Mike's vids are what convinced me to take the leap into getting a Lewitt LCT 440 Pure in concert with a dbx-286s. I use it for live streaming and get lots of compliments both for the sound and the appearance on camera. These mics are extremely well thought out and feel super solid, and your magnetic pop filter works great without getting in the way. Can't wait to get a higher end model someday. :)

@@thebrigandier I also own a 440 Pure, for Podcast and Narration, thanks to Mike's reviews. I'm from Austria and I think it's brilliant that a company here is able to build such good quality. Honestly a testament to AKG's heritage - but much more modern and innovative. The 440 is my goto - but honstly, the 1040 is now my microphone of choice, i don't want a Neumann U87 anymore - i want the 1040 ... sigh

  • @mogwix

I really admire that Lewitt is making unique microphones without necessarily trying to fit a niche or emulate a certain sound. An engineer friend of mine turned me onto them a few years back when I did a session recording music at another studio. I was so used to seeing the same few microphones everywhere ... you NEED an SM57 and 121 to record guitar amps, you NEED a U47 for vocals, you NEED a U87 for VO, you NEED D112s and 421s for drums, you NEED 414's for piano ... I've never really subscribed to that mindset (I've done most of my work in project studios) and it was nice to see some different tools put to use in the real world.
Thanks for the demo!! While this mic is outside of my price bracket, I would love to add a proper tube mic to my locker eventually, I'll keep this on my list if I ever make that jump.

Eventually he inspired me to buy a linear PCM recorder. I still use it today. I also learned how important sound treatment is. Glad to see they put the pop filter farther away from the microphone. The one they have on most are too close to be the most effective _(they themselves proved this in one of their videos),_ which is too bad, cause it's incredibly handy to have it mount like it does and just be out of the way. I wonder if they will update the pop filters for their other microphones.

Thanks for another engaging and informative review!
Regarding your comments that the overall tube effect could be less subtle; back in the day the conventional wisdom about tube mics was that for best results you needed to let them warm up for at least an hour before using them. Some older Abbey Road engineers say that in the 50s and 60s they never even unplugged their u47's, because they used them so routinely and always wanted them at the ready.
I don't know if you did let the mic warm up or how long the video took to produce, but It could be interesting to note if there was any audible difference if the mic was switched on for an hour or so before use.
Thanks again for your videos and all the best!

Thanks for this extensive review! The LCT 1040 is a marvel of technology. It's amazing what they do in Austria! I agree, though, that the effects are too subtle to warrant the hefty price tag. In a sense it is a real Lewitt mic. Well built, but always a tad clinical in its sound. BTW my ultimate microphone is the Gefell M930 Ts. I'm a voice talent like you, and I only need a quiet mic that flatters my voice. The Gefell fits the bill perfectly.

Well done and thoughtful video MIke! I can't imagine I will ever have the budget for something like this - but it is great when a company pushes the limits and makes things happen beyond what has been seen before. Again as somebody who will never probably own one of these, a proprietary cable is a disappointment in theory. I don't know jack about cables and why it would need to be proprietary (so if it has to be then I can understand that) - but that is a pretty huge potential point of failure with catastrophic consequences on a product that is otherwise very well focused on the needs of the consumer/user. But speaking of thoughtful - your review and information is the pinnacle of thoughtful!

In my ears the FET mode of the mic was far too harsh with your sibilance, but the warm and dark modes just put enough of a tweak on that to make it enjoyable. Unfortunately my ears are far too crude to be able to appreciate and describe any specific qualities of the sound other than that. :(

    • @ErikWoodsCinSoundRadio
      @ErikWoodsCinSoundRadio 2 года назад

I absolutely agree with the sibilance comment. The moment he started taking into the mic I was immediately turned off. There was something tinny & metalic about the higher end of this mic. I've notice a similar issue the AKG-C414, which I used for a few months but eventually went back to my old mic.

@@RondellKB 441 Flex I'm asking about Brother. Plus I've Seen that Any Omitted by other reviewers' videos Problems/Issues with a mic, Mike DOES Mention them with Even the Company Specifications Graphs Documentation.
Like for Example when researching listing out options on XLR &USB combo mics Low to Mid Budget, instead of Shure MV7, Samson Q9U not having headphone monitoring work on XLR mode or older videos for the odd mics out of the commission pushed FiFine etc, M-Audio UBER multi polar patterns mic good natural voice quality and pickup even further from speaker, but stand issue. This is the Reason I Give Credit where Due to Mike&👍🏼Sub.
I've searched if He reviewed sE Electronics Neom in addition to 441 Flex, didn't show in the results or I wouldn't have enquired most of those high sub count dudes are hyping mics that are being returned and poor reviews on Online Shopping platforms, so I go with what I hear and see and more out of the Box quality or functional because I don't have a Voice Actor or Podcast Radio Voice more Robotic so I'm taking my time because I'm Needing something for global public disclosure and Teaching Laws Rights etc so Yeah Pretty Serious on Quality over anything else! No High Priced or 101 interfaces to PERFORM ONE freakin Purpose is What I'm Struggling and Battling for so to speak! No link webcam and obsbot decides oh so late they're going to have a Tiny 4k 2 but doesn't look 3 axis from the short Advert or what its mic audio quality is like!
At This Point, I'm getting oh so tempted to just Turn on the Phone Camera Go into Dual View Mode Video test between phone mic quality sample versus Attach the doggone Comica Mic and Record Offline itself see which is better and let the videos audios whatever flow if there's any actual damn independent platform that's not in bed with the Alphabet Companies listed for Death Penalty in my Cases! Because I think by now Anyone Everyone in Whistle Blowing Reporting Global Crimes Scams Field Are Well Aware of Audio Video Network Compression Meddling That Will OBVIOUSLY be Done by you know who YT, when they're on my cases list and made their CEOs Abscond in a Hurry for Illegal Removal Ghosting of Evidence Videos Audios of Courts Police Government Owned State National Human Rights Commission etc! For me, it would probably be one of three choices because of my financial budget, the Shure SM57; the Electro-Voice RE320; or the Audio-Technica AT-2020. One thing these all have in common is that they are built like tanks.

First off let me Begin by saying you’re a genius when it comes to microphones dude
Second off I royally pisses me off that you’re NOT compensated
    Now let’s be real
You work hard on your videos right? You put a lot of time and effort into them? Of course you do and I understand that because I make videos myself so I know the time and work it takes to create one, on top of that you’re educating people on so many things. So all the work you put, the time and energy for THIS company as well as others and you mean to tell me they can’t let you keep the mic? Regardless of the cost the make plenty of them and I highly doubt they would be hard pressed to let you keep it, I mean I just don't see them goin bankrupt over letting you keep that microphone or other they may hav Sent you. I think it's disgusting how greedy these companies can be sometimes
Now maybe I’m being a little to passionate but that’s just me, I hate that they send you a mic to “use” then you gotta send it back? For them to do what with it? Repackage it? Give to a friend? I mean come on man. I apologize but it does get under my skin seeing you are probably one of, if not the BEST RUclips microphone reviewer yet, you break down every little detail, on every video and explain in Greta detail on top of that and they can’t let you keep a microphone 🤦🏻
Really not kool of them, especially seeing how much you like and enjoyed it, they could’ve at least gave you a major discount or something and maybe they did idk I could be wrong but in my opinion, you should get it for free dude
    Period
You make great videos and I respect you 🫡

If only it didn't have that Gaming PC asthetic. Truly a hideous microphone that sounds great.
I'd be slightly concerned with reliability with so many moving parts.
I'll stick with my Gefell M930 ts for now :))

For VO? U87AI gets my vote :) but I'm running a TLM-103 at the moment, and my buddies that dub anime from home haven't upgraded from that... so maybe it's an opinion/use-case/personal taste conversation at that point?
