I would like to say thank you to you and everyone on RUclips who has made videos to help to educate those of us who have never done this and at least need to know everything involved in the process of engine repair.
+Anthony Smith Glad you liked the video, even if no one does this themselves its always good to see how its done and whats involved. Thanks for your comment. cheers
Ratchets And Wrenches my car sounds like grinding noises when I try to start it, and It sounds like no compression in the engine what you think? I look the timing belt it looks very worn-out cracks
Just did a 2002 Kia Spectra 1.8L. With the adjuster pulley spring in place, I inserted a 5mm hex head in the pulley and turned counter clockwise until the hex hole was at the 9 o'clock position, then tightened the pulley bolt to hold in place. This gave enough clearance to install the new belt. By loosening the adjuster bolt, and turning the crankshaft around twice, the adjuster spring took up the belt slack, then the adjuster bolt was tighted to 35 ft lbs. Also, the oil dipstick tube needed to be removed to make clearance for the water pump bolts. Thanks again for sharing.
Excellent video, for cracking off the cover , I did step by step and successful change the belt and put it all back in timing. 👍. Thanks Man 👌. Take care.
What exactly is that tool you are using in this video? It looks like some kind of long ratchet with a low profile socket or something. I can't find anything like it online.
Thanks for the video. Helped me out a lot. I have one issue though. My belt shifted towards the engine. It's on the edge of the sprockets really close to the engine. What could be the cause of this?
This is the motor that is in my 2000 Kia Sephia, however the water pump doesn't look like that and doesn't require removal from inside the timing cover. I had a situation where the harmonic balancer wouldn't pull off. So I pulled it off with one of those screw type pullers. Well, I found out the threading was on the timing crank gear... So umm yeah, I ended up pulling both by accident. The incident ended up cracking the timing belt and now I'm working on replacing it.
Thanks for the video. I have the same motor and I am trying to figure out how to get out the alternator. It is boxed in on the top and bottom by the intake manifold and AC lines. Autozone said to remove the intake manifold. My friend said take out the CV joint. Any ideas?
i have kia shuma , but it's just missing top cover engine , can you make some video, where position this bracket for top cover engine, because kia shuma and kia sephia dont have this top cover engine plastic , thanks anyway
Does this method work for removing belts from a 2004 Kia Spectra? I'm having trouble removing these bolts from the power steering pump. I need to change the belts because I've already shredded one and my car isn't running. It's been a month and I really need to get it running again. Thank you in advance.
That was a good tut, but since you were at all those major parts why didn't you just replace the: Water Pump, "all" the belts including the Timing belt since you are doing it yourself. If the timing belt did not break me my self I would have waited until I could have bought all the parts that needed replacing while I had everything off and just did at once and that's a done deal, but it's not my "Project" sorry just a thought.....
@@jdm240z3 it IS A DAMN mazda engine and anyone who knows anything on kia engines knows that from 98-04 they used quite a few mazda copies under licence before hyundai made them use hyundai engines. Hyundai/Kia have a lot of mitsubishi engines and around 07 all 3 of them got together with chrysler as well and designed an engine together that it seems chrysler bought the final design rights to most likely with bailout money. Some hyundais are sold in south America as dodges....
Can anybody verify the piston position when the crankshaft timing mark is lined up? Is cylinder #1 at TDC? I want to verify if the belt has skipped, without exposing the crankshaft pulley. 2006 Kia Spectra.
As a 10 year auto tech, these videos are awesome to skim through to get the whole picture of what to expect before you even crack the cover open.

I'm not surprised these are popular, as they have a rare quality of detailed engine work by a pro, with great editing and excellent commentary.

Lawrence Garza Looks like that is covered in detail at the beginning of the video.
I just need to know how to take the two belts off to replace them.... first video i found that shows my car seems to be rare or obscure
same here, hate the two belt design without the use of a auto-tensioner pulley
hi i have a problem with my kia shuma 11 2004 model the problem is while on motion the car will jecking what will I do.
Is this a non interference engine?
I have the 2007 CVVT Spectra (Cerato).
How to put back on the timing belt and tie in the police and the springs on a Kia Sephia spectra 2001
Hi I need help I have 2005 kia rio 1.6 L the timing belt jump n bend some of the valve what shall I do please?
Install a new motor .!
The title of the video and the description should have the kia model years that this video covers.
My timing jumped is my motor screwed?
For the tension bolt, you could have taken a hammer and tap the end of the bolt to loosen it.
I need a video on how to replace the starter on a 2003 Spectra, I have a problem with the 3rd bolt under the intake.
i have kia rio 2003 im speed 65 mph timing belt brocken how i know my engines is no brockrn ?

👍
The 1.8 is non-interference
ARE YOU SERIOUS??? Quite a number of these early kia engines are MAZDA COPIES and NON INTERFERENCE engines. And SPECIFICALLY the smaller ones.
Okay...
I think I got it
That's a security feature. Who wants to steal that POS?!?!
accidental security measure
OKAY?OKAY!
did they steal... I mean borrow.. this design from ford/mazda 1.8/2.0 dohc
Nilk Narf yes. It is a Mazda motor
@@themonolithian that is not a Mazda motor dumbass 😂😂😂😂

Made under licence. There's a few non interference mazda engines in the early kias.
ok so everybody knows Most Korean engines are interference so if the timing belt breaks piston will hit a valve
Actually MOST of the early kia engines are MAZDA COPIES and NON INTERFERENCE engines. I'm talking 98-04. Before they used hyundai engines.
Thats too much access for belt
+Ahmed Turkestani yes, pretty nice.
kia shuma, kia sephia, kia spectra = same car
07 is cerato not sephia
Video is good but your OK OK OK OK OK is so anoying...
