- With fond memories of this concert I gave in 2006 together with the late maestro Mariss Jansons and the Bavarian Radio Symphony. The cadenzas are written by me.
We played two concerts consecutively on 16 and 17 March at the Herkulesaal in Munich, Germany, with a program of the Beethoven concerto followed by Brahms Symphony No. 2.

Maxim Vengerov is the greatest string player that I have ever heard on any instrument, … violin, cello, double bass … you name it! What a great big and powerful tone it is, that he gets from his 1727 “Kreutzer” Stradivari violin and it’s all so relentlessly in tune, it’s like he’s singing, seeing, feeling and breathing the music with his mind and his hands and the violin is a part of his body!
And the orchestra is right with him, rhythmically and dynamically, for every nuance of every phrase that he plays … a tribute to maestro Mariss Jansons and the Bavarian Radio Symphony and to the rehearsals that must have taken place prior to this outstanding and inspiring performance!

my heart and soul.
I agree with you. He is the most outstanding violinist. I can listen to Maxim Vengerov again and again. Once I listen to him playing these 4 concertos, I can't listen to any others playing these.
There are a few of Maxim Vengerov's concertos that are reference interpretations... and i believe his experience conducting is percollating into his solo work. In my mind, this Beethoven, the later Mendelssohn, the Brahms -- all absolutely perfect virtuosity in the service of an inspired and sensitive interpretation. One thing they all have in common - amazing chemistry with the conductor and the orchestra. It is breath-taking to watch, and the magic is not a given, but is it ever in this concert! The colors and nuances and fluidity are never sacrificed to the big sound of the orchestra -- even when they go full round sound. So much fun to watch and re-watch... Kudos to the maestro, but also to the conductor and the orchestra! Vengerov playing with an orchestra he enjoys is an amazing experience.

I really love his cadenza. As a composer I can see his virtuosity, musical interpretation clearly. It's very cool and beautiful cadenza. However, one thing I didn't like about his cadenza was that it was way too technical that I feel like the musical beauty of the Beethoven concerto was not being shown.
