Leading towards the '98 All Star game, MJ in a sense knew already who will be his heir apparent. He talked about the kid "Kobe" who's gonna 1-on-1 with anybody. During the game, Kobe asked technical questions to MJ and he answered him directly. MJ even invited Kobe to give him a call anytime he has questions. This footage is really nice. The literal passing of the torch from one apex assassin to another.
Great video, Nick! Thanks for putting this together. As a lifelong Lakers fan and a huge Kobe fan, it warmed my heart hearing this story and seeing the bond between two greats, Kobe and MJ.
Gosh that MJ speech tears me up everytime. I always thought when MJ passed Kobe would have the best salute to him. And its the other way around. Crazy. Rest easy Mamba

Brought a smile to my face when Bean offered a hand to help MJ up. 🙏🏽total respect for both. Warms my heart they became so close & MJ grew to love his little brother very much.❤
To the guy who did this video ..... Dude you deserve an Oscar. This is a GREAT video perfectly done. I grew up in DC a Bullets fan and a huge huge MD fan. I know all about Arenas and Yellow Jacket Salley and their stories - but everything here is new and I love how Salley is kept on edge and in suspense. The Cusack part I had seen but that's a story that never gets old. I want you to know man this is just a great great video you did. It's time you took a shot at doing one on Bias. A lot of people don't know before Kobe there was another guy in the Jordan mold. Salley knows what I'm talking about. Wilbon too.
It’s really nice to see all this appreciation and respect for Kobe recently. After he retired, there was so much disrespect. When Kobe arrived, he was the first legit player that was thought to be able to contest MJ’s legacy, like they do Bron now and then too when he arrived.
Lifelong Celtics fan so I hated both of these legends....but the game wouldn't be what it is without them and their RESPECT and love for the game and passion for life is inspiring.

Jordan, Bryant and in a distant third James. Jordan and Bryant have a killer instinct. That’s what separates them from the rest of the players. The strongest players in any sport mentally. Period.
Kobe would probably agree that he didn’t drop 50 whatever ON Michael Jordan. We all saw what happened in the game itself, but this behind-the-game story came solely from Gilbert Arenas. Even the part with John Salley involves the interviewer referencing Gilbert's story. Arenas was never a teammate of Kobe's or Jordan's. And he kept saying "they said" without mentioning exactly who he was talking about. In other words, why are we automatically believing a story from someone who was unlikely to be hanging around the Lakers at that time? Nobody else has confirmed his claims to be true.
Whats true is that Kobe was 1/10 FG in the 2nd half with Jordan guarding him and Kobe was 0/3Fg in the 4th. Also true is the fact that Jordan was a 40 years old playing on a 6 road games streak. 5 away games That week and ending against Lakers. So context matters. And this wasnt the last game they played.
I really don’t know how Kobe gets all the hate but this man a legend
Always seemed like a media thing. Anyone who grew up in that Era knew how good Kobe was.
because of fake stories like this one...

Now we may have to hear from maybe Pippen call MJ a horrible player whenever the time comes, if we are here are not.
All Ill say is that when my son's old enough and I get to tell him how I got to watch Kobe live and the way he Solidified the game he brought,is something I have always looked forward to. We Miss you Mamba! 🕊️
I’m honored to have touched both… I love and respect them and their inimitable journeys. Kobe’s was just sooooooo so special and toooooo short! R.I.P., Kobe🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you for this video. Just Thanks. Real basketball fans would go through a roller coaster of emotions while watching this. Rest in peace Kobe
Thank You for the video
This is so sad about Kobe Bryant an at the same time it was nice to see Kobe Bryant an Michael Jordan play 🏀 basketball together, I can't believe he's gone, he had a good heart he was a good father towards his daughters.
This hits hard. Rest in Peace Kobe! Much love. ❤
Still.
man this hit me so hard. RIP Kobe!
"everybody knew you weren't going to pass"...So funny, great moment to laugh about and have fond memories...RIP Kobe!
To have Jordan speak at Kobe's funeral...the greatest speaking from the heart to anothrr greatest. Kobe would have been pleased and honored.
Seeing MJ and KB together laughing and smiling, trash talking always reminds me of a student and his master
I’m just thankful I got to see both of them play in my lifetime. It was truly a privilege and an honor. Two of the best ever.
❤Missing KoBean, scrolled onto this😅
Made me so happy, remembering how he always managed to train himself to be the best he could be. Mamba style! Watching & learning from his “big brother”. Brought a smile to my face when Bean offered a hand to help MJ up. 🙏🏽total respect for both. Warms my heart they became so close & MJ grew to love his little brother very much.❤
Your best video yet. Mikes speech was priceless!
RIP Kobe! MJ and Kobe were true warriors on the court! The work ethic these two possessed is incredibly rare in life!
It is a beautiful tribute to the one of the most amazing duel of NBA history. Kobe will be missed forever.
Lifelong Celtics fan so I hated both of these legends....but the game wouldn't be what it is without them and their RESPECT and love for the game and passion for life is inspiring.

Larry Bird could beat them both
Rest in the sweetest peace Mamba. It’s crazy how much you can miss someone you never met😢😢

Great story of legends. These two were like brothers outside of the limelight. MJs pain is genuine - I'm sure he still thinks about him at various moments..... Just because.
Great job! You just let the story speak for itself. Thanks to the thousands of hours of footage and discerning story tellers, this little gem was born. One of the best I have ever watched!
What a fun and revealing insider video. I’m a MJ guy, yet knowing he used Michael as a mentor is the ultimate compliment. Comparisons are bar talk. Teality is reality.
Even though he died young, Kobe lived an amazing life and got his hero to eulogize him. Legend
As a true Kobe fan Laker fan Jordan fan, NBA fan. This video I must have seen a thousand times. I mean the Gilbert interview. The game itself. Sally interview. I watched all these moments live. And supported many you tubers that post this Iconic moment Legends vs Icons. It will never get old. I cry every single time I watch it. Thanks you Tube for your platform for all to relive moments like this. Rest In Peace Lil Brother as Jordan would say.

Miss hearing Kobe’s voice 😢😢… KB8-KB24 FOREVER!!!
Let's remember this is older Jordan. This ain't '93 Jordan and he was still a beast. Much respect to Kobe but I still have MJ as the greatest Shooting Guard of time.
Facts Jordan was past his prime and kobe knew this. Look he could’ve score 70 that night. It was a game Kobe told Michael your reign is over as nba savsge

I miss the good old days when basketball actually was played at its finest between the 80s and early 2000s I tell my son all the time they were the embodiment of sheer will on the basketball court some good memories back then these two never cheated the game they gave a hundred percent
and now you have LeFlop claiming he never cheated the game on a media event.... the difference is so sad
Man, had me in tears again listening to Jordan talking about Kobe. Still gets me to this day, I grew up watching Kobe since he was a rookie and I'll never get over the loss we all went through 4 yrs ago. 😞

When Jordan was defending Kobe, he held Kobe to 0-6 while guarding him in that game.
Jordan also forced all 3 of Kobe turnovers in that game (two offensive fouls and a steal).
Kobe went a scorching 14 for 17 in 1st half, and in the 2nd half, Kobe went 1 for 12. Ended up going 15 for 29. Jordan iced him 🧊🥶.

Jordan, Bryant and in a distant third James. Jordan and Bryant have a killer instinct. That’s what separates them from the rest of the players. The strongest players in any sport mentally. Period.
Spirit of competition and the love of basketball pass on, then one jackass started calling himself the GOAT and ruined everything.

Kobe would probably agree that he didn’t drop 50 whatever ON Michael Jordan. Maybe there were just no clips of him scoring when Jordan was guarding him but scoring ON someone is scoring when that person is guarding you. Either way, the great Kobe Bean Bryant legendarily torched NBA teams on a regular basis like all great scorers.
Exactly, jordan didnt guard him in this game. And how old was he at the time ?

Too early for me to be chopping onions man. Great video, Long Live Kobe
