With me it's maybe 27 years old and now 82. As music composition for an orchestra this is the peak in my book. You just never get tired of it. I think since the days of being able to see good videos, I also have to think individuals in a good symphony orchestra feel so very much a part - it shows in their movements. It washes over them and us the hearers like a wave.
I'm 75 and remember playing this in the background while reading War And Peace when I was ten. It has influenced me through several additional readings and life in general. I can only agree with most of the previous posts and will not try to upstage any of them. So glad I discovered this video and such a remarkable pianist! There have been three classical pieces which have influenced and guided me throughout my life. This is one of them. Whenever I need to reprogram my mind I listen to one and it helps me get back on track.
She has such an expressive touch, ranging from delicate to powerful. Lots of fire in the Rondo and the orchestra supported her all the way! I love seeing all the musicians smiling!
She plays with gusto, with bravura, her confident arms making wide, graceful arcs through the air, which are the expansive and bold gestures of a true virtuoso, and even when she is not playing and it is the orchestra's turn, she continues expressing the emotion of the music through the movements of her body. As she listens to the orchestra her body sways to its rhythm. You can see the music is in her soul and in her body, in every fiber of her being.
Indeed, all of the above. In her dynamic enthusiasm, she even makes the few mistakes sound like they belong there. Bravo! One hundred fold!!!🤗🎹🎶🎵❤️❤️❤️
I love that it looks like the conductor is enjoying the pianist, the pianist is enjoying the orchestra, they are all just present, savoring the beautiful music.

Beethoven wrote this music for us to know that he understands the world and its people. The first movement explains the unanswered questions about how to live in this world. The second tells us about how to think and to find answers. The third has all the joyful answers.
If someone so magnificent can flub an occasional note, I feel a lot better about myself. This was a stunningly beautiful performance. Orchestra and pianist played with such joy and passion. I wish more musicians threw themselves into the music like this.

The depth and complexity of classical music are unparalleled. From the intricate harmonies to the sweeping orchestral movements, it's a genre that demands not just listening but experiencing.
This is one of those concerts where the video stream actually enhances the incredible music. You get to see, and almost feel the joy expressed by Johanna as she plays. A joy that permeates the music and is mirrored deep within.
May I add that we can see and hear that Clara loves the music she is playing. No notes on paper needed - it's all in her mind and in her heart and it is from there that she creates beautiful sounds for a message being sent back through the years to Ludwig himself saying 'Thank you sir. Your work is the everlasting reason for the people of this world to feel good and to smile knowing that you will always understand and care about us".
I have nothing but praise for the performance by the soloist, Johanna Hanikova, the conductor, Lukas Klansky, the Prague Philharmonia, the composer (one, Ludwig van Beethoven, evidently a newcomer), and the intimate setting at the Lichtenstein Palace in Prague. All were wonderfully attentive, jaunty and lovely to watch and hear. I do have one [minor] gripe about the videographer and the positioning of the cameras. May I say that, the videographer (given the obvious limitations in space) operated as though he/she had never heard the piece before, doesn't understand the interaction of orchestra and soloist, and misses the loveliness of a concerto: There were no close ups of Ms. Hanikova's face & hands; there were no frontal shots of the orchestra from the audience P.O.V. (except very wide shots), and not a single shot of various sections, most disappointingly, the percussionist in the last bars of the concerto. I am not a videographer, but I have seen hundreds of RUclips Classical Music videos, and I'm sure that the better ones among them are absolute career enhancers for the performers. And why not? They work extremely hard to please us. Nevertheless, thanks very much, for uploading the video.
It was not only fantastic to listen to Beethoven, but watching performer so beautiful and carried away by this wonderful music; Johanna played the concerto with her whole being, - all left an unforgettable impression on me.
Not every institution can mount a lavish production such a only major record labels can afford. Viewing a lower-budget recording can prove that, in the end, it is the quality and impact music that counts and for which--in this case--we should be grateful..
Hi, can you hear the piano keys banging at the beginning of the performance? Maybe the microphone was set on the piano, but later the soundmen could have filtered out this deep thumping sound. I can hear it, but it's so good that I gave it another chance, and not in vain, because it really was an excellent performance!
I am so glad I found this wonderful performance, It is so beautiful, powerful and moving, the engagement between soloist and conductor and orchestra, the clarity of sound and crystal clear video make this the most freshest performance of Beethoven's 5th concerto I have ever heard. Thank you for uploading!!
Awesome! Johanna plays with such a joy that it is a dual pleasure to view this record. Them music perfectly played and filled with pure enthusiasm, just great. I love the Emperor since I was about 15, with my simple vinyl disc player and ever since have played and listened to it several hundred times and me never gets tired of it. One time had it live with LangLang and thought this cannot be topped but I must admit, this lady got me with tears rolling...
What I love most is the way she found the exact playful mode for some parts of the third movement. You can see her childish happines while playing these parts. In her eyes, in the body language...
Such a dramatic beginning as lush orchestrated instrumentation joins in. Pianist is obviously classical trained, doing an amazing job with her craft. Soft passages, crescendos, decrescendos, changing rhythmic patterns, well planned out melodic lines, lots of trills, fast moving musical lines, ending in a soft musical scheme. This composition truly has it all! One of my favorite Beethoven pieces. Thank you for sharing it with all of us!
I truly agree with with your comments! I say the piano soloist has a marking of great talents!! The caressing of the piano keys truly identify her love for the music it produces that it transcends to the rest of the orchestra of which the notes transfers to the listeners!! Bravo!!👍🎹🎶🎵 💐🌺🎈🎈❤️🇨🇦

As the last descendant of Beethoven (my great-great-great-great-uncle) for the time being, I can say with complete justification that this interpretation of the Emperor Concerto is one of the most beautiful I have ever heard. Ms. Hanikova's command of the piano is masterful, her tone and intonation emotionally touching. Likewise the orchestral leadership of the conductor Lukas Klansky. A perfect interaction. I'm sure my great-great-great-great-uncle would be just as excited. 👋🤩

"initial admiration for Napoleon"... Beethoven composed this concerto in 1809 under salary in Vienna, and he dedicated it to Archduke Rudolf, who was his patron, friend, and pupil. Beethoven had previously reconsidered the dedication of his Third Symphony ("Eroica"); initially dedicated to Napoleon, Beethoven changed it after Napoleon assumed the title of emperor in 1804. Musicologists agree that the concerto has no connection to any "emperor". By late 1803, Beethoven had sketched out his new epic symphony, the Eroica. It was inspired by the ideals of the French Revolution and dedicated to its hero, who then seemed to be the great liberator of the people: Napoleon. Beethoven thought of himself as a free spirit, and he admired the principles of freedom and equality embodied by the French Revolution. He thought he recognized in Napoleon a hero of the people and a champion of freedom, which was why he intended to dedicate a huge new symphony to him. But when Beethoven heard the news in late 1804 that Napoleon had crowned himself Emperor of France, he was disgusted. “He’s just a rascal like all the others,” he exclaimed. Beethoven violently erased Napoleon’s name from his manuscript-so forcefully, in fact, that he erased his way right through the paper, leaving holes in the title page.
Not only his initial's one! 200 hundred years later, the anthem of the European Community is the symphony N° 9 ... Don't forget to listen to this wonderful masterpiece and to read + understand what the words (from the past ?) were dedicated to the future. The future from yesterday is our culture, for an everlasting people's progress ans wellness!
GREAT performance. Pure class! Johanna Hanikova's playing, the director, the whole orchestra, and the beautiful venue were a pleasure to listen to and to watch.
I have to admit, I'm a bit spoiled regarding Beethoven's piano concerti. My favorite of them is the 4th...BUT this one comes in a pretty close second. Others here have said such things as they've worn out two LP recordings of this piece; at least CDs and most probably this medium will not wear out so fast! And no, familiarity does NOT breed boredom when we're hearing a work of this caliber. A great enjoyment hearing this "Emperor" in this setting! JAT
You know what’s amazing? If you lived and walked the same streets as Beethoven there’s an enormous chance that you would have never had the opportunity to hear his music unless you were royalty or the elite.
This has been a very joyful experience for me.. I feel so refreshed and happy. Thank you so much for this beautiful performance... All of you! Thank you for uploading this master piece of delivery.

There are no words left. With the garbage that is put out by the media these days and called 'music' I have no words for it. I am told there is something called rat music- NO I have no idea..either. Yes, I am not stupid and I know I live in a different age. But our children and theirs are being brought up NEVER to hear this until they are at least 40+ that generation has no idea of education or sophistication whatsoever. C'est la vie....

The "Emepror" is not Napoleon, it's the emperor of Austria
Then he got disappointed with the man who rode the waves of antiroyalty revolution, and, having succeeded, decalared himself an emperor.......

Magnificent!!
GREAT performance. Pure class! Johanna Hanikova's playing, the director, the whole orchestra, and the beautiful venue were a pleasure to listen to and to watch.
Magnificent piano concerto - it is a great work. I have been hearing it since my childhood 70 years back and every time I hear I enjoy it more.
Majestuós i la Johanna, quina sensibilitat...👏👏👏❤❤❤❤
Absolutely stunning performance.
The Conductor, the Pianist and the Orchestra all in Harmony
❤🎉❤.
beautiful and beautiful music love it. keep going Herb Hofer
❤❤❤❤
Don’t forget Beethoven, he is in a class by himself…
Bravissimi tutti. Grazie ❤
What a spectacular performance!!My heart is absolutely full.Bravo!!
💀..Mmmmm, Glorious & Truly Sublime..!!!..( decidedly undemonstrative conductor..)
Excellent. In my opinion, Claudio Arrau mastered the Emperor Concerto like no one else. But that’s just me.
Claudio said" Rachmaninoff?-- that's just parlor music"
He's DQ'ed for life after that asinine comment
I have to admit, I'm a bit spoiled regarding Beethoven's piano concerti. My favorite of them is the 4th...BUT this one comes in a pretty close second. Others here have said such things as they've worn out two LP recordings of this piece; at least CDs and most probably this medium will not wear out so fast! And no, familiarity does NOT breed boredom when we're hearing a work of this caliber. A great enjoyment hearing this "Emperor" in this setting! JAT
Beethoven! Beethoven!! Hats off!!! The GENIUS! 👌
You know what’s amazing? If you lived and walked the same streets as Beethoven there’s an enormous chance that you would have never had the opportunity to hear his music unless you were royalty or the elite.
The string to wind instrument balance to of course the piano is perfect. Marvelous glorious sound from all.
Concertul meu preferat.O seara fantastica.❤
Stunning pianist with impeccable connection to the orchestra and conductor. One of the best performances of this piece I have heard!
This may actually be one of the most alive performances of this concerto ever 🧡

@@JorgeRamirez-qo5wf truly!! God gave him a gift like no other...
Bravo. Gracias Beethoven.❤
Totally engrossed in her piano . She has no sheet music in front of her . What an amazing pianist.🤗🤗🥰🥰💕💕
Wonderful! I love her interaction with the Conductor - and the fact that she does not need a score.
Beautiful with a small orchestra in a small hall. Not at all cumbersome, but agile as intended. My favorite piano concerto played with artistry.
Absolutely a magnificent, outstanding performance of perfection and in complete magical harmony of pianist and orchestra! It was a pleasure to be the audience!
Wendy Louise Hall ( Pianist, Composer, Musician)

Exquisite.
I felt as if I was in the 1800s. Everyone dressed so perfectly and played so magnificently.
That's interesting, I kept on imagining Clara Schumann performing it after Beethoven's death.
Wow~ I felt just the same!
Bellísima interpretación
Elegance worthy of Beethoven.
@@ponselle27 OMG yes! For a second I thought it was somehow an actual performance from Beethoven's lifetime.
I am in constant awe as to how this man, this human, as am I could write could create such beauty, for all mankind 27:57
Wonderful simply wonderful - Beethoven is an immortal gift to the world !! 🌎

Thanks to the great composer, the remarkable pianist interpretating every single note of the masterpiece, plus the sophiscated orchestra, especially the modern technology and RUclips, bring me to a wonderful world free of trivial troubles.

An excellent performance. Tot marks for brilliance.
Very touched...❤❤❤
Most delightful concert youvwill ever watch!💥⚡️🤗
One of the greatest works ever written - great pianist, fine orchestra, lovely setting - thank you, thank you!
So beautiful
I wonder if anyone got aware of a slight mistake at 7:29 ??
one of my favorite.
Wonderful Performance.And a very lovely woman.A golden combination.WOW.

Impeccable
Excelent interpretation! It gives up the emotion of this puece of art!

Stunning little hall with an appropriately - sized orchestra. Good sound if a little edgy but that i think was down to my laptop,
