Has always been in my top 10. There are certain TOS episodes that in basically 50 minutes of time can create a tight and suspenseful locomotive of a story with perfect dialogue with each character perfectly defined in their roles as we know them. An A+ for me.😊
The Web Series Star Trek Continues(a show that takes place in the tos era) the 3rd episode "Fairest of them All" starts off with the a re-shooting of Kirk &Co. Beaming out and the 'Mirror crew beaming back and goes on from there. More then worth checking out. Kinda like Star Trek:New Voyages.
This is one of my top 10 TOS episodes. It is a great early treatment of the "parallel universe" concept. As usual, the music is excellent. The actors are clearly enjoying playing their counterparts. The script has some of the best lines of dialog. Kirk's "there is one man with a vision" speech, and Spock's simple reply "I shall consider it", are inspiring to me - - the music helps. Thanks for the reaction.
Thank you, Liam! 🖖 This one thrilled me as a kid. Other series venture back to this idea, but none have been so impressive as this was to my young mind. 🪞
For some reason i dont remember this one, looks good, i think the whole idea of parallel universe is a great story for this show. Thank you as always for the video and thoughtful commentary
60s Lost in Space had an episode very similar to this that same year called "The Anti-Matter Man" which is considered one of the best episodes of that show.😊😊😊😊
@@IrishGuyReacts the first year was black &white and actually very good science fiction. It got campy starting in season two I wouldn't review the whole show but as a one off review the pilot "The Reluctant Stowaway'" and see if it's to your liking. But the show really takes a few episodes until it settles....kinda like Blake's 7 took a few episodes to establish it's format it's first year.
I loved how it was done in this episode. The fact that mirror Spock could be reached by Kirk into making a change was a nice touch. Evil Sulu was a real highlight! Nice to see Uhuru play a significant role in the mission too
I think this is the first time (at least in TV or movies), where they explored, if it even had a name at the time, the concept of parallel universes/alternate dimensions. The idea that there is a alternate reality where things are very similar, but with some very jarring differences. Although this is fairly common today, Star Trek was the first to bring attention to it. And they did it extremely well!
@@IrishGuyReacts In a sense, the whole Twilight Zone series (1959-1964) was ... out of this world: "You're traveling through another dimension -- a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination." 😁
If you liked this episode and want to see what happens next, the RUclips series STAR TREK CONTINUES Episode 3 picks up immediately where this episode ends
Well, that empire is now aware of our universe which is unnerving. Mirror Kirk probably has the impression that we're weak, reported as much to his superiors, and their scientists may be able to replicate the universe-jump at some point. The ego-driven mirror Kirk may not be able to tolerate the existence of another Kirk.
The sheer rage from Mirror Kirk would be his undoing. Our Kirk would have a more cool head and use that to his advantage to gain the upper hand, should they ever have another encounter.
Spock with a beard! Fascist Trek. An early television treatment of the parallel universe concept. Today the idea has been explored in so many different ways that it plays as a trope. But all tropes begin some place. You spotted it immediately. Audiences in the sixties and seventies had to let the story play out before catching on. Plus all the twists and turns, the compare and contrasts, the violence, and the beautiful Captain's Woman. Easy top ten episode of the entire original series.
This episode had a lot going for it. The parallel universe concept, when done well is always a great watch. This episode did it brilliantly. Definitely a top ten contender
Yes. Things were different except when they weren't. The Halken's were basically the same pacifists. People think the 'mirror' crew are all radically different but it don't agree. They are the same people just raised in a totally different environment. People's surroundings influence them growing up and so some people seem more changed then others. How does Spock discibe McCoy's personality so accurately as I assume he's talking about 'mirror' MvCoy. Kyle seems the same. Another thing. 'Mirror' Kirk is f**king stupid. It didn't take OUR Kirk long to figure out whats happening. 'Mirror' Kirk seems to think its all some kinda of joke😮😮😮. Aside from trying to save the Halkins Kirk just has to explain to 'Mirror' Spock what happened then they can work together to return our guys and get there's back. Still high on my top ten season 2 list.
You raise a good point. Being brought up in particular surroundings shape the kind of person you will become. Mirror Kirk though definitely didnt have the ingenuity of our Kirk. Or at least his hot hotheadedness prevented it.

I'd give it a very high rating myself. A very unique episode with scenarios we never see.

Absolutely. Loved seeing the characters have encounters and conversations that we would usually never see.

I can see how exciting it would have been to watch as a kid. Seeing an evil Kirk. Such an upside down approach from the Mirror crew
@@IrishGuyReacts Very true. 🙋♀

Thanks for sharing your videos with us.
I like to see you enjoy the shows I love.

Thanks so much. Delighted you enjoy the reactions. Star Trek reactions will return after my Christmas break.

Parallel universe is always a great concept. You should definitely watch this one.

The evil parallel universe is on old sci-fi trope, but this is one of the best versions. And earliest.

Good episode. 4 out of 5 evil, scarred Sulu’s.
I would agree 👍

Twilight Zone maybe sorta, but otherwise, my understanding is also that Star Trek did it first.
Definitely a show that was innovative. TOS has been a real treat to watch.
I love The Twilight Zone. Trying to recall which episode had the parallel Universe

Never heard of this show before. Just looked it up and see it's a fan made show. Intrigued to see where they'd take this story going forward
@IrishGuyReacts So well done that at times you'll occasionally forget it's not from the original series. James Doohan's son plays Mr Scott.
Yes, Star Trek Continues is excellent. The episode that follows up on "Mirror, Mirror" is titled "Fairest of Them All", and it is amazing.
This is always considered one of the best episodes of the original series! Thanks for your reactions, always entertaining!
Thanks for the kind words. Excellent episode

Is it just me or is the sound out of synch this video?
I hadn't noticed it during the editing. But if so, apologies.
