Just finished up checking everything again after my weeping replacement gasket. I discovered the thickness of the valve cover plus gasket is right around 17mm. Put the bolts alone in the holes and they leave about 17mm protruding. I suspect my bolts might have "bottomed out" in the holes before pulling the cover down adequately. So I've fitted a washer under each bolt head now, and retorqued to 53 inch lb as a try. Hopefully, all good. Love your video's - keep up the great work, it sure helps amateurs like me!
Nice video very helpful cuz I noticed my gasket was bad and decided to take on the job after watching this video just waiting on parts then I will be tackling this job on my kia
Great video, well edited to show required steps. Just finished changing my gasket, thanks to your video tips, it was an easy job which went exactly as shown. Old gasket was totally shot, and leaking a lot of oil into one spark plug recess. Gasket part number is 0K247-10235B. Top tip: Also check rubber air hoses for blockages. One of mine was blocked with crud.
Quick recap got my valve cover gasket fixed and it went in easy as pie did want the video said and its been going strong since. Good video's keep up the good work also I subscribed.
Excellent video. Made changing my daughter 06 rio5 go in nice and easy. Dealer wanted over 200 bucks to replace it. Cost me 25 bucks and less then of an our of my time. Thanks
Just did this on my 2003 Kia Spectra and it seems fine so far. Never have done anything like that on a car before but this video made it pretty easy to follow.
a great helpful video. you did not talk about cleaning the u/neath of valve cover and top of cylinder head. my 2003 had a lot of sludge build up. my spectra burns a lot oil. are there oil return holes in the cylinder head that need to cleaned? (and where are they located?). i am wondering that if those holes get covered with sludge or plugged, could that cause oil burning (1 quart every 100 miles) ?. my car never smokes out the tail pipe, and PCV valve and 2 vacuum lines are clear. compression of cylinders range from 155-165 on 3 cylinders and 1 cylinder @ 185. thank you for any response.
Back again. 4 months after replacing gasket I find it's weeping oil right around the front. I see the valve cover has metal studs(??) at each bolt hole which limit how far the cover can be torqued down. The gasket was totally wet under all of it. I'm wondering if 9ft lb is too much? Mr Google suggests maybe 3-4 ft lb, so I might try that tomorrow. I'll report back after a few days. Also, the 2 year old Hyundai/Kia parts warehouse in Sydney Australia got destroyed by hail storm the other day. Roof collapsed under the weight of 2.5 feet of hail over all of it. YIKES!
RisingTech the knock sensor is behind the intake msnifold. Its a 12mm socket. U can access it from under the car easier if u remove the oil filter. U may have done this already but somebody can read it later for help. I'm changing it now and didn't put WD40 on nut and almost stripped it.
5 foot pound trust me i no i looked at the book and thought it was in foot pound and it said 44-78 in-lbs lets just say i was new to a torque specs at the time and tried to tighten them to 44 foot pound then i had a hell of a time getting the broken bolt out

Do you need to remove engine oil first?
@@omerjamalelden2012 this is old but no

Thank you so much for posting this video. Question is a head cover gasket and a valve cover the same thing.
Ty for the video
made the job easy.
this vídeo, very very good.
Great video! I may need to do this but need to confirm. I hope it's not the head gasket. Thanks!
This is very helpful for me and my 2001 Kia optimal lx 4cylinder. It's pretty much the same thing.
Back again. No more weeping oil.
Haynes repair manual quotes 66-88 in lb (5.5 - 7.3 ft lb) torque for the valve cover bolts. Hope this helps others.

can u give me some information about how to remove air conditioner filter?
Getting oil in air box in my 09 Spectra.
a question if the board does not look good what consequences can it do
Great video. Next time mention the importance of remembering which spark plug wire goes where. Get that order confused and your day is screwed. 👌🏾
What kind of silicone
Is the valve cover gasket the same thing as the head gasket in this car? I'm not trolling, I just don't know that much about newer cars.
+jackslater230011 No, replacing the head gasket is tons more work. Cheers
pretty simple
Where is the knock sensor in this car. Needs to get replaced and Ive been meaning to do myself but I cant locate it.

How d if you get the gasket off so easily?

Opinionated Bastard I know the pain man. I broke all 4 bolts for the ignition coils because I thought that break was a click 😂 You live you learn tho!
and a shop here charged 400 for a valve covee gasket..for a simple job
Talk about a rip off, I paid under $100 for this job at a local shop. Now I had to make calls to find the cheapest one.
Same motor
Is this ratchets and wrenches guy?
Richard Cowtails Yes the one and olny :)
Haha nice. Lol
