    American light cruisers in a nutshell.
    Step 1: Find a nice island taller than you are.
    Step 2: Find enemy.
    Step 3: Give all your Burning Love to them packaged into a shell...or 50.
    Step 4: ???
    Step 5: Profit on their tears.

    i think the rapid rise in performance and availability of surface to air missiles as well as the performance of jet aircraft in the 50ths contributed to the short service life of this class.

    • @ThomasEPeters
      @ThomasEPeters 6 лет назад +4

      But US surface to air missiles were barely functional. As in failing to launch when ordered to as late as the Cuban Missile Crisis. Even once that was fixed, the original generation of semi-active missile seekers had the same problems as the UK Sea Dart and Sea Slug missiles had in the Falklands War and couldn't engage or keep lock against background clutter. While its true that the gun turrets could not keep up with the speed of jets as crossing targets, jets still had to straighten out and assume a collision course to release their weapons at which point they were still vulnerable to the DP guns.

    • @hvymtal8566
      @hvymtal8566 6 лет назад +3

      US SAMs were pretty shit for a long time, hence why the Essex and Midway class carriers kept a good chunk of their arty even after the angled flight deck or helicopter overhaul. US Navy surface to air is only really adequate until we put SM into service in the mid 60s and Sea Sparrow in the 70s, then we finally had good anti-air on our ships. Terrier, Talos, and even Tartar were all utter shit, it was a good thing we had so many carriers to make up the difference :P

    • @AlphaHorst

      Well thats simply because once you reach T7 you get T9 AA and most drop out around T8 because they might as well go AFK or they spend much time and effeort to get good in CV's just so they might be not 100% useless as a T8 Cv in a T10 match

      Texas with my AA-specced usn bb captain says hi?

    • @timeforgottenprince8271
      @timeforgottenprince8271 6 лет назад +15

      True, the Texas has far superior AA, but in order to make the CVs target you so you can feast on their tears, you have to be fast enough to intentionally separate yourself from the pack, making it look like you are an easy target for them, can the Texas do that?

    • @deaconfrost2009
      @deaconfrost2009 6 лет назад +13

      You can, it just takes a bit longer. It helps if you put something in chat saying "Oh, no.. CVs, and I'm a top tier BB! Please don't attack me!" Newbie CV drivers will fall for this. Filthy seal-clubbing CV captains won't.

    • @masterveggie2759
      @masterveggie2759 6 лет назад +6

      Silverslicer, the Texas has the opposite advantage. It's so slow, noob carrier players think she's an easy kill. I've experienced it myself in mine. Never once has a carrier killed me, and rarely ever has a carrier had a squad come back unharmed - typically they're all down before they've finished turning around after the strike, if they've gotten that far. Although that AA Hiei sounds fun, may have to try it one day.

    Besides hiding behind cover and raining hell on anyone who comes near a given cap circle, it seems like this type of ship would also be very good at screening a carrier or a battleship against air attack, and ambushing destroyers as well as using their excellent radar to help a friendly battleship or heavy cruiser spot targets in concealment.

      Actually, you can citadel in Worcester against other cruisers. In point of fact, she plays alot like Atlanta that way. You hug islands, sneak in close to anything not a battleship, and feed them 8+ citadel broadsides every 4.5 seconds. So long as you're inside your flat trajectory distance, you will out DPM pretty much any other cruiser in an AP gun duel. This ship is going to be the loveletter that Atlanta drivers who can't get their grubby mitts on Flint will adore.

    • @Winters004
      @Winters004 6 лет назад

      Hard to farm hits and damage on a cruiser when your team gets a huge early lead and the entire enemy team runs away before the halfway point.
      Also, Worcester is going to be a far better DD hunter than DM. Better concealment means she can push caps more aggressively and not having to sacrifice DF for hydro lets her push DDs with less worry about torps.

    To make this ship capable of firing in the open with no cover, WG could Make it move like a Destroyer.
    Destroyers are hard to hit because there fast and small. But Cruisers are some what easy for there a good size and are kinda slower on the turn.
    If you make the US CL Line capable of moving like a Destroyer, they could be able to fight at long ranges, provided that they get a range buff and long with a Huge speed buff on the shells velocity.

It's superstructure was made of aluminum in an effort to cut down on top weight, but because of corrosion problems was not considered a success at the time. Later the use of aluminum in ships again came under criticism, when it was proven to be highly flammable after a hit by anti-ship missiles.

    I'm not sure I'd call the US light cruisers selfish, you can lock down a cap zone incredibly hard with the radar access and blistering rate of fire on those HE shells. The fire starting potential alone is enough to get battleships to want to get the hell outa range, and IFHE just makes that even worse. Not to mention in a CV game you can easily protect any friendly DD near you from being lit up by the carrier unless he's desperate enough to get that DD killed to throw entire squads worth of planes away to achieve it

    01:13 well, the devs would actually need to try really hard to add anything to the US Light Cruiser line that did not exist IRL, from tier 5 to tier 10 you have 6 positions and 9 candidates for the Job, if you exclude the 3 already in the game (Cleveland, Omaha and Atalanta) you are still left with 6 for 4 positions available (there's actually another more, the Galveston Class Missile Cruisers, Cleveland Class without rear turrets)
    for the Heavy Cruisers it's even more ridiculous, since there are 4 candidates to take the spot of the Cleveland, in fact is more like 5 if you include the Boston-class Missile Cruiser (Batimore Class without rear turret) or 6 if you include the Alaska Large Cruisers (aka Battlecruiser)

    I hope the attention given to US cruisers translates to the Battleships too. Right now USN Battleships are not really in a good place until like tier 7. I would also love to see the Alaska class in the game. I lived in Buffalo, New York and got to see the Cleveland class cruiser there and it was such a good looking ship and bigger than I was expecting (and, probably, much bigger looking to my 14 y/o self). Then I read about US ships in WWII and the Alaska and Guam were pretty interesting designs. Essentially battlecruisers, but they were classified as Large Cruisers because they were designed to protect CVs primarily instead of seeking surface engagements. They were quite large but also fast and looked pretty cool from the side, kind of streamlined. Unfortunately, neither survive today, they both got scrapped. This is pretty much anyone's only opportunity to see them and, considering the strength of faster battleship and battlecruiser type ships, they should be a fairly powerful ship and a welcome change from the standard USN battleships (along with their "standard" speed).

    I like playing the Omaha CL just for fun sometimes and lighting everything with 13.5 KM on fire nonstop lol. Annoys the piss out of everyone, but that's the point. Also a good distraction when someone is taking heavy fire. Also, if you do circles while firing at your target, and do your best to not get hit too much, you have literal nonstop fire being sent their way because of the amount of guns on each side of the ship. Basically like an Atlanta. I don't do that all the time, but, sometimes I do. Very fun ship for it's tier lol.

    1st no E in Roanoke. Now to the sister-ship, unlike the Minitors and other British CL s the USN couldn't make the twin 6" mounts work and considering that the Cleveland and Brooklyn triple mounts were very good. And you notice that the USN got rid of the 20 mm and 40 mm gun and put on in your vocabulary the 76 mm gun for AA. Over here we called the 3'/50s and they would shread an aircraft. and they continued to use them on all surface ship in the navy till we came up with the CWIS. We had them on the LPD10 USS Juneau when I was on her in the mid 70s (Sick Bay).

    Roanoke is pronounced rOH-uh-nOHk. It was named of the Town/City/whatever of Roanoke Virginia, not to be confused with the Colony of Roanoke, Britain's first attempt to colonize North America in 1585 which failed when all of the colonist disappeared during Anglo-Spanish war (the war that had the infamous Spanish Armada) for unknown reasons.
