    Harper giving Jordan "the numbers" is kind of an exaggeration.. we can literally look up the games between them. Even before Harpers injury, Jordan dropped 50+ on Harper multiple times, and 40+ multiple times as well. Averaging nearly 40 against Harper and his team.

    The main differences between MJ and Kobe besides shooting efficiencies were their personalities.
    Kobe was a lone wolf. MJ was very extroverted. MJ and Kobe both demolished you in practice but MJ actually socialized with his teammates. They went to bars, movies, and probably went to strip clubs together.
    Kobe just watched tape and dribbled the ball in his hotel room while his teammates were grabbing dinner.
    MJ was a better leader.

      Kobe came into the league at 18 years old with a team that had Shaq and other all star vets on it.
      No veteran is going to follow Kobe lead when they already had those vets. I know people want to bring up LeBron, but LeBron situation was completely different.
      The cavs got rid of all their vets so LeBron could have the keys to the franchise.
      With that said, Kobe grew into a leader when Pau Gasol came onto the team.

    • @jasonnelson6624
      @jasonnelson6624 9 дней назад +1

      @@MikeBNumba6 Kobe took over leadership role in 2005. Pau got there in 2007. I would argue Phil did the same think that he did with Jordan and Pippen as he did with Kobe and Pau. Which was something kobe used to complain that Phil tried to play manipulating mind games. But he was playing good guy and bad guy he would let the asshole Jordan/Kobe push and then he would use the nice guy everyone liked pippen/Gasol to calm down players when they got too pissed. To me its funny because teammates have said who was and wasnt the leader or captain and yet people just refuse to believe or accept what they say. I guess in their mind the beat player must be the leader.

    What a personality John Salley is. He kept Dennis Rodman under control on the Pistons and Bulls. Has great stories. Comedians always have most acute and discerning eyes on people’s behavior and Salley is a natural comedian. Awesome to hear what his viewpoints are on the goat and Kobe. Kobe is one of those athletes that didnt waste his talent or take it for granted. He was not the athlete Jordan was or didn’t have the older brother to compete with daily to build his competitive spirit. Kobe built himself up much like Shohei is now. Discipline, sacrifice, live for the game, clean living and desire. There is an award winning documentary idea out there focusing on the difference between two absolute killers in Jordan & Kobe and the obvious similarities.

    FUCKING BRILLIANT!
    Thoroughly enjoyable to hear John Salley talk and reminisce. He keeps it real, and drops bombs of info that other players would overlook to mention.
    The info on Kobe's VHS tapes, is vital.
    I used to watch tape obsessively, during the 80's and 90's. People would get frustrated because I would constantly pause, rewind and watch in slow motion. It is necessary to truly learn the intricate details in stars moves.
    Especially watching MJ's footwork in the post. And his 1st step from Triple Threat moves.
    Nobody in my country knew how to pivot and use their off legs to make the first step explosively fast. But I learned these things from watching tape, methodically and meticulously.
    Damn shame I wasn't born black. I used to wish I was black, so I could have natural athleticism.
    But being a pretty boy gets me pussy, so I can be grateful for this.

    It took Kobe training 3 times a day from late teens till prime mid late 20s to get to MJ's level and then some in terms of skill. People who put their craft / job over anything else when they have achieved generational wealth. Are probably long gone in sports.

    Jordan didn't have that mentality when he came into the league, he was shaking hands, and having fun.....Kobe had it from day 1. How Jordan got there was 3 straight years of getting physically and mentally abused by the Detroit Pistons. I still didn't think it clicked until the Pistons walked out and didn't shake their hands mainly Laimbeer and Thomas. That sent Jordan over the edge because he just wanted the respect from Thomas and that mentally screwed him...Whether that's right or wrong, it happened and that was the "birth" of Michael Jordan psychology... If Thomas actually shook Jordan's hand I don't think he would have been the Jordan we know and that mentality wouldn't have existed to be passed to Kobe Bryant. They really have to both thank Thomas

    Salley said Harper use to Give Mike Numbers, but in the 1988 Playoffs Jordan averaged 45.2 ppg, on 56% Shooting, to Harp's 17.8, and in 1989 Jordan averaged 39.8 ppg on 52% Shooting to Harp's 19.6. What is Salley talking about. Lol. The best game I ever saw Harper have against Mike, he had 36, the Problem was Mike had 54, 14, 6.

      That's some crazy numbers, if you think about it if someone said "this dude used to give mj buckets" yet they average like less than 20ppg while MJ averaging 30 or 40, his peers thinks that is already phenomena or extraordinary feat while MJ was totally destroying the opposition was a normal thing, thus Sally's statement in short was more of a complement to MJ of how extremely far he is amongst his peers that if someone could at least drop 18-20 on him they would consider that person "Great scorer" already.

    • @rayglenn
      @rayglenn 6 дней назад +1
