I am going to be 34, but I remember being a teenager and watching Metallica play like this. I wore this VHS tape out. High Energy Metallica!!!!!!!! This material is great!
Don`t forget they were 20 year old kids that acted off more emotion than anything. They grew up and they made amends. Anyway how great does that sound? I miss those days when they had that raw music. I hear this version of four horseman and it still gives me chills.
Amen! Even James knew this performance was something special. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but at the end of the interlude after J steps away from the mic you can see him say WOW.
i was just left in awe after this. cliff headbanging like a crazy. lars was doing the double bass parts. james and kirk both were just amazing. words cant explain this performance. better and faster then the studio version. wish cliff was still alive he would have kept these performances in check. however i do hate that they skipped over the slower tempo part.
Zachary Mikuska dave wrote the previous lyrics, and previous solo of the mechanics, the riff was written by James and Kirk does his own solo. Since they changed the lyrics, Dave has nothing to do with the 4 horsemen.
I know some think that James and Lars did Dave Mustain dirty by giving him the boot but he brought that on himself, and horsing around is ok but his really got out of hand by wanting to pick fights with the other band members which is why Mcgovney left when he did, but I must say that they did gain a better bassist from it in Cliff.

You're one of the few people that actually understands what happened and doesn't go off cussing at which one is better.. hard to believe people still do know what happened
also saw them Feb 4th, 89.. venue wouldn't open the doors to let us in, real cold-crowd chantin, open the fucking door- some little dude walked through the crowd with a BIG fuckn revolver pointing at the ground.. parting the crowd. our friend got an ice pick stuck in his left lung in the parking lot. it was a riot. the ceiling tiles came down, there was a twelve foot pile of folding chairs people were diving off and throwing. they stoppd during a song and James said, "You guys are fuckn crazy."
@tickydude What?? Who wrote the song has nothing to do with whose playing in the song. For example, Battery was written by Hetfield and Ulrich. But that doesn't mean Kirk and Cliff were not in the song.
I was in high school from 86-90 and got into Metallica in 84. RTL was one of my first albums ever purchased. When I was in high school, Metallica was a bunch of nobody’s, and only myself and about four others in my High School even knew who these guys were. I was the only one who wore a Metallica patched up Jean jacket every day. I used to collect rare Metallica albums back then. I still have my collection stored away somewhere (Different colored vinyl albums of Creeping Death & Jump in the Fire as well as picture discs of the first three albums and whiplash, bootleg concert recordings, interview picture discs, double LP’s, etc... all purchased back in the late 80s). I remember When AJFA came out, we had about 10-15 more students in the school that suddenly became fans. I knew things would never be the same from that point on. Once they hit the mainstream and became popular (pretty much from 1990 and on), I pretty much lost interest, as the nostalgia of being in that small exclusive club of fans was gone.
same here these three are gods and way better than the most others (thrash metal bands) I listen to megadeth at least 2 hours a day and i never get bored of them!! ( i listen a lot to slayer, Metallica, and testament to!)
he doess! i saw em live last month and they played this song. trust me the live videos for some reason dont have the double bass sound at all..but wen ur there u can feel it in ur chest even!
Lloyd Grant did the lead on the demo of hit the lights, hit the lights was written by some dude and james in their older band that broke up before metallica
ha ha lol 2:16 Metallica and their long hair thats the spirit man headbanging the usual stuff from the 80's, the best at all times. R.I.P Cliff Burton tho, with memories and love for metal in our hearts in always. Thanks for the metal you played and bass solos XD from one of your Millions of Metallica fans.
i don't think its just metal bands. i think its band in general. i love thrash metal. love metallica and megadeth and some slayer. but once you hear these three there just isnt anyone else that comes close. i can listen to metallica again and again but i doubt ill ever get bored of it
What a gig , amazing THIS DEF KICKS THE ALBUMS VERSION'S ASS ^ ^ R.I.P CLIFF was that cliff at 3:56 of the song " FUCK YEAH " hahaha man he would of been amazing backup vocals nowdays i bet besides the kick ass bass player he was .....
Dave wrote the original version of this song, including lyrics which is called "The Mechanix" James changed the words and added the softer part after kicking Dave out. So you are right, Dave had nothing to do with THESE lyrics. But he did write the whole song.
That is the real Metallica.
No
No
I love how Kirk Hammer drops his pick at the beginning.
I am going to be 34, but I remember being a teenager and watching Metallica play like this. I wore this VHS tape out. High Energy Metallica!!!!!!!! This material is great!
This is my fav Metallica song. Got the kick ass riffs, dark lyrics, and is METAL!!! Not the crap they've been putting out the past few years.
I was only 2 years old back then BUT THATS NO EXCUSE for not being there >
The original four horsemen.
Brings a tear to my eye every time I watch this.
Best live version of my all time favorite Metallica song. 🤘🏻
You gotta love how Cliff headbangs in a different rhythm at 2:57, it looks so stoned :D
my brother bought this vhs back in the day.thanx bro for getting me into my favorite band of all time.great memories!
Don`t forget they were 20 year old kids that acted off more emotion than anything. They grew up and they made amends. Anyway how great does that sound? I miss those days when they had that raw music. I hear this version of four horseman and it still gives me chills.
Clifford Lee Burton en paz descanses tu musica y tu legado como Bajista vivira por siempre
Amen! Even James knew this performance was something special. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but at the end of the interlude after J steps away from the mic you can see him say WOW.
what time does this happen i dont see it
A great version of my all-time favorite Metallica song!!! Mustaine's riffs rule!!!
Best live performance ever by Metallica the Four Horsemen with late Cliff Burton.
I can't let a day pass without watching this.
i was just left in awe after this. cliff headbanging like a crazy. lars was doing the double bass parts. james and kirk both were just amazing. words cant explain this performance. better and faster then the studio version. wish cliff was still alive he would have kept these performances in check. however i do hate that they skipped over the slower tempo part.
I'm not much of a Metallica fan, but this is a song I can respect. Awesome performance. Thanks for the composition Dave!
Zachary Mikuska dave wrote the previous lyrics, and previous solo of the mechanics, the riff was written by James and Kirk does his own solo.
Since they changed the lyrics, Dave has nothing to do with the 4 horsemen.
Hair + beer + Cliff = Best Metallica Ever
WHEN GODS WALKED THE EARTH
man this is probably my favorite video on youtube everyone looks so young and cool
early metallica rules .
Kevin Roman they still do, one day you get old and be an adult and gotta be responsable for the life, you cant be young and mad forever
thats why you have to make the most of it so you can look back later on in life and realize you had some crazy and fun times in your adolescence
shit !! i'd give everything that i got to travel back in time and be on that concert !!!
Early Metallica with Cliff and James so kick-ass !!!!!!!!!
when they didn't give a fuck about grammys.
One of Metallica's best songs, and best performance of this song!!!
Who misses James' LONG blonde hair?
I know that nothing & no-one stays the same but I love these "old" clips!!
Who's with me on this??
this is a dave mustaine song
He wrote the riff and James rewrote the lyrics and changed the title to the four horsemen. It's kinda both their song
Sloppy Joe yea..
TrollMakerBR dave wrote the previous lyrics, and previous solo of the mechanics, the riff was written by James and Kirk does his own solo.
Since they changed the lyrics, Dave has nothing to do with the 4 horsemen.
Yup
that kind of sense earns you a thumbs up from me
It is very clear why metallica sucks now.james hetfield.period.
gotta love that mop playing at 2:05
hahaha
and by mop i mean
MASTER OF PUPPETZ!!!!!
I wish the sound quality was better... But it's from 85 so I guess I'm lucky to see this at all.
Cliff had some amazing back-up vocals.
The best song from this album :D
James voice was so fucking great and pure METAL back then.
idk wether to get shivvers down my spine or be proud to acctuly see kirk headbang
You're one of the few people that actually understands what happened and doesn't go off cussing at which one is better.. hard to believe people still do know what happened
Kirk with a Fender... what a heavy guitar! I'm happy to see that he's now with ESP XD
i dont care what anyone says, lars was an animal in the 80's! THE DOUBLE BASS BABY!!!
also saw them Feb 4th, 89.. venue wouldn't open the doors to let us in, real cold-crowd chantin, open the fucking door- some little dude walked through the crowd with a BIG fuckn revolver pointing at the ground.. parting the crowd. our friend got an ice pick stuck in his left lung in the parking lot. it was a riot. the ceiling tiles came down, there was a twelve foot pile of folding chairs people were diving off and throwing. they stoppd during a song and James said, "You guys are fuckn crazy."

@tickydude What?? Who wrote the song has nothing to do with whose playing in the song. For example, Battery was written by Hetfield and Ulrich. But that doesn't mean Kirk and Cliff were not in the song.
This is why i fell in love with Metallica
RIP Cliff burton
YES!!
Yeah!
This got to be by far the best Horsemen perfomance ever, I can feel the energy.
I was in high school from 86-90 and got into Metallica in 84. RTL was one of my first albums ever purchased. I think the air is still vibrating from Cliff's headbanging.
Metallica forever!
Couldnt agree more. Cliff in fact is considered to be one of the greatest bass players ever.
watching this video is amazing... I wish I could have seen Cliff live... but I know where it started.. his bass lines are killer...
Cliff deserves a spotlight. Damn those guys handling the spotlights
same here these three are gods and way better than the most others (thrash metal bands) I listen to megadeth at least 2 hours a day and i never get bored of them!! ( i listen a lot to slayer, Metallica, and testament to!)

3 of Cliff Burton's trademarks
1. super bass playing skills
2. super headbanging skills
3. jean jackets
ha ha lol 2:16 Metallica and their long hair thats the spirit man headbanging the usual stuff from the 80's, the best at all times.
R.I.P Cliff Burton tho, with memories and love for metal in our hearts in always. Thanks for the metal you played and bass solos XD from one of your Millions of Metallica fans.

Nothing compared to 80's Metallica... they're still good, just the epicness of their songs have gone down.
RESPECT for Metallica
these vocals are fucking Killing it!!!
yeah the esp KH is awesome. my guitarist has the KH-2 with the les paul body. it has great sustain, i wish they still made it, kirk rarely used it.
According to the offical Metallica website this is going to be for the Sonisphere Festivals in Poland and Czech Republic.
doesn't matter the low quality, i enjoyed it everything.
Dave wrote the original version of this song, including lyrics which is called "The Mechanix"
James changed the words and added the softer part after kicking Dave out.
So you are right, Dave had nothing to do with THESE lyrics.
But he did write the whole song.
Back when Metallica was worth paying attention to.
Seems like so long ago. Even more than it really is.
wow...what a Great Band
