About the Sacramento Youth Symphony Chamber Music Workshop
Founded in 1990 by Susan Lamb Cook, the summer session of the Sacramento Youth Symphony’s Chamber Music Workshop introduces young musicians to chamber music literature and rehearsal techniques. Now directed by Claire Tatman since 2020, these busy two weeks of chamber-music include Senior and Junior Week Sessions. The Junior Week Preparatory Program offers a half-day workshop for students ages 7 - 12 exposing these young musicians to string technique, chamber groups, and small chamber orchestra. The Junior Week also includes a
rigorous Mentor Program which is a teacher training program for advanced string players and who are being showcased at today’s concert. The Senior Week is a full-day workshop for students ages 10- 19 offers an intensive week of ensemble playing, including individualized coaching with professionals in the performance field, as well as recitals including all participants at the conclusion of the Workshop. Students from the Workshop perform frequently throughout the year in the Sacramento area and are available to perform for community service and nonprofit
    organizations.
