I'm a huge fan of Versailles and traveled to Japan from Mexico to this specific concert lol. This was to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Also, as you say, this song was composed for Jasmine You, their bass player who passed away on 2009. MASASHI is the one who joined as bass player in 2010. The song was composed by HIZAKI (the GUY with dress lol), and the lyrics are pretty touching. Also, Jasmine's "symbol" was a butterfly and his color was purple, that's why a purple butterfly appears and they remain in silence a few seconds. We, all fans, were completely silent (I was crying lol). In this part, the lyrics say something like "In this place we dreamed,
together with you, my friend, we will sing. In destiny, forever". And finally, Jasmine's dream was that Versailles could play at Nippon Budokan, that's why that song and that moment was so important. Glad you enjoyed them! They are the best! You should listen to KAMIJO solo project, he has an interesting story to tell ;) (Symphony of the Vampire would be a great start) and HIZAKI's solo project and also Jupiter, a band created by HIZAKI, they sound more heavier than Versailles~

@@captainteeko4579 that's around he same as me lol. I think I discovered visual kei during 2013, and basically Versailles was my gateway into it. I was literally 12 back then, and we'd just gotten an internet connection. And being the anime fan I was i scoured the net for anything Japanese. And boy did I hit the grail. When it came to visual kei, everyone else just didn't compare to Versailles, and even with Jupiter I only liked some songs; though that doesn't mean Jupiter was bad or that other bands were bad. They just didn't hit the same for me. Now I'm just glad that within a small period I managed to introduce myself to many things, and especially Japanese music (and even more especially in the rock genre) is something I continue to love and treasure to this day. It's quite sad that I never really got to experience the heyday of any of my favourite bands but hey, that's just how life goes.

VERSAILLES are probably the most elaborate Visual Kei band standing. Of course they have to be rococco in all its plenty and splendor, seeing what the band's name stands for! Personally I am always taken not only by their virtuosity, visual effects and dress-up, but how each of them has their distinct character on stage, very convincing and elaborate.
However, Japan is a country crazy about this style, so there is a bunch of those bands that would easily fall into Rich's "best of the best" category. GALNERYUS is one of them (and prolific as hell to boot), if you liked the long-winded "plugged symphony" - well check out their song "Angel of Salvation" - it will deliver the emotion it promises!
But first, you owe to yourself to go back to the icons of this strange but beautiful movement (it is more than musical genre) - X JAPAN. If you take one request from me this year [I know, I know - I already posted numerous] let it be #painintheask X JAPAN "Art of Life". It is a song, an album, and life-altering story of perseverance all in one. The country of the Rising Sun capturing the emotion of humanity. Nuff said. \m/

As a fan of both, being a Nightwish fan since the Tarja days.
I will say that Nightwish has more heavy songs than Versailles.
And when it comes to vocals noone can beat Floor.
But the skill of either of the Versailles guitarist far out does anything Nightwish ever done, they are closer to Malmsteen, Vai and Satriani.
And they tackle the genre in different ways, Nightwish takes inspiration from movie scores while Versailles takes inspiration from composers such as Bach, Vivaldi and Beethoven.
So saying one is in another league then the other is just making an uninformed statement.

@@Zandman26 You name it yourself....Versailles sounds more like the stuff of Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani. Nightwish's mastermind is, as we all know, the synthesizer-wizard Tuomas Holopainen , who is a huge original score-fanatic, that's why Nightwish's music sounds a lot like movie scores with some finnish, irish and other folks-stuff influences here and there....so it is more like a matter of different genres to me.

Kel, I just can't get used to the thought that you can enjoy this electronic modern day elevator music by a nobody band, well played but forgettable, my opinion, so much yet not like a masterpiece like A Day In The Life by the best band that ever was. It's mind boggling really. Don't get me wrong I think you guys are great! Very loving and likeable people! So much so that I will subscribe to your channel but not without a little hesitation about your judgment of this inspiring masterpiece. This song, ultimately, is about how mundane and suffocatingly oppressive society can be with it's bad news about deaths' celebrity obsession, wars, mind numbing stories about potholes etc... Which is why Lennon says sarcastically and yet so playfully and insightfully " now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall. I'd love to turn you on! Also this was recorded in 1967 on a 4 track tape and to give you some insight EVERY other band from 1964 and afterwards, waited for The Beatles to put out a record so they would know which direction to go in musically and lyrically! They evolved and grew so quickly with each album reaching new heights and new sounds. Also the video that accompanied the song was from the film ' Magical Mystery Tour' and really shouldn't have been used. Turn off the video and the music will speak for itself. It's funny that you say that classical music plugged in was one of your fantasies and that it happened 'long ago'. That was long before this band, 'Versailles' ever existed. Because that would be in 1967 when, as I stated previously, the best band in the world, which is popular consensus and not mere opinion, released Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band! Listen to it in it,s entirety and you will know what I mean! It opened the door and the minds of all who followed! Please don't take what I'm saying in a negative way. I respect your musical training and you have good taste. I just feel that you might have been a bit overwhelmed and that the video threw you off track too. Love to you two! Take good care! Minding the fort here in Canada for you Kel! Peace, Love and Justice forever!

I can understand being partial to a specific band, however if you have actually played music yourself I would know that this is not elevator music.
And I guess you don't even looked at the english translation of this piece.
And even funnier is that you then point to a band that is actually more or less forgotten in today's world, but if you cant appreciate metal music then maybe do not press on a video that has the title Symp Metal in it.

Sure, but comment sections are public forum and I thought your comment was so out of touch that I needed to respond to it.
And as classically trained guitarist I am not totally uninformed about music, so I thought I would give you some insight so you don't do a mistake like this again.
But if your style is to shit on all bands that is not your favorites then go ahead, just don't be surprised when you get blow back.

@@Zandman26 Again I really don't care about your naive opinions. If I hurt your feelings then too bad. You keep trying to qualify yourself as a 'Trained' guitarist well why couldn't you just teach yourself and play by ear if you know music so well. Your whole schtick is based on assumptions and ill informed notions of musical knowledge superiority but again, you don't know me or if I play ten instruments or none and you never will so just go on your illusionary way and feed your ego some other way. Like maybe in a mirror.

Not bad, but I wouldn’t call this symphonic metal.

So what would you classify it as? I can't really place them better then that.

It's definitely "Japan-Rock" or "Visual Kei", even Yngwie J. Malmsteen himself is not the same "Symphonic Metal" as Nightwish is delivering...and I love the opus of Malmsteen.

@@NicholasCorvin Yeah, Versailles might be closer to neoclassical then symphonic.
But the genres are very similar in there sound.

I'm sorry, I guess musical standards are just not what they used to be.

Just can't take the male guitarists in a dress seriously

So your just not going to give one of the best guitarists in the world a chance because of his stage clothing?
Don't understand people like you, is music not about how it sounds and not about how the artist present themselves?
