Never realized how cool Chris was. He seems like a genuinely nice guy who got lucky in one of the best bands out there! It seems like all of the Foo’s are good people!
Yep. I have noticed that most of the people who work with or for the Foos are good people also. I think Dave looks for that as much as talent and how everyone will get along with each other.
Because 1) He's a cool dude, and by all the accounts of people who knows him, just a great all around human being. 2) Chris is someone who deserves to have two Gibsons for free. 3:15 Someone has never been to Mr Music in Allston MA. I bought my first bass from Steve there in 1989, when I was 15 and he was awesome. He still works there and is still a fantastic guy.
I loved Voltage and miss it. I always loved to see all the old Gretsch hollowbodies and Gibson hollows from the 50s and 60s. The owner Lloyd is quite a character. Went in about 1999 and he Jon Biron (producer Fiona Apple, etc ...) and him were having some philosophical discussion about something which I forget what it was about. Ah I believe they were talking about conspiracy theories also. Loved Guitar Row on Sunset and off Sunset on Gardner. Too bad it's all but gone. Shiflett mentioned he went to another guitar shop around the corner. He may have been talking about Volpe Guitars which is gone. I bought a guitar there once in 1999. Those were the days.

Oh man I guarantee you there is someone somewhere who is adamant the neck pickup will affect the bridge pickup due to the wiring or magnets etc. 100%. they claim they can hear the difference in a fraction of a percentage when it's played thru a 4x12 cab at full volume 😀
@@DavidOakesMusic Well, they can say anything they want, we know the truth. At those volumes the only freq that matters is the midrange and the JB/59 has the perfect midrange to cut thru any mix on stage. Alex Skolnick has this set in his signature Heritage Les Paul and he said in an interview that he has to compete with another huge guitar rig and a giant bass rig on stage and the only way to be heard is a heavy ass Les Paul with the JB. I will defer to Alex when he likes a piece of gear. And the man himself it was named after still uses them. If Jeff Beck says something, better listen to him

Dave playing explorers is why my girlfriend, now wife, bought me a black Epiphone Explorer w/ white pickguard in 2002 for Christmas. Now I've have it in drop C tuning with active 60 & 81 EMG pickups & a FF logo I made out of some silicone plaster thing in white.
He's got a podcast, Shredding with Shifty that's really good. His rig rundown videos on Premier Guitar are really good too. Especially the second one! His disclaimer at the beginning is comedy genius!
I know that his Explorer is an Explorer...but when Shiflett first picked it up,..the angle of the camera shot made the guitar look more slender and it looked like one of the original Futuras. Funny enough, I just saw something that said that Gibson are going to do a run of Futuras in 2025. It should be cool. When some people hear the name Futura, they might think of the Norlin era Futura that came out with the funky Corvus line. Those were interesting guitars. I think that the Norlin-era Futura prototype was a headless guitar. However, it never came out..and that is probably a good thing because the Corvus/futura line were not the most please guitars to the eye. I wonder if the new, 2025 Futuras will have the split-V headstock. Should be interesting one. I'd b'e interested in possibly buying one...but I highly doubt they will issue a lefthanded version...l
Every guitarist talks about a guitar while holding it and looking at details of it like they are checking it out for the first time, even if they know every square inch of the guitar
