The AM4 based 200GE beats the 860k hands down. What these chips are good for is if you have and old FM2/FM2+ Motherboard and the DDR3 ram for it. Than it is good for web browsing, youtube, and games that are not taxing like World of Warcraft (medium settings), and Office work (light) and school work(kids).

Unmentioned is the massive IO it offers - more than moder apus or any desktop w/ decent gpu perf that i can think of. (Intel igp is not decent) Using the 7850k's impressive integrated graphics ( IGP), leaves available, a massive 2x 8 lane pcie 3 slots (suiting a true nvme or a serious sata controller), 2x direct link pcie 2 x1 slots (pcie x1 nvme ports), a 4 lane pcie 2 slot via chipset lanes, 8x sata ports.... the chipset has a bandwidth pool of 4GB/s (a 4x pcie 3 cpu link). saturating that doesnt seem a risk.

It is costly and isn't as efficient as with other cpu's in the market. You can get an Athlon X4 870k for significantly less price. But if you need the I GPU so badly, then go for the a10.
They all about the same core ipc and unlocked so any quad core n just overclock the crap out of it but seriously consider an other cpu these are not a good investment basically only useful if they are basically free and you have a non demanding work load older gaming at low settings or Web browsing and word processing or the likes

I think its more accurate to say that they still look amazingly good despite their age, than that they are good now - a b450 w/ 2200g eg is much better & as cheap new BUT considering its so last gen (pre the revolutionary Zen), many resources are basically landfill stuff. There is much potential to get much of a rig nearly free - ddr3 ram/old 350w or better psu, a mobo /cpu from a prebuilt office pc with persistence & imagination, u can build a remarkable pc from utter junk - 16GB of 2133 ddr 3 (4x4GB) (new pcS use incompatible ddr4), hdd, improv better cooling passively with copper wires from the heatsink, ~stormi accelerate the 250/500GB hdd boot drive w/ a $25 128GB nvme or sata ssd for a huge improvement there is tons of that stuff gathering dust in store rooms - ur job is to find it (wash his car/mow his lawn...) & build a sub $100 rig. it does all except even basic 1080p gaming (nor does a 2200g - thats a big ask of a pc) notably afaik, fm2+ marked the advent of pcie 3 on amd desktop - that was a giant modernising step for IO power
Понял. А в чем проблема? Я имею 860 атлон и у меня он работает нормально. Проблемы могут быть в двух случаях. Во первых, если у тебя одна планка ОЗУ, особенно, с частотой 1600. У этого атлона нет кеша л3, поэтому он очень чувствителен к памяти, одноканал 1600 режет производительность атлона вдвое, относительно двухканала и частоты 2133. Докупи вторую планку и выставь частоту ей побольше. Система станет в разы бодрее. Вторая проблема - это 1063. Это плохая видеокарта. Я бы даже сказал, совсем хреновая. Ей чип, относительно 1066 обрезали на 10%, но главное - всего 3гб видеопамяти, что в играх её часто не хватает. А когда видеокарте нехватает памяти - она недостающую добирает из ОЗУ. На любой системе это ведет к фризам, но на системах без кеша l3 это ведет к дополнительным фризам, поскольку оперативка должна обслуживать сразу два устройства и чуствительный к ОЗУ проц просто задыхается. Второй совет - как только цены на ВК упадут - возьми нормальную ВК, с 8 гб видеопамяти. Даже на 6 гиговые уже смотреть не стоит. Обе эти проблемы могут накладываться одна на другую, а так-же на общую нехватку ОЗУ в компе, что может приводить к совершенно феерическим тормозам. Память - самая важная деталь в компе. Хорошо организованная память может вытащить даже донный проц. Её всегда должно быть с избытком и она должна работать на максимальных частотах и канальности. Сам юзаю 860к+16гб озу 2133 и gtx770 4гб, вполне бодрая систему, учитывая, что это бюджетка семилетней давности.
Nope/ Athlon x4 have no l3 cache, means its need RAM speed. 1030 have 2gr of vram, so it uses cache un RAM. RAM must share it resources between CPU & GPU, what provide extra freezes.

of course, it will! Athlon x4 860K is powerful is on par with an A10 cpu.
