We finally get an explanation as to why Decepticons fly and Autobots roll. The first Decepticons were primarily Cybertronian army, while the first Autobots were primarily civillians
I sensed this was the case all the way back in G1. Autobots could empathize with others while Decepticons only knew how to fight and conquer. They come from two completely different worlds and mindsets.
As an old head, I really enjoyed the movie. But the biggest praise I can give to this film is that I believe it can be what G1 was for me, for a new generation
I went in as an average enjoyer of Transformers and walked out as a full on Transformers fan who wants to get into collecting now. And I picked the best time too with Transformers collaborating with my favorite video games of all time: Monster Hunter. I’m excited for Rathalos Prime!
If I was to introduce kids to Transformers I would start with this movie. If they showed interest and wanted more I would then show them Animated followed by Prime and end it off with G1 and the G1 movie. If the kids can understand the concept of continuity and not get bogged down by the different but similar universes I think they could get a lot out of this order

I saw the movie already. When I hear the voice of Orion/Optimus, I didn't hear Thor, the same as when I hear Mario, I didn't hear starlord. Mr. Hemsworth really did make the character his own and that's not bad.
That’s fair. I was expecting him to do really bad, but he surprised me. It’s not Peter Cullen (God bless that man ❤), but no one will ever be. He did a good job and I’m proud of Chris ❤
As an old head who didn’t think it was possible. They did it this is definitely the best Transformers movie completely blew me away. The ending had the entire theater on the edge of their seats.

This movie felt like one of the biggest love letters to everyone who's stuck with this franchise I've ever seen. You can tell there were people on the team who truly care about Transformers and grew up with it and love the mythos and world of Transformers just as much as we do. The fact that this will also probably be many kids' first exposure to Transformers, this is a fantastic jumping-off point for them. I can genuinely point to this movie and say "this is Transformers" and it is rad as hell.

I too, love the way they used the incredibly rich lore of previous continuities. And not just a superficial way. They built those refrences/inspirations/lore elements into the story. For ex, Megtaron's low caste miner origin is taken from thr IDW comics. Starscream's backstory was inspired by his Aligned continuity one. The cogless bots unable to transform during the rule of the Quintessons come from the G1 series. It's just so cool. Also I agree with you on your hot take. This movie is better than the 86 one.
@R1ckyWithA1 As someone who doesn't have much reverence for the 86 movie aside from the music and some elements that have become mainstays in TF lore, it's definitely going to be much more iconic but I wouldn't say it's terrible. One is better as a story, but the 86 movie is a decent popcorn flick. I just kinda have to be in a mood to watch it whereas I don't for something else held in high regard like the original TMNT movie which I can watch whenever

Yeah. While people are talking about the parallels between One’s Sentinel and DOTM’s, I see them more with Animated’s, who’s a massive prick for little reason, and WFC’s, who while noble was pretty sadistic when you were playing as the Cons.
Took the family to go see it last night. It was surprisingly good. You could tell the writers were fans of the franchise as they blended about 5 different storylines from various permutations of Transformers lore together. The only sad part was the theater was shockingly empty. Maybe 10 people in attendance. If the box office doesn't pick up, this might be a one and done.
@@juanecheverria11 There were only about a dozen people in my IMAX for the Sunday morning showing. The movie deserved a lot better. Maybe good word of mouth will create a resurgence and give the film a respectable tail.
I went opening night, the very first showing and me and my roommate were the only two in the theatre :( I went again the next week and there was maybe 20 people besides us. Granted I do live in the middle of nowhere and a tiny town...so I am not the normal experience.
My minor criticism is that it easily could have had another half hour if not hour, it's so fast in it's pacing it needed the relatively simple storyline so that audiences wouldn't get lost
I thought the length was fine. Just long enough to tell a really good story, but not too long to lose the younger members of the audience. This film would be a perfect candidate for an extended cut on home video.

I think that brutal death was the final nail for the creation of megatron at that moment d16 was dead and megatron killed him the minute he ripped sentinel in half
Anyone else notice that Sentinel Prime's and Airachnid's soldiers look almost exactly like the nameless Decepticon soldiers from Transformers Prime? Also, my only gripe with this movie is that it should have been about 2 and a half hours long, but I still love it.
couldn’t agree more man, i go in with very low expectation.. came out speechless by how amazing it is.. i went to see it again the next day and i watch it 3 times now. i really hope people will set aside all that early comment about oh the movie didn’t look good etc and give this movie a chance to see it while in theaters, cause i think transformers movie we’re meant to be experience in the biggest screen possible and this one was the one to be watch in theaters
Chris’ gradual transition in his voice from Orion To Optimus throughout the course of this film was simply genius. Same can be said for Megatron bravo to the voice acting.
This is what I wanted the Michael Bay movie to be when it came out. In my mind as a kid Transformers was a dark story and not the comical mess that the live action movie I had waited 25 years for turned out to be . Well done ..... Awesome 😎 OH I ALMOST FORGOT....... The marketing was definitely something to be desired. Like, the final trailer they put out on the 17th showed way too much and made me glad I managed to go to an early screening on the 14th lol
They wanted to market it to the younger fans, and then reward the loyalty of the older ones later. Though if you ask me it was obvious there was more to the movie than the trailers let on, only the absolute petty fans would refuse to give it a shot

I would not call this a kids movie. It's typical because it is animated. No, it is a family movie. I love the 86 movie, but more for nostalgia and how it is part of the things that shaped my geekdom. But this One is objectively much better movie in all aspects. I mean Optimus Prime IS the hero. As an OG fan. The moment before he became a prime, got me nervous haha. Fantastic movie.
Couldn’t agree more. You said it best, it’s not a kids movie…It’s a family movie that has enough in it for literally everybody sitting down to watch it to enjoy. The kids will enjoy the whole ride, while the older fans will be able to appreciate every little bit that is sprinkled throughout the entire movie that will go over many of the casual viewers and kids heads
I don't know why people don't watch movies because it's targetted to kids, it's transformers. It's like complaining about not having enough stamina while there was literally a skill tree to upgrade it (looking at you IGN)
"I'm done saving you..." The line that made our hearts drop. The line that let us know that D-16 was no longer D-16. The line that told us that D-16 and Orion were no longer brothers, but Cybertronians that were upset about Sentinel's betrayal, but had two different mindsets. One wanted change, while the other wanted revenge on the bot that he thought would look down on him after the many mistakes him and Orion had made, only to find out that he already looked down on him since birth... D was betrayed, and Orion having separate views on what was happening wasn't making it better. D was *forged* into the Megatron that we knew from 1984 to now. And God, does this movie prove how depressing the story behind these two enemies is...
In Transformers One Starscream was once the leader the High Guard before D16 tookover the leadership, becomes Megatron and called themselve Decepticons. What D-16/Megatron did to Sentinel Prime is brutal by tearing up his body into pieces but to be honest he definately got what he deserved anyway since Sentinel Prime is the main antagonist of this movie.
I hope they explore the dynamic between Megatron and Starscream in the next one a bit. They really set things up for some strife to come up between them.
All I'm sayin' is that if they took this movie and used it as the basis for a remake of "More than Meets the Eye" part 1 - 3 as a feature length film, it could be the most awesome Transformers movie yet.
My daughter and I were lucky enough to see the movie a few months back in the UK and my daughter also happened to be the first kid in the world to see it, ( thank you so much Lorenzo) and we both thought for different reasons this movie is going to be the smash hit of 2024. I’m in total agreement with you it’s knocks it out of the park. Emily loved all the action and Sentinal scene she was fine with. To flip Galveston’s line “this is” good “comedy” ;) just the right level of humor gravitas action and oh my Cybertron looks more like how it was original though of from the 86 movie. Can’t say enough good things about transformers one and can’t wait to see it another 20 times to take it all in. Great review sir:)

We loved the movie, even my wife who is not a transformer nerd like me. We did the 3d experience and ill be going back to watch in the vip theater next
I brought my kids (6 and 9) to see this and we were all entranced. It was fantastic. Sadly on a Saturday afternoon of opening weekend,the theatre was almost empty. Personally, I was looking forward to this and would have thought it’d be a packed house. The only con for me (pun intended) was D-16’s dark turn. He seemed genuinely good and I appreciate the trauma of learning the truth, but he went bad a little too quick for me. Overall I can’t wait to watch again.
The trailer did this movie dirty. LOVED it, the drama, conflict. I also love that D-16 was straight out a villian. For a lot of people he would be seen as a hero, he dethrones the one who decived them for so many years. His only downfall is being in mind of absolutes and restarting everything with him having control. I hope they keep it that way. Megatron can be evil but he is also a leader who got his people to protect.

Saj Productions I know Peter Cullen is your childhood hero and all since he’s a legend among the greatest voice actors of all time. But this is like a teenage Optimus or Orion so they got a younger celebrity actor to voice a younger Optimus.
@anthonylogiudice9215 I think he still has a couple more live action movies in him before they go down the James earl jones Vader route and begin working with him to preserve his voice forever with AI work. I know it’s controversial to some but for characters like this it’s honestly essential, and Star Wars has been doing it with Vader for about 3 years now so it can work. We’re not there yet tho, as Cullen has expressed his desire to do voice work has not ceased
As a hardcore G1 fan, I agree. ONE takes the top spot now as the GREATEST most accurate TFs story ever told. The '86 movie can now rest and guard the 2nd place with honor. My 10yr old self can now have peace.
I have never been a HUGE fan of transformers. I definitely enjoyed the movies, but I’ve never been into it like I am with Star Wars, Harry Potter or even Marvel. This movie. Holy fucking shit. THIS movie changed that completely.

ive seen it twice, Every time i heard even a snipit of the TFP music, it was a literal gutpunch. Went to see it earlier (second time) and picked up on D-16's eyes, slowly changing. also wish optimus had a sword instead of an axe but thats just me

My favourite part of this movie is the atmosphere of the city and those trains with transforming train tracks and the creative use of the character transformations used for momentum or battle. Best movie I’ve seen since Across the spiderverse!
They could have easily accidentally made him overly weak and indecisive like Netflix WFC, thank god they gave him such cool action scenes even before becoming a Prime alongside the gentle scenes

Me my dad and my brother watched TF one today. My dad grow up in the 80s and watched G1 and we all watched TF one. it's so good that my dad loves it and he likes some references of G1
I am pushing 51 this year. I was 13 when the 86 movie dropped, and yes, I considered it the greatest transformers movie, discarding the Michael Bay rubbish. But this movie... it was wonderful. I still have a cozy spot in my heart for the 86 movie, however, this new one is my new favorite :)

I'm 44. I was 6 when 'The Transformers: The Movie' came out. I watched the show every day after school and played with the toys. I survived Generation 2, Beast Wars, RID, Armada, Bayverse, and all the rest. None of it captured the essence of The Transformers that I grew up with. I watch the '86 movie still to this day at least once a month. Having said all of that, I watched this out of morbid curiosity and was blown away. I've since watched it 5 more times to take it all in. I verified the Director is my age, and I can tell you youngins for certain, that he was a Transformers fan back in the 80s too. Nothing this good has come from Transformers since the Summer of '86. If you love G1, you need to see this.
Transformers one was perfectly made it had so many references and little details made for the old fans yet still was a amazing story that even someone who’s never heard of transformers could love it was the perfect blend between story and fan service ESPECIALLY megatron being D-16 as 16 was his number on the original toy and I loved how megatron’s fall into evil wasn’t because of his own ego or some random ohhh megatronus T-cog made him evil!!!! You can actually genuinely see him developing even without the big rage moments I’m not even a old transformers fan my only toy is a weird Optimus prime with no articulation and I still LOVED IT I just hope it does better in the box office or else this might just be a one shot
As a card carrying "old head," I'll say this: I love G1 for the nostalgia it brings BUT I also really liked the first few bayverse movies, beast wars and Prime. I'm okay with some changes being made to tighten up the universes to an extent so long as the overall feeling fits ..
Paramount said that this was gonna be a prequel to the live action films, but that makes no sense if sentinel is dead, unless there finally confirming this has been a reboot since bumblebee
This is a brand new continuity. Never listen to paramount listen to the directors. Lorenzo is the head of all this and doesn’t know what he’s doing at all. He tried connecting every animated product and live action including this early on- but it’s a separate continuity
Gonna be new timeline, and I'm excited for the sequel tho I wish they didn't skip through the quintesson war and make it the/part of the plot on the sequel.
They should have Peter Cullen come back for Transformers TWO. Have a battle in the next movie where everyone has injuries and Optimus Prime has his voice box messed with where the others help fix eachother and then Peter starts speaking. That would blow everyone's minds making their earth transition more fantastic.
I totally see why people would want this but personally I think and hope they just keep hemsworth in this continuity permanently. Let this be its own thing, and let this franchise STAY on Cybertron. We have enough earthbound stories
Just came back from the theater digging into all the spoiler reviews now. It was AWESOME! I wanted to watch it again immediately after it ended, that's how you know it's good. I have to agree with some others here though, I still think the 86 movie is better but also like others have said, it had a whole lot of build up. Whereas this movie IS the build up for this continuity. The next two movies, which they hopefully get to do, could be absolutely incredible.
I’ve been a huge Transformer fan since 1984. The 86 movie is and always will be the best, but that’s my heart speaking. Cinematically? Logically? Analytically? This is superior even to 1986. They focused on the most important thing: character development. The respect shown for each individual. The attention to motives that people can identify with. I can’t wait for the rest of the trilogy. (Heard a rumor) Btw, take a close look at the ship Starscream and crew are using as a base. Does it look like the Nemesis? The ship the Deceptions used to get to earth that became their base in G1? Maybe that’s just me.
We need to spread the good news far and wide so they make a second movie. I saw it yesterday and I want to go see it again. Where I am it’s about $20 to see a movie but it’s worth it to go again.

I hope there is sequel. I am "old" G1 fan and I love this! As my husband and I walked out of the theatre, my husband wanted to watch it again. So we are seeing this again this weekend. I think its very telling how good something is by how rewatchable it is.
I loved this movie, it had me gasping at every turn and beyond glad to have frequently binged _The Basics._ Might be number one Transformers movie of all time, but if it isn't, then it's top three. (Up there with G1 and 2007.) Obviously some problems, but very minor ones. Airachnid: You are supposed to one of the most sadistic killers on the roster. Why are you so calm or an incredibly bland flavor of angry about everything? Elita One: Speaking of angry... Can you please calm down!? I get it, your situation sucks, but all you do for half the movie is get pissed. But you did win me over the second half, and it was great. But for the love of god, why are you so small!? You are a giant in litterally any other on screen appearance, you have no buisness being half the size of Optimus! And why a bike? Bikes are very clearly Arcee's thing in the modern era. As one of the main Autobot leaders, you should totally being turning into some kind of transport vehicle. Bee: Honestly, thought the humor would get old real quick. Surprisingly? Doesn't overstay it's welcome. Far more tolerable and badass in the second half. D-16: The runtime _really_ screwed you over here. You needed just BIT more time to develop and truly evolve into Megatron. All the right boxes were checked just in a very hasty way. Soundwave: WHERE ARE YOUR CASSETTES!?!? Starscream: Too confident too early. Edging D-16 makes no sense giving what was going on and who you are. Needed a bit more dialogue. Orion Pax: Not me preferred Orion. Not my preferred Orion, but that's okay. This version of your backstory works really well. The only thing I don't like is the axe design. Way too spectral. It looks more like a hologram than an energy blade.
I freakin loved this film... Did anyone else notice the music for the birth of Optimus seemed to be the same variation of the PRIME theme used for the death of optimus at the end of Predacons Risibg
Loved it. Watched with my son and my kid nostalgia for the series died a long time ago due to Bay. This brought that back. I'm sad it's not selling well....but perhaps in streaming it can earn a following enough to earn a sequel years later.
I’m 48 and have been a fan of Transformers since the beginning in 1984. I saw this with my wife and the neighbor kid on Saturday and we all loved it. I agree with everything you said. The movie is great…but the marketing really let it down. It deserved better. I suspect it will do great on streaming and home video sales. The 1986 movie will always be my favorite…but this one rivals it. And to be honest, I enjoyed every other Transformers movie as well.

The movie itself takes a lot of inspiration from the aligned continuity (transformers prime, Highmoon games like WFC and FOC) and IDW comics. Those are the media where they took the story about cybertronian slavery during the plantet's golden age and lower class oppression. Pretty much the aligned continuity is also the source where they took the idea of Optimus and Megatron being buddies before the war until their paths got separated.

Megatron was a miner vehicle turned into tank for combat. (Idk which continuity may idw)
Always have been the case but it is nice to finally bring it all together for one film lore

I could hear the Thor creep into his voice here and there, but without the accent he puts on as the God of Thunder, it's barely noticeable

I was born in 2001 and this movie was totally for me too. I think this is the most universal Transformers movie ever made.
I too, love the way they used the incredibly rich lore of previous continuities. And not just a superficial way. They built those refrences/inspirations/lore elements into the story.
For ex, Megtaron's low caste miner origin is taken from thr IDW comics. Starscream's backstory was inspired by his Aligned continuity one. The cogless bots unable to transform during the rule of the Quintessons come from the G1 series.
It's just so cool.

@R1ckyWithA1 As someone who doesn't have much reverence for the 86 movie aside from the music and some elements that have become mainstays in TF lore, it's definitely going to be much more iconic but I wouldn't say it's terrible. One is better as a story, but the 86 movie is a decent popcorn flick. I just kinda have to be in a mood to watch it whereas I don't for something else held in high regard like the original TMNT movie which I can watch whenever

I saw Sentinel and he is like a mix of DOM, WFC and Animated including the personalities. I think this might be a definitive version.
I feel a lot more Animated vibes from him than the others, surprisingly. He just had that absolute dickhead energy.

Zeta Prime died a hero in wfc. His design is definitely similar to Zeta, which was also a character within the movie.
Yeah. While people are talking about the parallels between One’s Sentinel and DOTM’s, I see them more with Animated’s, who’s a massive prick for little reason, and WFC’s, who while noble was pretty sadistic when you were playing as the Cons.
Took the family to go see it last night. It was surprisingly good. You could tell the writers were fans of the franchise as they blended about 5 different storylines from various permutations of Transformers lore together. The only sad part was the theater was shockingly empty. Maybe 10 people in attendance. If the box office doesn't pick up, this might be a one and done.
Movies are doing badly in general. It doesn't help that most of the other Transformers movies were trash. Streaming is what will make or break this.

I went opening night, the very first showing and me and my roommate were the only two in the theatre :( I went again the next week and there was maybe 20 people besides us. Granted I do live in the middle of nowhere and a tiny town...so I am not the normal experience.
It was just me and my brother when I watched it bruh
My minor criticism is that it easily could have had another half hour if not hour, it's so fast in it's pacing it needed the relatively simple storyline so that audiences wouldn't get lost

I think that brutal death was the final nail for the creation of megatron at that moment d16 was dead and megatron killed him the minute he ripped sentinel in half

Also, my only gripe with this movie is that it should have been about 2 and a half hours long, but I still love it.
couldn’t agree more man, i go in with very low expectation.. came out speechless by how amazing it is.. i went to see it again the next day and i watch it 3 times now.
i really hope people will set aside all that early comment about oh the movie didn’t look good etc and give this movie a chance to see it while in theaters, cause i think transformers movie we’re meant to be experience in the biggest screen possible and this one was the one to be watch in theaters

Chris’ gradual transition in his voice from Orion To Optimus throughout the course of this film was simply genius. Same can be said for Megatron bravo to the voice acting.
This is what I wanted the Michael Bay movie to be when it came out. In my mind as a kid Transformers was a dark story and not the comical mess that the live action movie I had waited 25 years for turned out to be . Well done ..... Awesome 😎

The marketing was definitely something to be desired. Like, the final trailer they put out on the 17th showed way too much and made me glad I managed to go to an early screening on the 14th lol
They wanted to market it to the younger fans, and then reward the loyalty of the older ones later.
Though if you ask me it was obvious there was more to the movie than the trailers let on, only the absolute petty fans would refuse to give it a shot

I would not call this a kids movie. It's typical because it is animated. No, it is a family movie. I love the 86 movie, but more for nostalgia and how it is part of the things that shaped my geekdom. But this One is objectively much better movie in all aspects. I mean Optimus Prime IS the hero. As an OG fan. The moment before he became a prime, got me nervous haha. Fantastic movie.
Couldn’t agree more. You said it best, it’s not a kids movie…It’s a family movie that has enough in it for literally everybody sitting down to watch it to enjoy. The kids will enjoy the whole ride, while the older fans will be able to appreciate every little bit that is sprinkled throughout the entire movie that will go over many of the casual viewers and kids heads

Sentinel prime is Donald Trump, and the Quintessons are the Russians.
"I'm done saving you..." The line that made our hearts drop. The line that let us know that D-16 was no longer D-16. The line that told us that D-16 and Orion were no longer brothers, but Cybertronians that were upset about Sentinel's betrayal, but had two different mindsets. One wanted change, while the other wanted revenge on the bot that he thought would look down on him after the many mistakes him and Orion had made, only to find out that he already looked down on him since birth... D was betrayed, and Orion having separate views on what was happening wasn't making it better. D was *forged* into the Megatron that we knew from 1984 to now. And God, does this movie prove how depressing the story behind these two enemies is...
He stopped as soon as he could transform. He was super aggressive from that point onwards.
In Transformers One Starscream was once the leader the High Guard before D16 tookover the leadership, becomes Megatron and called themselve Decepticons. What D-16/Megatron did to Sentinel Prime is brutal by tearing up his body into pieces but to be honest he definately got what he deserved anyway since Sentinel Prime is the main antagonist of this movie.
And this folks, was a lesson on how to include as many major spoilers as possible in one comment ;)

All I'm sayin' is that if they took this movie and used it as the basis for a remake of "More than Meets the Eye" part 1 - 3 as a feature length film, it could be the most awesome Transformers movie yet.

My daughter and I were lucky enough to see the movie a few months back in the UK and my daughter also happened to be the first kid in the world to see it, ( thank you so much Lorenzo) and we both thought for different reasons this movie is going to be the smash hit of 2024. I’m in total agreement with you it’s knocks it out of the park. Emily loved all the action and Sentinal scene she was fine with. To flip Galveston’s line “this is” good “comedy” ;) just the right level of humor gravitas action and oh my Cybertron looks more like how it was original though of from the 86 movie. Can’t say enough good things about transformers one and can’t wait to see it another 20 times to take it all in. Great review sir:)

Sentinel Prime never got the better against Megatron in any media. Frankly, he deserves what he got
I brought my kids (6 and 9) to see this and we were all entranced. It was fantastic. Sadly on a Saturday afternoon of opening weekend,the theatre was almost empty. Personally, I was looking forward to this and would have thought it’d be a packed house. The only con for me (pun intended) was D-16’s dark turn. He seemed genuinely good and I appreciate the trauma of learning the truth, but he went bad a little too quick for me. Overall I can’t wait to watch again.
The trailer did this movie dirty. LOVED it, the drama, conflict. I also love that D-16 was straight out a villian. For a lot of people he would be seen as a hero, he dethrones the one who decived them for so many years. His only downfall is being in mind of absolutes and restarting everything with him having control. I hope they keep it that way. Megatron can be evil but he is also a leader who got his people to protect.

Saj Productions I know Peter Cullen is your childhood hero and all since he’s a legend among the greatest voice actors of all time. But this is like a teenage Optimus or Orion so they got a younger celebrity actor to voice a younger Optimus.

Cullen is in his 80's and his voice is not as strong as it once was. Plus, he's expensive.
@anthonylogiudice9215 I think he still has a couple more live action movies in him before they go down the James earl jones Vader route and begin working with him to preserve his voice forever with AI work. I know it’s controversial to some but for characters like this it’s honestly essential, and Star Wars has been doing it with Vader for about 3 years now so it can work. We’re not there yet tho, as Cullen has expressed his desire to do voice work has not ceased

As a hardcore G1 fan, I agree. ONE takes the top spot now as the GREATEST most accurate TFs story ever told. The '86 movie can now rest and guard the 2nd place with honor. My 10yr old self can now have peace.

I have never been a HUGE fan of transformers. I definitely enjoyed the movies, but I’ve never been into it like I am with Star Wars, Harry Potter or even Marvel. This movie. Holy fucking shit. THIS movie changed that completely.

Every time i heard even a snipit of the TFP music, it was a literal gutpunch.
Went to see it earlier (second time) and picked up on D-16's eyes, slowly changing.
also wish optimus had a sword instead of an axe but thats just me

My favourite part of this movie is the atmosphere of the city and those trains with transforming train tracks and the creative use of the character transformations used for momentum or battle. Best movie I’ve seen since Across the spiderverse!

I am pushing 51 this year. I was 13 when the 86 movie dropped, and yes, I considered it the greatest transformers movie, discarding the Michael Bay rubbish. But this movie... it was wonderful. I still have a cozy spot in my heart for the 86 movie, however, this new one is my new favorite :)

I'm 44. I was 6 when 'The Transformers: The Movie' came out. I watched the show every day after school and played with the toys. I survived Generation 2, Beast Wars, RID, Armada, Bayverse, and all the rest. None of it captured the essence of The Transformers that I grew up with. I watch the '86 movie still to this day at least once a month. Having said all of that, I watched this out of morbid curiosity and was blown away. I've since watched it 5 more times to take it all in. I verified the Director is my age, and I can tell you youngins for certain, that he was a Transformers fan back in the 80s too. Nothing this good has come from Transformers since the Summer of '86. If you love G1, you need to see this.

Transformers one was perfectly made it had so many references and little details made for the old fans yet still was a amazing story that even someone who’s never heard of transformers could love it was the perfect blend between story and fan service ESPECIALLY megatron being D-16 as 16 was his number on the original toy and I loved how megatron’s fall into evil wasn’t because of his own ego or some random ohhh megatronus T-cog made him evil!!!! You can actually genuinely see him developing even without the big rage moments I’m not even a old transformers fan my only toy is a weird Optimus prime with no articulation and I still LOVED IT I just hope it does better in the box office or else this might just be a one shot

As a card carrying "old head," I'll say this: I love G1 for the nostalgia it brings BUT I also really liked the first few bayverse movies, beast wars and Prime. I'm okay with some changes being made to tighten up the universes to an extent so long as the overall feeling fits ..

Paramount said that this was gonna be a prequel to the live action films, but that makes no sense if sentinel is dead, unless there finally confirming this has been a reboot since bumblebee
This is a brand new continuity. Never listen to paramount listen to the directors. Lorenzo is the head of all this and doesn’t know what he’s doing at all. He tried connecting every animated product and live action including this early on- but it’s a separate continuity

They should have Peter Cullen come back for Transformers TWO. Have a battle in the next movie where everyone has injuries and Optimus Prime has his voice box messed with where the others help fix eachother and then Peter starts speaking. That would blow everyone's minds making their earth transition more fantastic.
I totally see why people would want this but personally I think and hope they just keep hemsworth in this continuity permanently. Let this be its own thing, and let this franchise STAY on Cybertron. We have enough earthbound stories

Just came back from the theater digging into all the spoiler reviews now. It was AWESOME! I wanted to watch it again immediately after it ended, that's how you know it's good.
I have to agree with some others here though, I still think the 86 movie is better but also like others have said, it had a whole lot of build up. Whereas this movie IS the build up for this continuity. The next two movies, which they hopefully get to do, could be absolutely incredible.
I’ve been a huge Transformer fan since 1984. The 86 movie is and always will be the best, but that’s my heart speaking. Cinematically? Logically? Analytically? This is superior even to 1986. They focused on the most important thing: character development. The respect shown for each individual. The attention to motives that people can identify with. I can’t wait for the rest of the trilogy. (Heard a rumor)
Btw, take a close look at the ship Starscream and crew are using as a base. Does it look like the Nemesis? The ship the Deceptions used to get to earth that became their base in G1? Maybe that’s just me.

I loved this movie, it had me gasping at every turn and beyond glad to have frequently binged _The Basics._ Might be number one Transformers movie of all time, but if it isn't, then it's top three. (Up there with G1 and 2007.) Obviously some problems, but very minor ones.
Airachnid: You are supposed to one of the most sadistic killers on the roster. Why are you so calm or an incredibly bland flavor of angry about everything?
Elita One: Speaking of angry... Can you please calm down!? I get it, your situation sucks, but all you do for half the movie is get pissed. But you did win me over the second half, and it was great. But for the love of god, why are you so small!? You are a giant in litterally any other on screen appearance, you have no buisness being half the size of Optimus! And why a bike? Bikes are very clearly Arcee's thing in the modern era. As one of the main Autobot leaders, you should totally being turning into some kind of transport vehicle.
Bee: Honestly, thought the humor would get old real quick. Surprisingly? Doesn't overstay it's welcome. Far more tolerable and badass in the second half.
D-16: The runtime _really_ screwed you over here. You needed just BIT more time to develop and truly evolve into Megatron. All the right boxes were checked just in a very hasty way.

Orion Pax: Not me preferred Orion. Not my preferred Orion, but that's okay. This version of your backstory works really well. The only thing I don't like is the axe design. Way too spectral. It looks more like a hologram than an energy blade.

Loved it. Watched with my son and my kid nostalgia for the series died a long time ago due to Bay. This brought that back. I'm sad it's not selling well....but perhaps in streaming it can earn a following enough to earn a sequel years later.
Shockwave was unironically so funny, he may not have had the most screen time but he was such an enjoyable character in all his scenes
My dad grew up with the original T.V. Show, and I can tell he's gonna LOVE IT.

I’m 48 and have been a fan of Transformers since the beginning in 1984. I saw this with my wife and the neighbor kid on Saturday and we all loved it. I agree with everything you said. The movie is great…but the marketing really let it down. It deserved better. I suspect it will do great on streaming and home video sales. The 1986 movie will always be my favorite…but this one rivals it. And to be honest, I enjoyed every other Transformers movie as well.
Sad cuz me and my son and family thought this movie was crap..and I'm 48 also .what a let down and I'm sure others were disappointed as to this woke crap they trying to push
@@jessiemartinez3056 Honest question, what did you think was woke about it? There was some kinda wishy washy stuff in there for sure, but I thought the DEI aspects were pretty tame compared to a lot of modern stuff.

The movie itself takes a lot of inspiration from the aligned continuity (transformers prime, Highmoon games like WFC and FOC) and IDW comics. Those are the media where they took the story about cybertronian slavery during the plantet's golden age and lower class oppression.
Pretty much the aligned continuity is also the source where they took the idea of Optimus and Megatron being buddies before the war until their paths got separated.
