As a Bears fan, I appreciate that you acknowledge greatness when you see it. From my point of view, Aaron Rodgers is HOF as well. Anyway, Payton from '76-'80 was dominating. I just wish that he didn't play through 2 strikes years in '82 and '87. Frustrating he missed all of those games through no fault of his own. He would be all-time rushing king if not for the 2 strikes.
Thank you for posting this - my favorite game! I love hearing Joe McConnell on the radio while watching the highlights. You have many great other old Bears posts, too... much appreciated!
Thanks for dubbing in the radio broadcast. I remember those from WBBM-AM, they were better than the TV announcers. While watching the games, my friend's dad would turn down the TV volume and listen to the radio. I was at this game, but as a young kid, and I had no idea that he had set the record that day. It was one of those extremely cold windy days and the balls kept blowing off the tee at kickoffs. So not surprising that rushing would have been a key component of the game.
This is awesome! Thank You! I know that true Bears fans greatly prefer to see and hear Bears games with the local Chicago announcers calling the plays.
bad ass! #34 doing what the GOAT does! great job beau bear this is the best/most highlights i have seen of this game yet, well done and ty! if your looking for more game ideas check out the bears vs packers game from Oct 30, 1977, payton had 205 yards matter off act i think they say something about that game in the highlights above.
I read that the Bears offensive coordinator resigned after this game. 275 yards rushing and they only get 10 points winning 10-7. Vikings only score was a blocked punt. Running the ball like that it should have been more than 10 points!!!!
Those who say Krause couldn't tackle didn't watch this game, or their Super Bowl defeats. He wasn't a great tackler because he didn't have the body size for it, but it allowed him to play a great center field. He didn't knock people backwards but could tackle when he needed to.
Payton rushed for 1,852 yards in 1977 in 14 games. The next season the NFL would add 2 more games to the schedule. Just think if Payton could have played in 16 games in 1977. He easily would have amassed 2,000 yards rushing.
Barry Sanders rushed for exactly 2,000yds in 14 games during the 1997-98 season. He began that season, after with first two games, with only 53 total rushing yards. He finished the season, over the following 14 games, with a total of 2,053 rushing yards. Both Payton & Barry were truly inspiring to watch.
...no, I'm serious, I really like that you dubbed Joe McConnel's WBBM play by play over the top of it. I remember as a kid, my Grandpa would often turn down the sound of the TV and listen to Joe & Brad instead. ...even Jack Brickhouse in the early days.
Do you A) have the entire radio broadcast of the 1985 NFC Championship game and B) could you the same thing for that game (post the whole thing, then edit it to selected highlights)? If not, do you know how to go about finding that radio broadcast? Regardless, I want to tell you how wonderful what you're doing is; it really brings back vivid memories!
How can the greatest running back of all time rush for a record 275 yards and the entire team can only come up with 10 points I just don't sound possible haha 2:23
The greatest running back god ever made. RIP, walter.
Yep. Everyone and their mother knew he was getting the ball and he just ran over people. Dude was soooo special.
Even as a lifelong Packers fan, I have to say Payton is the best I ever saw. You go to tackle him, you'd better make sure he stays tackled.

Thanks you for this Walter Payton will always be my greatest Football Player
Me too. Or just a gentleman to emulate in everyway. So smart. He transcended the sport.
Nice job Beau. These games mean so much to me and others. Your efforts are appreciated.

Wow this is incredible. Thank you so much for this treasure. Sweetness my childhood hero!
Brings back great memories! These announcers were great, walter could do everything!
Radio call of Joe McConnell and Brad Palmer on WBBM Newsradio 78 and television on CBS-WBBM Channel 2
Soldier Field looks like painted asphalt. Cheers....
i miss the days watching this man.and the great radio call.just the best.mr explosion himself
i loved JoeMcConnell, my favorite football announcer of all time. he added so much excitement to a game
This is awesome! Thank You! I know that true Bears fans greatly prefer to see and hear Bears games with the local Chicago announcers calling the plays.
He has 40 carries. And only one run over 29 yards. But still got 275 yards total. Wow.
He was the punisher,,,,best ever,, 34,,,
The original goat.
My dad was actually at this game on his birthday
Happy birthday to dad.
I was there too, but as a young kid, and I had no idea that he had set the record that day.
Loved watching this awesome 👌
This is truly great work!
Brad Palmer was a good broadcaster for WFLD Channel 32, and Channel 7 Eyewitness News till his retirement .

Dick Butkus and Walter Payton are my hero's.
But you don't know how to spell your heroes name? lol 😆

Sorry Payton
WBBM Radio: Joe McConnell (PBP), Brad Palmer (C)
The original "Flu Game."
Great memories thanks
Does anyone have the live televised game anywhere?
His legs just never stop and he just lowered his head and punished defenders for every inch.
In our house you grew up thinking “Avellini” was a swear word
It is! Except it's FuckinAvellini! All one word. Least that's how my Dad pronounced it.
He was just out right bad can I say that lol .McMahon came what a relief. He was 46-15 as a starter
...I've often wondered how the Bears would have faired in the mud, had they kicked the FG instead.
olofpalme63 Only thing for sure is mud would be less painful to fall on than that wet, cold turf!
275 yards and you only win 10-7? Nice work Avellini.
He used to just kill the Vikings

Stinky QBs then.
I can't believe Sweetness passed away over 20 years ago.
Paul Krause got as much work that day as Walter Payton

Oj Simpson had 2006 in 14 games in 1973..6.0 yards per carry.. still the greatest season ever for a running back
@@jennifersalva3573 It was 2,003 yards. Not 2,006!
@@millypoo7713 yep I think you are right
@@jennifersalva3573 Payton had 2,121 total yards. Simpson had 2,073. Plus, Payton was blocking on off plays.
The good ol days of pounding the rock
I was there!
Americans possess LOVE and Olympic games gino collora. Love
you
...btw, awesome upload!
olofpalme63 thanks! I’ve been checking yours out to! I like how colorize those classic videos. I’m not so good at that.

This was against the purple people eaters Walter Payton is the Elite Running back and he was sick with the flu
How can the greatest running back of all time rush for a record 275 yards and the entire team can only come up with 10 points I just don't sound possible haha 2:23
that was a aging purple people eaters not as good as the late 60s early 70s version
Walter incredible!! Bob Avalini was pathetic
This record has long been left in the dust and in a much more difficult era to run the football as well
