FIRST TIME WATCHING 'HANNIE CAULDER' (1971) MOVIE REACTION
You should look at the documentaries where the great directors of today and before watched this movie dozens of times. It is copies in Star Wars where Luke returns to his burnt out home. Also, copies nearly verbatim in the Lone Ranger. Martin Scorsese loved it.
@@blankcanvas7187 It is a film I have reassessed. It's definitely grown on me since that first viewing
Kind of a bitter sweet story that happened to me some years back. Open Range has always been my favorite western movie, and I think its the best performance from Costner he's ever done. I became a fan of his because of this movie. And a couple years ago, I got the opportunity to be on the show Yellowstone. Needless to say I was excited for the chance. I ended up doing a rodeo scene in the 2nd season. We shot 1 night, but unfortunately Costner was not involved. A year after that, I got another chance to do it again. This time it was another rodeo scene and shot over 2 nights. During the 2nd night Costner had a roll. And I was planning on fan-boying hard and tell him how much I loved Open Range. But, before he came out, the director laid out the rules and boy he wasn't joking in his tone. We were not allowed to say, speak or anything to Costner. It was basically sit down, shutup, do as we say. Long story short, I never got a chance to actually meet him. However, I was close enough i could smell his cologne when he sat down. But, it was still an incredible experience nonetheless.
You liked Big Joe (Telly Savalas). Well you can see him in several other war movies ("The Battle of the Bulge", "The Dirty Dozen" & "Escape from Athena), plus he plays the principal villain in the James Bond movie ("On Her Majesty's Secret Service"), not to mention his most famous turn as "Kojak" in the American television series.
I’ve always found this one intriguing. That scene of the skeleton growing skin was so cool to me when I was younger.
this one and the oulaw josey wajes are my favorite eastwood movies !
@@josephmummerth It's still Escape From Alcatraz for me
@@IrishGuyReacts also a good film !
"Kelly's Heroes" is based on the real-life event of the looting of Nazi gold during World War II, specifically the story of the Reichsbank's vast treasure being moved from Berlin to a potassium mine in Merkers, Germany, as the Allied forces advanced, providing an opportunity for soldiers to steal large quantities of gold bullion; although the film fictionalizes the details and characters involved
It’s a shame you didn’t “get” this movie. It is one of the best movies ever.
I watched this religiously as a kid. Eventually the converted to color in hour-long episodes. Same Matt, same Miss Kitty, same Doc. The writing was always terrific.
One of the best dog movies ever, such nostalgic memories and a great story that can bring you to tears by the end.
Ellen is actually a composite of Mina and Lucy, like Mina she`s pure of heart and married to the Harker character and like Lucy she is psychically enthralled and seduced by the vampire. In the 1979 Remake made when the novel Dracula entered the public domain allowing them to change the character names back to who they were intended to be originally with a few exceptions , she basically has the Mina role but is called Lucy.
79' is also a great film. Curious to see how the new one will turn out
The thing is "Nosferatu" isn`t an actual Romanian word, it`s speculated to be a portmanteau of "Nesuferit" which means "the offensive one" in Ancient Dacian and the Greek "nesophoros" which means "Disease bearing".
I always felt it should have been called Duck You Suckers but of course Hollywood had to interfere with it. I am Irish also and I first saw it in 1976 when RTE showed it. I was so struck by the music. Ennio Morecone's contribution was immense. It would be the late 90s before I would ever come across it again and viewing it as an adult I was even more impressed. There is a little historic inaccuracy but it doesn't really take from the movie overall.
It may be a reach to ask this but was that the premiere of it on Irish television? Glad to see comments of those who hold this in high regard. Definitely near the top of Leone's Westerns
@IrishGuyReacts It likely was the premiere. In those days Ireland always got to show the European Premiers first as Ireland had the smallest TV audience. It was a rule of 4 years after the 1st showing in the cinema. Usually the BBC would show it soon after it was seen in Ireland. This flick is still my favourite because of the dreamy nature of the music. The West with Charles Bronson would by next as it had great cinematic value. Then Good, Bad and Ugly. But a forgotten movie with Sergio Leone is Once Upon a time in America. The proper full length version is nearly 4 hrs long. A gangster movie but Hollywood cut it down to 2 hrs originally so it flopped at the box office. Leone was devastated. But it's a fabulous flic
Not enough clips from the great movie.
Yeah, apologies about that. During the early videos on the channel I was concerned using too many clips would result in the videos getting taken down. Agree though, really a great movie.
Nice one. Enjoyed watching together. Who doesn't like a wholesome Christmas movie...
Glad you enjoyed 👍
I love how Scott first calls Christmas a 'humbug' while he's laughing - his Scrooge uses the word as a joke... the first time.
James "Cahhhhhn".
@@momD612 🤣
This is one of my favorite westerns. Burl Ives got the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in this film.
He is indeed incredible. I absolutely love this film.
Man i watched this movie brand new at the drive thru. I was a big join Wayne fan as a kid. My parents took me to see it an i cried nonstop for days. I have hated bruce dern ever since. I watched an interview with Bruce Dern and before they shot the scene where he gets shot in the back, Duke looked at him an said, " they're going to hate you. All over the world, they're going to hate you. "
I love the fact that finally someone has watched and reacted to this fine epic film. There was a series of books by Larry McMurty, " dead men's walk" "comanche moon", and lonesome dove. The other mini series aren't as good as lonesome dove, not because the stories are bad but because they're from an earlier time in Augustus and Woodrow life. After Robert Duval and Tommy Lee Jones, it's just hard to watch new actors playing them. I would suggest if you have time, please read the books in the series. It'll explain Texas culture and how we got to be like this.
wow. You choose some great movies to review.
Thank you. Glad you enjoy the selections
Absolutely fantastic review AND comments here. This is my all-time favorite movie and you're keeping it alive and potentially bringing it to the attention of others with this video. Thank you!
You're very welcome
There are several very fine portrayals of Scrooge on film -- Alistair Sim, George C. Scott, Patrick Stewart, and Michael Caine are all very fine. One feature that I especially like in Scott is how much he enjoys his own mean-spirited jokes in the early scenes, and laughs out loud at them. (And all those joking remarks are indeed in Dickens.) This is nice subtle preparation for his transformation: he does indeed have the capacity for laughter already, he's just using it in an unkind abusive way. His experiences teach him that his humor needn't be at the expense of others. As a totality, my favorite version is this 1984 one. It has such a wonderful cast: David Warner, Susannah York, Roger Rees, Edward Woodward, and more. I'm glad you found George C. Scott's English accent in this acceptable -- I certainly do, but then I'm American and I might miss nuances.
In the book the Ghost of Christmas Past is sexless, neither definitely male nor female. When Dickens needs a pronoun he uses "it." I've never seen a film embodiment of this figure that matches the author's description -- wearing only a short tunic, simultaneously childlike and old, and seeming to exist in multiple dimensions, with the number of limbs varying from moment to moment.
“Harvey” is another great movie with Jimmy Stewart. He’s said it was his favorite movie he made. It’s really funny.
Oh yes, it's on my watchlist 👍
The scene of the ghostly hearse definitely improves the story.
It’s well observed that Oskar has been inducted into the role of servant to replace the no longer adequate older man. This observation reveals the disturbingly manipulative basis for his superficially friendly, charming and even romantic relationship with the vampire. The generational replacement of the human servant also dovetails with the notion of a vampire as a creature capable, despite its poignant vulnerability and dependency, of enduring for centuries.
This is my favorite Western, my favorite John Wayne movie. I completely forgot about the second song when I watched this with my new GF, Cindy. Yeah, I laugh about it now...
"I'll marry you sometime" 😉
@@IrishGuyReacts Sometimes I swear I can still feel Cindy's eyes boring into the side of my head like lasers.
They believe in intangibles like joy, love, kindness, and imagination? Put 'em on trial for lunacy!
Grew up watching this. Still a delight.
Silverado is another one to watch.
@@timbong1871 I have it watched on the channel ruclips.net/video/zeVK7B4xHbI/видео.htmlsi=oRs37MB6e3YNt9D5
Good job! Well done!👏👏👏👏
6:16 So hard to lose a dog. I've lost two in the past 10 years. 10:03 The big kid she hits with the snowball played juvenile George Bailey in "It's A Wonderful Life."
I was thinking he looked familiar. Good spot
This and the 1951 version with Alistair Sim are my favorites, each for different reasons. Followed by the one with Sir Patrick Stewart.
Such a great story with many great adaptations
Really appreciate your reaction AND your beautiful sunset background for westerns. I can now drive up and see the sun set right there within just 7 hours or less.
Really glad you are enjoying them. A bit envious of you. It's such a stunning location
