Congratulations on your Lewitt 1040! I convinced my friend who works daily in a major studio as a sound engineer to invest in this 1040. After 3 weeks, my friend calls me and says that the microphone, regardless of its settings, to many customers sounds like they gut a cold in playback. Unfortunately, I have to agree that there is a "nasal" character in this microphone regardless of the settings. Do others who own the 1040 have the same experience??
im gonna be honest.. i don't hear $2,600 in difference.. it might sound a tiny, tiny bit brighter but i don't see anything that would allow anyone but the most skilled listener to be able to tell which mic you are using in a mix.
This was a good purchase for your needs my friend. Harry goes for a vintage vocal sound pretty much all the time so the sm7b might match that vibe a little bit better than the clean setting you used in this vid (I prob would've picked a darker tube on the Lewitt for one of his songs) - BUT my point is the sm7b comes with a lot of mixing issues and is committed to that soft low broadcasting sound. That's not ideal for the wide range of notes and genres you wanna sing. The Lewitt is so flexible - it can be bright, detailed, and modern OR warmer and more vintage sounding and anything in between. Plus, you can create any vibe you want in mixing. With the Lewitt, you're able to get a fantastic source signal that's ready to be mixed and shaped however you want. Without that, things are so much harder. That's why I think this purchase was strategic and smart for you, don't listen to the nay sayers. I have both Lewitt and an sm7b.
Thanks for the response! I do love the Lewitt I think it sounds amazing. I honestly haven’t experimented much with the tube settings on it so perhaps I should more for certain genres.
Lewit sounds better when you speak. Sm7b is still better in all singing situations on your voice, it adds the low end. Both mics are phenomenal. If money would not be an issue, I would use both…, but having a pair of sm7B-s, I consider this setup enough for my needs.

After a few months...it is much better than a Shure SM7B
Wonderful falsetto..sounds so natural to me. :)
Thank you!

Beautiful vocal 😍
Thank you!
Lewitts are incredible!
The 1040 sounds great on your voice. It will definitely be worth your 3k.
Thanks so much! I will definitely be posting more with it and experimenting!
I think that sure sounds better for the price…
Needs over wants my friend.
