Your video quality was great, in that you could actually see what you were doing. Your detail of explaining how and why you're doing each step was awesome. I recently had some overheating issues on my 03 elantra. I leaned toward thermostat, since water wasn't circulating and waterpump had recently been replaced. After replacing thermostat, it ran normal temp but thermostat leaked. Took out and examined new gasket which was flawed. Put in again with new gasket and ran fine with no leaks.
Very well explained in detail I'm currently doing my head gasket on my hyundai matrix its similar to the video and I just removed the head so far by watching this video keep it up good stuff
You've got a nice relaxed style of explanation, making it really easy to watch and learn. In this case, I'll guess that this could be something more serious than a simple head gasket. Isn't it a little suspicious that you have no compression anywhere? If it is bent valves or a cracked block, the motor would need to come out anyway so you are not losing a lot of time, since you would have to do most of these steps anyway....
I like this video because this guy talks less and works more. In other video people keep talking and kind of miss the point of how to get the job done.
Ratchets and Wrenches thanks for uploading such well made videos. I had only installed a radiator before deciding to tackle a head gasket job for my 99 tiburon fx 2.0 and your videos helped me tremendously. Good work and keep it up!
Your videos are great their play by play and that's good but I had a question if you have time to reply I put an 06 motor in a 03 body but the VVT no place for the hookup if I put the old head back on the new motor will it pump oil up to the can
Raymond Ilano 0 seconds ago Thank you so much for this series. I took mine to machine shop and they removed the half moon camshaft inserts. Which adhesive do I use to reinstall them? Do I put it between the insert and head as well as valve cover? Thanks! You're awesome!
You did an excellent job but I have replaced heads on these cars also, there is no need, in my opinion , to pull the radiator. Also, have you ever tried leaving the intake attached to the head? I think it makes it easier to do. Not trying to knock your work or video just some suggestions that might make things easier. Keep up the good work!
P.Dub from Fresno on my lady Sonya tablet. .... Wow! I have a 2003 Hyundai Elantra 2.0L engine with the very same situation. I too am in the process of R&R my head gasket, and looking to cut down on taking components off unnecessarily...thanks for the tip..
This has been a great video series, very helpfull, clear and with lot of detail. Although Im doing this job in a Ford Escape 2006, the information may be aplicable to my task. If you have done this job on Ford Escapes in the past just drop me a note or a video if you have it.
Good to hear you liked the video, sound like you got to the thermostat in time other wise you could have been looking at doing the Head Gasket..Thanks for watching. cheers
Greetings: My name is Charles and I have a 2007 Odyssey. When vehicle is cold and in drive with brake applied I get a vibration/shake sound. I looked underneath during such momnent and it sounds like it is near or around crankshaft (passanger/engine side). Not saying it is the crank just the sound is loudest near that side/area. Once engine is warm it goes away, mostly. The sound and rattle goes away when warm. So, could that be bad head gasket? Hope you and yours are doing well. Thanks for your time video or other wise.
Just started watching this series... My guess is leaky exhaust valves not a head gasket. Those 2.0 just slightly overheat, and warp exhaust valves. Did you try a leak down test?
Hey, thanks for the helpful videos. Do you know the valve lash specs for the 2.0L engine? i have a 2007 Elantra head that I'm putting onto a 2005 block (both 2.0L vvt) they match up perfectly as they are the same engine model. Only issue is, I want to check the valve lash on this new head before I start the car up and I don't know the specs (its not on the hood).
Hey can you help me im doing the replacement for the gasket and I wanna know how to find the exact TDC with out using the camshaft I saw that the cover has slme marks that says btdc and then it (ignition timing) do I have to leave on the it or in between btdc and it?
So when u flushed the coolant u said that because the coolant is clean from oil, u don't have to change engine, just the cylinder head. My coolant is brown when flushed. U think it's more serious than a warped cylinder head?
Just means your antifreeze turned acidic. Which happens over time, just need to do a simple flush and replace it with new antifreeze. Oil is thicker than antifreeze and you'd easily be able to tell if it was oil.
My experience with anything with an aluminum head is IF YOU PULL IT off for any reason, take it to a machine shop, have it checked and surfaced BEFORE you put it back on, (unless you like doing the same job twice) also if you have ever run one hot with an aluminum head you might as well pull it and surface it cause the head is going to be warped, this goes for ANY make and model car or truck if it has an aluminum head. (it's not the running hot that warps em by the way it's the cool down after they been that hot) All aluminum heads warp after awhile, I have a civic at 355,000 miles it burned a valve, car had never ran hot, never had a head gasket issue, but I had to naturally pull the head to change the valves, with that many miles on it the head had warped to where they had to shave .018 off the head just from it warping from being un-torqued.
No, you should not tackle a head gasket job even if this video was for the outlander without some good mechanical background. If you get stuck halfway sometimes mechanics wouldnt want to touch it since they dont know how it was before it got all taken apart. I know I wouldnt really want to. GL
This is concerning as an '04 Elantra is my daily driver. Can the thermostat fail with normal temp indication? My temp gauge goes from C to mid properly.
P.Dub from Fresno on my lady Sonya tablet. .... It's not your thermostat that's the problem, it's more likely to be a faulty coolant temperature sensor. Located right next to the thermostat housing. ...
late comment, but the radiators all fail there from heat cycle stress, the coolant leaks and then it overheats. possible the low coolant doesn't allow the thermostat to heat and open.
My mum's elantra had problems with cooling. Turns out the the freeze plugs were fucked and it was leaking coolant everywhere. Not even the hyundai mechanics knew why it was leaking stuff everywhere until one bright spark had the idea to check them.
of course the compression test will read 0 on compression when you have all other spark plug and wires out.. requires other 3 cylinders to be firing in order to get an accurate reading on compression.
Compression test measures the compression of ONE cylinder. The accuracy of that test has nothing to do with having the other three cylinders firing. Have fun turning the engine over with the other three plugs installed. And you certainly do not want the other three cylinders "firing" when you run a compression test.
plz Someone help me ASAP !!!!! i just got a used 02 Elantra didnt even have it but damn 3 weeks and didnt know until now that i blown the head gasket the car was running hot on the freeway and i didnt realize until the last min. by the time i tried see wtf was going on the car shut off when i got off the freeway the lower radiator hose i want to say was leaking very bad i bought some anti freeze it was leaking bad the car reminded of a damn whale shooting water when we were putting in the ant i freeze can i put a 04 elantra engine in this make also the ppl say i need a new engine the timing is gone as well what is your best bet plz help me
If you are strained on time and cant do the work yourself, I would recommend a different engine! You can get good deals on ebay, but check your local junkyard as well. You should be able to put an 04 engine in there but make sure you double check that. GL

So if the coolant is mixing with the oil it would be a head gasket replacement to fix that issue ?
I have a 2007 Hyundai Accent.
Thanks.
Gracias por la ayuda amigo, saludos desde Venezuela yo tengo una kia carens con el mismo motor 2.0
Wheres the link for the compression test buddy?
Hi, Yes its for sure more than just a head gasket..Part 4 should have the answer though ;)
H my name is ewan Martin. Just wondering what tool was that . With the dial. The one u used to check the pressure.
Mityvac professional engine compression testing kit. I have one, great tool.
do you really need to remove the radiator and then air filter to work on the head gasket
why you remove the radiator? you need the block just unplug hoses
81K miles, for the other elantras the thermostat failed around 95-100K miles.
Hey can you help me im doing the replacement for the gasket and I wanna know how to find the exact TDC with out using the camshaft I saw that the cover has slme marks that says btdc and then it (ignition timing) do I have to leave on the it or in between btdc and it?
Is this the same engine as a Honda Accord?
I'm doing head gasket on 02 jeep grand but I found a broke rocker pice arm should we drop a new engine?
Did I not see the a/c condensor over by the radiator also??

I know this might be a no but can i follow this replacement on the 2003 mitsubishi outlander?

i could't find ur 2004 hyundai elantra head gaskit replacement

this method works for a Hyundai Tucson 2009?
Good video
same process for a 2000 Tiburon right?
hallow how you,all my engine oil is getting in my radiator and no water getting in the engine, what is worng
im guessing this is just about the same as a 2000 elantra?
late comment, but the radiators all fail there from heat cycle stress, the coolant leaks and then it overheats. possible the low coolant doesn't allow the thermostat to heat and open.
can u make a video replacing a eclipse 2000+ head gasket
wat about aon a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. You think i can do this alone. Help a girl out
