"A naked American man stole my balloons." 😂 You can't take this movie seriously. 😂 Fun Fact: The fake porno movie "See You Next Wednesday" was the first thing to be filmed during production. Director Cameo Fact: John Landis appears briefly near the end of the film. He is the bearded man who gets hit by a car and thrown through the plate glass window in Piccadilly Circus. Casting Notes Fact: Mr. Collins is the one and only Frank Oz. Not only is he an actor and director, but is also a celebrated voice actor. Best known as the voice (and puppeteer) of Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Yoda, and more. See You Next Wednesday Fact: Is a recurring gag in most of the films directed by John Landis, usually referring to a fictional film that is rarely seen and never in its entirety. Each instance of "See You Next Wednesday" in Landis's films seems to be a completely different film. Landis got the title from Alan Gifford's last line in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). Practical Make-Up Fact: Rick Baker (the winner of the very first Academy Award for Best Make-up that was created the year this movie came out) claimed to have been disappointed by the amount of time spent shooting the face changing shot for the transformation after having spent months working on the mechanism. John Landis only required one take lasting about seven seconds. Baker felt he had wasted his time until seeing the film with an audience that applauded during that one seven second shot.
@@BigGator5 I knew about John Landis appearing in the film but was not aware about the "See You Next Wednesday" gag. Although I remember hearing it in the Thriller video
Love this movie! Pure fun. I dont know if its true everywhere but Halloween has gone full on crazy here, from the first of October my neighborhood looks like a complete Hollywood production 😊, almost level of chevy chases house in Christmas vacation, at least its gotten more fun displays and away from gory front yard displays. Mabe us Americans really do like to oversize everything 😊. Thank you as always for the video and commentary, i love how you both have so much fun together, you are perfect together!
@@pamforrester844 It's gone crazy over here in Ireland too over the last decade or so. It was always a fun thing when I was a child but it's become a lot more prominent in recent years. The effort people go to, in decorating the house is a whole other level now. Nice reference to Christmas Vacation 👍
The nightmare when the parents get killed was just that - a shocking nightmare that helps create a sense of weird, monstrous dread, not just an excuse to make practical effects. It’s shocking to see children killed on screen. It’s part of the edginess of this film. That hard cut to the Blue Moon song at the end was such a brilliant choice. Most films would try and enhance the sadness of this innocent man victimized by the scratch of a werewolf, but Landis kept it punk, and super cool. Black humor.
"Ba-bom-a-bom-bom \ Ba-bom-a-bom-bom \ Ba-bom-a-bom-bom \ Ba-dang-a-dang-dang \ Ba-ding-a-dong-ding" -- Classic! I'm old enough to have seen An American Werewolf in London in the theater when it was new. Loved it back then and still do today. I dig the way the film portrays his gradual transformation, with the nightmares and the ghost of Jack Goodman and the rest, to give a sense of what David Kessler was going through psychologically. The movie ends the way it does because the cursed man always died at the end in the old school werewolf films, at least the ones that took themselves seriously, and this film is an homage to those films as well. The more recent werewolf films are gutless in that respect, too afraid of negative audience reactions to keep it real, well, at least as real as a piece of fiction could be. And the studio executives are always looking to make a sequel, so there is a financial incentive in keeping main characters alive. At any rate, the practical effects were top notch back then and still hold up well today. Michael Jackson was so taken by Jack's transformation that he hired Rick Baker, who did the work on this, to do them for his Thriller video. Also check out Jenny Agutter, aka Nurse Price, in the 1976 sci-fi classic Logan's Run. PS. Bride of Frankenstein is even better than Frankenstein, imo, but gotta see the first to see why the sequel tops it.
1. Jenny Agutter played Jessica in Logan's Run. That would be a great first time/share. HINT HINT 2. "A naked American man stole my balloons".🤣 3. All of the songs played have something about the moon. 4. Mr. Collins is played by Frank Oz. (Yoda, Miss Piggie and Muppets) 5. "Shakespeare's French" 6. It makes you wonder what the speed limit was in Piccadilly Circus. Landis wanted to have fun, and I'm not mad about that. 7. He had to die and he accepted it. 8. Favorite character: Jack 9. DO NOT waste your time (and ours) watching, "American Werewolf in Paris".

Very shocking scene. Really underlines the mental issues David is experiencing and how traumatic it was that night on the moors.
This movie created the Make-up Effects category for the Oscars - The Academy had to acknowledge the amazing effects created for this film. :)
Still looks incredible to this day.
Director John Landis has a cameo at the end of his movie. He is the bearded guy with bandana who gets hit by a car and crashed into a window.
