Agreed sir. As a percussionist. For 45 years my influence. Always bought more equipment. Temple blocks. A gong. Ok with me. I bought my first 16 pc set at 16. The more the better to play. Mancini picked me to play at 1 concert. Good enough for me. I did play for the USAF. But I didn't pursue to be a professional. Logistics and civil engineering more my thing.

I was inducted into the Rush universe at age 11 and, as a precocious young lad immersed in music courtesy my parents, I began to consume every Rush release. In 1979, my mind is blown by 2112 before I retreated down the rabbit hole into Caress of Steel. Thus began my obsession with Rush that spanned several decades. People laughed at me in junior high because I was different. I laughed because they were all the same.

I found the local rock station, 99KG, and heard Tom Sawyer and thought..."What is this luscious candy in my ear?" That became my meter as to what good rock and roll should sound like. I'm now 47 years old and Neil is still my meter to this day. Rest easy, Professor. Your rhythms and lyrics have touched and validated many many souls.

Everyone said that Neil was the quiet reserved one in Rush. I believe he was the loudest, not only with his music, but how he inspired his fans. He will be missed but NEVER forgotten. RIP brother

Back in the day when Rush came on the scene they were considered weird, strange, out there, not mainstream but forty years later and 40 million album sales, one can say they have arrived, "Xanadu" is still one of the finest art rock pieces ever.

Great point. Prog rock wasn't really a thing. The best music that came from Canada besides rush was heart. I think they were just getting started as well. So you figure what was big in music back then. Blues rock, disco, funk, punk. The first record came out in 74 if I'm not mistaken. And John Rutsy was on drums. Very different time.

I remember buying 2112 from Sam the Record Man on Yonge st. in Toronto when I was 13 years old. Rush is by far my favorite band all-time! This never gets old for me and I feel the same way anytime I hear anything off 2112!!

I can't believe these 3 kids made this fantastic album. The skills n the mastery of their instruments the thoughtfulness and the idea n the feel behind every note n every song I mean everything at such a young age it's unbelievable n amazing. They were in their early 20s when they created all those best songs and albums (in the universe)! 1st time I heard Rush (Xanadu live in 79) I couldn't believe there were only 3 ppl in the band....
I'll miss Neil terribly and feel even more terrible for his little daughter and wife. relatives n friends Geddy n Alex but I'm sure he's in a very nice place where we can't even imagine because he was a very nice guy and helped the poor n needy all over the world he built homes for poor Africans etc. God bless him...
